Some of the best jailbreak tweaks for YouTube on iOS 14

At iDownloadBlog, we make it our mission to enhance jailbreak tweak discovery for our readers. That’s because we know how difficult it can be to find the best jailbreak tweaks to meet the needs of your unique workflow, and we’re dedicated to making this hunt more approachable.

We regularly share what we think are some of the best jailbreak tweaks for specific facets of iOS and/or iPadOS 14, and today, we’ll show you what we believe are some of the best ways to enhance the ever-so-popular YouTube app for iPhone and iPad.

We have so much more that we’d like to say before we get started, but we’ll keep it short so that you can move along. Please subscribe to iDB on YouTube, and then enjoy the curated list we’ve forged out of recent releases for you below!

TYOLED – $1.49

It’s no secret that the YouTube app supports Dark Mode, but it’s much less of a Dark Mode than many users would prefer.

Indeed, the dark gray aesthetic that YouTube offers when Dark Mode is turned on isn’t quite as black as the interfaces of other Dark Mode-supported apps, and YTOLED is a jailbreak tweak that changes that by bringing an OLED-friendly pitch-black aesthetic to YouTube for the first time.

You can learn everything you need to know about YTOLED, including where you can get it from, in our full review post.

YTSystemAppearance – FREE

And while we’re on the topic of bashing YouTube’s less-than-satisfactory Dark Mode support, we should also recommend a free jailbreak tweak dubbed YTSystemAppearance.

Just as the tweak’s name implies, YTSystemAppearance compels the YouTube app to obey iOS’ system Dark Mode setting rather than requiring the user to opt into Dark Mode manually via the YouTube app’s settings. It’s really a no-brainer if you value any sort of consistency with your apps.

You can learn more about YTSystemAppearance in our full review post.

raspberry – FREE

Everyone likes the idea of background video playback in the YouTube app, but not everyone likes the idea of spending $15.99 per month for YouTube Premium to enjoy it.

The raspberry tweak enables this feature for the official YouTube app on jailbroken iPhones without the need to subscribe to YouTube Premium. With it, you can lock your device while watching a YouTube video and the playback resumes in the background.

You can learn everything you need to know about raspberry in our full review post.

Enhancer for YouTube Premium – FREE

People like the idea of getting more for less, so why not more for nothing? Enhancer for YouTube Premium is a free jailbreak tweak that increases the capacity of things you can do when you’re a YouTube Premium subscriber.

Among the many useful things you can do with this tweak are force HD streaming over cellular data, disable the annoying pop-ups at the ends of videos, display a Status Bar overlay when viewing videos in portrait orientation, and disable the related videos overlay, among other things. In fact, there’s such a long list of options provided by Enhancer for YouTube Premium that we can’t list them all here.

You can learn more about Enhancer for YouTube Premium and what it brings to the table in our full review post.

YTClassicVideoQuality – FREE

YouTube has changed the way we interact with video playback quality in the mobile app. Rather than letting us specifically choose between 4K, 1440p, 1080p, 720p, 480p, etc., the app makes us choose an option such as higher picture quality or data saver, which still results in the app choosing our video playback quality for us. Advanced options are available, but they’re purposefully buried.

If you, like me, enjoy having control over your handset’s video playback without big brother making the decisions for you, then YTClassicVideoQuality is the tweak for you. This tweak brings back the classic video playback quality selector so that you can enjoy the playback quality you want to view your video in.

You can learn everything you need to know about YTClassicVideoQuality in our full review post.

NoYTPremium – FREE

YouTube is a bit of a nag when it comes to trying to sway free users to pay for YouTube Premium. It’s expected that YouTube would try to upsell its premium feature at least once in a while, but combined with the existing high number of ads, the user experience declines substantially.

NoYTPremium is a simple and free jailbreak tweak that blocks the YouTube app’s constant upsell pop-ups, which means you won’t be pressured to purchase a YouTube Premium subscription anymore.

You can learn more about NoYTPremium and how it works in our full review post.

CarPlayEnable – FREE

YouTube is one of those apps that Apple doesn’t like to allow access to via CarPlay, but a jailbreak tweak called CarPlayEnable can change that.

Once installed, you can control YouTube from the head unit of your car, assuming it supports CarPlay. This means being able to listen to YouTube audio or viewing video while parked.

You can learn more about CarPlayEnable and why it’s a great upgrade for YouTube users in our full review post.

YTSpeed – FREE

The YouTube app lets viewers change the video playback speed using pre-defined parameters, typically in increments of .25. For example, you could play something at double speed, or half speed, or somewhere in between, but options are somewhat limited.

YTSpeed is a free jailbreak tweak that provides jailbreakers with even more playback speed options. Whether you want to watch videos in hyper-speed or ultra-slow motion, this tweak could be for you.

You can learn more about YTSpeed and how it works in our full review post.

YouAreThere – FREE

After a long time of watching, the YouTube app will try to make sure you’re still there and now just wasting bandwidth while AFK.

YouAreThere is a free jailbreak tweak that blocks these prompts, allowing you to enjoy unhinged playback without any intrusive pop-ups (even after lengthy playback periods).

You can learn everything you need to know about YouAreThere in our full review post.

YTNoHoverCards – FREE

At the end of every YouTube video, the platform tries to suck you into yet another video to watch. These aren’t necessarily a bad thing, as they try to capture your attention with something you might be interested in based on your current video, but they block a lot of the video’s ending frames with nonsense.

You can use a free jailbreak tweak called YTNoHoverCards to put a stop to this. It ensures that you enjoy a non-intrusive video consumption experience without anything hovering over your video playback.

You can learn more about YTNoHoverCards and how it works in our full review post.

YTReExplore – FREE

YouTube is really pushing its new Shorts feature, but not all users appear to be onboard with it.

YTReExplore is a free jailbreak tweak that replaces the Shorts tab in the YouTube app with the older Explore tab, allowing you to view potential interests rather than Shorts when browsing the YouTube platform.

You can learn everything you need to know about YTReExplore in our full review post.

Conclusion

YouTube is one of the most popular apps available for the iOS and iPadOS platforms, and these are just some of the best ways to augment the app for optimal usability. Obviously, we haven’t included the names of any jailbreak tweaks that support video downloading, as this would be against YouTube’s terms of service.
