The YouTube X and YTUnShorts jailbreak tweaks by PoomSmart will upgrade your YouTube app

iOS developer PoomSmart is back again this week with another couple of YouTube app improvement jailbreak tweaks, carrying the names of YouTube X and YTUnShorts.

For YouTube users with jailbroken iPhones or iPads, these tweaks are going to be godsends.

The first one, dubbed YouTube X, enhances the app by removing ads and enabling background playback functionality. The second one, YTUnShorts, removes the flurry of Shorts that you’d ordinarily see in your YouTube app’s feed.

While the ad-supported model isn’t necessarily a bad thing, what bugs me is the back-to-back ad bombardment before, during, and in between videos. If ever there was a perfect example of double-dipping, this app certainly has it, and YouTube X offers some refuge.

Also worth noting is the background playback, which allows your playback to keep running even when you leave the YouTube app. It’s perfect for background sound so you can listen to something while you continue doing something else on your iPhone or iPad.

YouTube X aside, the YTUnShorts tweak is another handy add-on. The Shorts feature was long experimental, but it’s quickly taking over the YouTube feed. For people who use YouTube solely as a video consumption platform, these short videos feel more like clutter than content, and this tweak removes them entirely.

Both the YouTube X and YTUnShorts jailbreak tweaks are available for free via PoomSmart’s personal repository via your favorite package manager app and support jailbroken handsets running the latest version of the YouTube app. Both tweaks are also open source on PoomSmart’s GitHub page.
