As a YouTube Premium user, I’m glad that I no longer need to cope with the barrage of endless pop-ups that would attempt to upsell me on an upgraded YouTube experience comprised of support for background playback, offline video downloads, and ad-free viewing.
Having said that, I sympathize for the free YouTube users out there who are nagged time and time again to upgrade to YouTube Premium. While it’s annoying enough to try and watch videos with ad inserts every few seconds, the user experience is even more heavily degraded by those persistent money-grabbing pop-ups being added to the mix.
If you’d rather watch videos in the official YouTube app without being nagged repeatedly to upgrade to YouTube Premium, then a new and free jailbreak tweak dubbed NoYTPremium by iOS developer PoomSmart offers a solution that might satisfy your needs.
Just as the name implies, NoYTPremium simply prevents the official YouTube app from displaying those unwanted upsell pop-ups that attempt to hook you into subscribing to YouTube Premium — even after you’ve already told YouTube “no” a million times before.
It’s worth noting that NoYTPremium doesn’t provide any NoYTPremium features for free, so you’ll still be subjected to targeted ads and lack background playback or offline viewing. On the fortunate side, however, you won’t be asked to upgrade to YouTube Premium while using the official app anymore after installing the tweak.
