Ask Jeff: Episode 09 – Back in Action

After a brief hiatus, I'm back with Ask Jeff: Episode 09. In this episode I answer tons of questions ranging from data usage monitoring, to Twitter clients, to possible Siri ports.

A lot has changed since Episode 08. iOS 5 was released, iCloud launched, the iPhone 4S launched, and much, much, more.

Was your question answered? There's only one way to find out: head inside and tune in to the latest episode...

IntelliScreenX: The Way Notification Center Should Be

Today we finally got to go hands-on with a near final beta version of IntelliScreenX — the highly anticipated jailbreak app for iOS 5's Notification Center — and let's just cut to the chase, it lives up to the hype, and then some.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is how Notification Center is done. IntelliScreenX makes iOS 5's new pull down menu, a literal center of notifications.

There's Twitter, Facebook, RSS, and email, and it's done in such a way that you can communicate without ever leaving Notification Center; you can even do so from the Lock screen.

Check inside for a full video preview of IntelliScreenX, and you'll see why this upcoming app is reason enough alone to jailbreak your iPhone...

Instatweet Brings Fast Tweeting to iOS 5

If there's one thing we all love, it's Twitter. There's just something about those short little bursts of wisdom that compels us all.

If you're an iPhone user, you're certainly not short on choice when it comes to Twitter apps for your beloved phone, so you don't need another one, right? Well, if it offers something a little different, you just might.

Instatweet does just that by giving users a fast way to send out tweets in iOS 5...

iOS 5 Gives Twitter a Boost as New Signups Skyrocket

In an interview with Mashable's Ben Parr, Twitter CEO Dick Costolo shared some interesting statistics. He said that iOS 5 has caused a massive spike in signups for the social network.

According to Costolo, signups via iOS have tripled since iOS 5 was made available to iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users last Wednesday. Add in the hugely successful iPhone 4S launch on Friday, and you have a lot of people plugging their Twitter credentials right into iOS...

How to Tweet and Update Facebook Using Siri

Apple's unique selling point for the iPhone 4S is Siri, a digital assistant that knows what you mean and how to answer your questions.

For all Siri's polish and ability to take real language and turn it into emails and text messages, there is one glaring omission from its repertoire, and that's the ability to tweet or update your Facebook status.

With Twitter now very much built into the fabric of iOS, it has been a surprise to many that Apple didn't give Siri any hooks into the world of 140 characters and less. But fear not, for those of us that are addicted to Twitter can now send messages using Siri, and it's super easy to set up...

‘Activator’ Update For iOS 5 Brings Native Twitter And Notification Center Actions

No less than a few minutes after I posted about TwitterTask, iDB viewers and readers were on it like white on rice.

I hereby stand corrected; TwitterTask isn't the only way to send out native tweets from anywhere on a jailbroken iOS device.

That's because Ryan Petrich's iOS 5 compatibility update to Activator wasn't just some minor change to make sure it worked on the new firmware; no, it includes quite a few new features; Twitter and Notification Center actions being among them...

TwitterTask: Send Tweets From Anywhere In iOS 5

iOS 5's Twitter integration is nice and everything, but it's not without its shortcomings.

The biggest shortcoming for Twitter integration in iOS, is the inability to send a tweet from anywhere; without an attachment.

As it stands now, you have to perform an action such as sending a picture, in order to send out a tweet in iOS. No longer...

i0n1c Confirms iOS 5 Untether is “Covered”

With iOS 5 scheduled to drop this Wednesday, the question in the back of everyone's mind (at least here at iDB anyways) is when will it be fully jailbroken? A tethered jailbreak is already available for the new software, but it's just not the same.

A tethered jailbreak is inconvenient, it means you have to reconnect your iDevice to your computer after every restart. Luckily it sounds like we won't have to wait long for an untether to hit web, as i0n1c has confirmed it's being handled...

Twitter Can’t Wait for iOS 5 Public Release

The folks at Twitter are just as excited for iOS 5 as we are, with Apple set to unveil the final version of the software to the public alongside a new iPhone on Tuesday.

In iOS 5, Twitter has been integrated at a system level into the OS to give users the ability to share statuses and photos with friends on the popular social network. In a recent interview, Twitter talked about how it expects huge growth and increased popularity from its iOS 5 integration...
