BePresent, Mood.camera, CoffeeSpace, and other apps to check out this weekend

Welcome to the weekend, ya’ll! It’s time for another edition of our Apps of the Week roundup. This week we have some awesome picks for you including a screen time tracker, a camera app with authentic film filters, and match-making app for entrepreneurs. And as always, we’ve selected a fun game for you to check out.

BePresent: Screen Time Tracker

It’s wild to think that we are so addicted to our phones, that we actually need an app to help stop us from using apps. And not only that, but we are so uninterested in these apps that help us stop using apps, that developers had to build-in gamification and social features to lure us in. So yeah, that’s what BePresent is—a screen time tracker that bills itself as fun and easy to use. You can set up dedicated Present Sessions for things like study sessions or phone-less nights out, and you can even get together with friends for group tech time-outs. Other features include weekly leaderboards, streak-building, customized reminders, and a point system where you can earn real-life rewards for hitting your screen time goals. This is one of those apps that makes you say, “is this real life?” But hey, they’re not wrong. You could end up spending as much as 25 years of your life staring at screens if you don’t ever take steps to limit your usage.

Mood.camera

Speaking of apps, here is another one. Mood.camera is a point-and-shoot camera app that captures natural photos with authentic film character. It uses a custom image processing pipeline to recreate the look and feel of actual film, complete with color emulation, film grain, and other subtle analog characteristics. The app also sets itself apart by not offering any type of live ‘filter previews’ or editing tools, and you can’t upload your own photos to add effects. The minimal approach aims to remove all the fluff you see in other apps, so you can focus on capturing the moment. I love the concept here and I really like the model. You get a free 7-day unrestricted free trial, and after that you’ll have to choose to either pay the full price or do a monthly subscription.

CoffeeSpace: Find a Cofounder

Need even more apps? We have you covered. CoffeeSpace is like Tinder for folks who want to start their own companies. The tag line reads “if you’re an entrepreneur, tinkerer, or explorer who is looking to find a partner to embark on your entrepreneurship journey, join us at CoffeeSpace, and let’s turn those sparks of innovation into something amazing.” True story, in the early 2000s I put an ad on Craigslist looking for a business parter to help materialize an idea I had for a phone-based reminder service. I got dozens of responses, but only one that turned out to be legitimate. I had one meeting with the guy at a Mexican restaurant, and never heard from him again. I am pretty sure he stole my idea and started ReminderCall.com. So anyway, yeah, this…this seems like a much better way to do things.

AeroMayhem PvP: Air Combat Ace

Jets are awesome, and you will never convince me otherwise. They are super fast, fly really high in the sky, and it takes a special kind of person to fly them. It turns out, I am that special person, thanks to AeroMayhem PvP. It’s a multiplayer air combat game that has you fighting in intense dogfights that allow you to showcase your ace pilot skills in the world’s most advanced fighter jets. Features include 4v4 arena-style battles, realistic air combat with authentic maneuvers and weapons systems, immersive environments, and even a career mode. Yeah, I know what I’m doing this weekend. Anyone want to join my Squadron? My call sign is Crash.
