Back in 2020, when the MagSafe charging standard was still quite young and only available on Apple’s latest mobile devices, jailbreak tweak developers were making add-ons for pwned handsets that would enable the MagSafe-specific charging animation on non-MagSafe devices when connecting them to power.
One of those tweaks, known by the name of MagSafe Enabler by iOS developer Tomasz Poliszuk, was a popular add-on that received lots of downloads. But as jailbreaks shifted to the newer rootless dynamic, the developer never updated the tweak to support it. Fortunately, a new jailbreak developer is stepping up to fill those shoes.
Enter MagSafeEnabler by iOS developer Michael Melita, a jailbreak tweak that accomplishes the same goal as Poliszuk’s original tweak, but with full support for modern rootless jailbreaks like Dopamine and palera1n on firmware up to and including iOS 16.
According to a post shared about the project on /r/jailbreak, MagSafeEnabler is intended for jailbroken iOS 16 devices, but may also be compatible with jailbroken iOS 15 devices. Melita, a fan of the original jailbreak tweak, says they made the new MagSafeEnabler because Poliszuk appears to have left the jailbreak community. Nevertheless, Melita wanted this jailbreak tweak to live on.
MagSafeEnabler, just like the original tweak, simply enables the MagSafe charging animation on the Lock Screen when connecting the device in question to a power source. It doesn’t matter if the device is connected to a MagSafe-enabled charger or not; even connecting to a Qi wireless charger or a Lightning cable is enough to invoke the animation.
It’s important to note that MagSafeEnabler doesn’t enable MagSafe capabilities on a non-MagSafe device, nor will it make your device charge any differently (or faster). It’s merely intended to enable Apple’s slick native Magsafe charging animation.
