Important tidbits from this week

How to remove the palera1n jailbreak

palera1n header logo.

We previously showed you how you can jailbreak iOS or iPadOS 15 on checkm8-susceptible devices such as those with A9-A11 chips inside of them with the palera1n jailbreak. But what if you want to remove the jailbreak?

Good question. We respect your decision, and fortunately, iDB has created a step-by-step tutorial to walk you through that simple process.

Dynamic Peninsula

Dynamic Peninsula framed with notch.

We’re all familiar of the now infamous Dynamic Island naming scheme that Apple used to describe the animations surrounding the iPhone 14 Pro & 14 Pro Max’s hole punch camera cutout. But notched iPhones unfortunately didn’t get the same kind of love from the company that made them.

Jailbreakers can now use the new Dynamic Peninsula jailbreak tweak by Elias Limneos to get Dynamic Island-like animations and effects for the notch on iOS 13 and 14.

Get advanced photography options on older jailbroken iPhones on iOS 15

Features of 11Cam15 ported to older iPhones.

Older iPhones such as those susceptible to the checkm8 bootrom exploit have a somewhat antiquated Camera app interface when compared to the likes of newer handsets such as the iPhone 11 and later.

The 11Cam15 jailbreak tweak ports many of those features over to these older devices so that they may feel just as capable as newer handsets offered by Apple at no additional cost to the end user.

You can learn more about 11Cam15 in our full review post.

Enable Quick Notes on unsupported iPads

Quick Notes on an iPad.

Quick Notes Enabler is a new and free jailbreak tweak by iOS developer PoomSmart that enables the Quick Notes feature of iPadOS 15 on unsupported iPads.

With it, users can stop minding Apple’s silly software-based hardware barrier and go about using new features on older hardware, as it’s clearly capable of handling.

You can learn more about the Quick Notes Enabler jailbreak tweak in our full review post.

Get a blurred Settings app

BlurredPreferences blurs the background of the Settings app.

The Settings app looks a heck of a lot nicer with the free BlurredPreferences add-on for jailbroken iOS 15 devices.

With it, both dark and light mode are complemented with aesthetically pleasing blur effects that many users agree should have come stock rather than the plain black or white background.

You can read more about BlurredPreferences and where you can get it from in our full review post.

High profile tweaks add iOS 15 support

Downgrade iOS 15

A lot of jailbreak tweaks that I consider staples for my user experience while jailbroken have started adding support for iOS & iPadOS 15 amid the existence of palera1n for A9-A11 devices and XinaA15 for A12-A-15 devices.

You can learn more about those jailbreak tweaks in our full news post.

iOS & iPadOS 16.1 unsigned

iOS 16 firmware downgrade

After initially releasing iOS & iPadOS 16.1.1 three weeks ago, Apple has finally pulled the plug on iOS & iPadOS 16.1, which makes it impossible to downgrade using ordinary means.

Downgrades are generally used by jailbreakers to install a pwnable firmware, but other reasons to downgrade firmware also exist.

You can learn more about the ramifications of this change in our full news post.
