Twitter Developer Event Confirms iOS 5 Release by October 10th

Twitter has coincidentally scheduled a pair of "Developer Teatimes" for October 10th and October 12th. The meetings will focus heavily on Twitter's integration with iOS 5 — a feature that was announced by Apple at WWDC this past Summer.

Apple has also told its AppleCare division to expect a high influx of iOS 5-related questions on October 10th. Employee vacation blackouts have also been put in place for the 2nd week of October. Do we finally have our iOS 5 release date?

Google+ Goes Public, Hangouts and Other Features Coming to iOS

Is it just me, or does it seem like the 'buzz' around Google+ has quieted down over the last month or so? Now it just reminds me of that toy you begged for in the store as a kid, and then only played with for 10 minutes after you got home.

But maybe that'll change. Maybe it'll find its sweet spot, somewhere between the family and friend oriented Facebook and the here and now news of Twitter. We'll find out in the coming months, as the previously invitation-only service just went public...

Facebook’s Latest iPhone App Update a Twitter Rip-Off?

Facebook's iPhone app has been called out by the guy behind Twitter's iPhone app, after he spotted more than a little similarity between the two apps after a recent update. Facebook version 3.5 has received a bit of a makeover, with the new status compose screen seeing the biggest change – a change that makes it look very familiar with the Twitter compose screen.

As the picture above shows all too well, it would appear that someone at Facebook is a fan of the competition's iPhone app, with the two sporting very similar designs...

What’s On My iDevice? August 2011 Edition

So as usual, I'm a little behind on this last month's What's On My iDevice, but hopefully the wait was worth it.

You guys and gals know how I like to switch it up, and the August edition is no exception. Instead of focusing on jailbreak apps or tweaks, I give you a rundown of 5 essential App Store Apps that should be on every iPhone owner's Home screen.

Inside, you'll find an app that's great for security, the absolute best iPhone Twitter client, a wonderfully designed "diary" app, and one of my absolute favorite iOS games of all time...

As Jeff highlighted in the latest edition of "What's On My iDevice?," TwitkaFly has been updated to version 2.0. If you haven't heard of TwitkaFly, it's a jailbreak tweak for the iPhone and iPad that lets you tweet quickly through a super fast and easy Activator shortcut.

TwitkaFly 2.0 brings a slick redesign of the tweet compose window, and it also adds support for Tweetbot. If you like to tweet from a jailbroken iDevice, TwitkaFly is an essential tool...

New Twitter.com for iPad Design Rolling Out this Week

Folks who prefer browsing Twitter.com with the iPad instead of using a native Twitter client will be happy to hear that the social networking giant is updating the site to be more compatible with Apple's tablet.

Up until now, navigating Twitter's website from the iPad was unpleasant. You had the choice to view the site in desktop mode, or an upscaled mobile view — neither one is very tablet-friendly. But that's all going to change during the next 7 days...

UShare: Copy and Tweet YouTube Links From the Native iOS App [Updated]

Finally! If there was a utility that could do this before, I wasn't aware of it. UShare allows you to copy and tweet your favorite YouTube video URLs from the iOS YouTube app.

Well-known jailbreak developer moeseth submits the utility as part of his TweakWeek run. The popular contest has developers submitting one free tweak a day, for 7 days, and this one in particular is a fine example of the project...

Justin Bieber Uses a Jailbroken iPhone

We don't usually post stuff like this on iDB —and we certainly don't have Bieber fever — but this was too good to pass up. Apparently, Justin Bieber uses a jailbroken iPhone.

As evidenced in one of his tweets, Justin Bieber uses a jailbreak Twitter extension called qTweeter. With over 11 million Twitter followers, we're sure Justin is familiar with the best Twitter clients out there.

Tweetbot for iPhone Adds Push Notifications for All

One of the best Twitter clients for the iPhone, Tweetbot, has finally added push notifications for replies, mentions, direct messages, etc.

Update 1.4.2 to Tweetbot for iPhone adds push notification badges to the app icon, and the app's developers at Tapbots are also claiming that all users should finally be able to fully enable push notifications.

Another Patent Troll Pops Up, Seeks License Deals from Apple and Others

While the Lodsys saga with Apple and its developers drudges on, another company has decided to join in the patent troll party. This time, it's an Indian-based company by the name of Kootol, and this time, they're not just going after the little guys.

FOSSPatents is reporting that Kootol has distributed a press release announcing that it has sent "notices" to a long list of companies (large and small) regarding their use of Kootol's Intellectual Property. The IP in question involves social "feeds" like you'd find in Twitter or Facebook...
