Weekly jailbreak news roundup.

This piece will do exactly that, recapping the latest news in the iPhone and iPad hacking and jailbreaking spaces spanning the week of Monday, February 26th to Sunday, March 3rd.

Important stuff from this week

iPadOS 18 could drop support for checkm8 iPads

There is a new rumor going around that checkm8 bootrom exploit-vulnerable iPads may not be able to run iPadOS 18.

If true, then this means iPadOS 17 could be the last jailbreakable firmware by way of the checkm8 hardware-based bootrom exploit that has been a thorn in Apple’s side since iOS 12. The exploit, which can’t be patched with software updates, is present in the iPhone X and older.

You can learn more about what this means in our full news post.

Dopamine updates

Possible TrollStore installation method for iOS 17.0

TrollStore banner image.

iOS developer BomberFish announced this past week that they were working on a way to install TrollStore on iOS & iPadOS 17.0 with a bug that got patched in iOS & iPadOS 17.1.

Currently, this is all theoretical, but if it works, then this would be a huge step forward for people who don’t currently have a way to install TrollStore on a supported firmware version.

Update: It was later learned that this method will not work, so developers will need to find a new method.

watched & Zomigle

Zomigle pair new Apple Watch with older iOS.

You’ve always been able to purchase and use Legizmo to pair newer Apple Watches with iPhones running older iOS firmware, but for those who aren’t jailbroken, or who don’t want to pay for these add-ons, there hasn’t been much of a free alternative to choose from, until now.

Both watched and Zomigle are two free alternatives to Legizmo that are currently entering public beta testing and support watchOS 10.3.1 on iOS firmware ranging from iOS 14.x to 16.x. The watched add-on is intended for jailbroken devices, while the Zomigle add-on is intended for TrollStore on non-jailbroken devices.

You can learn more about these packages in our full news post about them.

SleeperX gets iOS 16 support

SleeperX, one of my favorite jailbreak tweaks for augmenting the alarm functionality of jailbroken iPhones, has been updated to support the latest rootless iOS 16-centric jailbreaks.

SleeperX is great because you can set custom snooze times, block alarms on holidays or special days you set, configure per-alarm volume levels, and much more.

YouTube Fix

There’s a known issue with images not loading in the official YouTube mobile app for iPhone and iPad, which seems to be caused by how those images are being hosted via a domain that many countries block.

Here to help is a new jailbreak tweak called YouTube Fix that mirrors to a different domain that seems to work in those countries, thus fixing the issue with images not loading properly.
