Shazam brings tighter Spotify/Rdio integration, streamlined charts and more

Shazam, a media identification service, on Monday released an update to its iOS application in the App Store.

The enhancements include deeper integration with Spotify and Rdio with the ability to listen to full tracks and rate them with the player, more reliable saving of your Shazams to a dedicated playlist in Spotify or Rdio, consolidated charts and other goodies.

Both the free Shazam 8.3 app for the iPhone and iPad and the $7 Shazam Encore have received these new features in their respective updates.

The popular music-identification service Shazam on Wednesday issued a major update to its iOS client adding richer Spotify integration letting you listen to Spotify songs without leaving Shazam and automatically add Shazamed tracks to a specific playlist, an in-app player allowing you to quickly listen to the Shazam charts, a new Shazam Counts feature which displays how many Shazams each track has and more.

Shazam updated with support for iPhone 6 and 6 Plus

Audio identification service Shazam updated its iOS client today, bringing the app to version 8.1. The change log for the update is very short, but it does include one significant item: the app now officially supports the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.

"Shazam now makes the most of the big, beautiful screens of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, so you can get the full glory of those extra pixels." reads the text, which was posted by the developers in the App Store earlier today. "We get it, size matters."

Shazam updated for iOS 8 with Today widget for tagged music and more

Shazam, a song-matching service that recently passed 100 million active users, on Tuesday released a major update to its free iPhone and iPad application.

Available free of charge in the App Store, the refreshed Shazam 8.0 has been optimized for iOS 8 and introduces a handy Today widget that lists tagged music recognized through the background-listening Auto Shazam feature.

A new Charts page in News Feed lists collates popular tracks other Shazam users have tagged and track lists now have a nicer looking layout.

When Apple unleashes iOS 8 for public consumption come this Fall, music lovers will be invited to take advantage of Siri's new and awesomely seamless Shazam integration which lets you identify songs playing nearby simply by asking "what's playing".

Shazam launches new always-on menu bar app for Mac

Popular audio identification service Shazam launched a new application for the Mac this morning. It lives in the operating system's menu bar, and offers a lot of the same features seen in its iOS counterpart, with a few new tricks.

Because it resides in the menu bar, Shazam for Mac is always-on and constantly running in the background listening for audio to identify. Once it recognizes a track, the app offers quick access to lyrics, song info and downloads...

Shazam for iOS updated with in-app track playback via Rdio

Shazam has updated its free and Encore iOS apps, bringing them both to version 7.7.0. The update brings about a new feature to both clients that allows users to play back recognized songs in-app, courtesy of Rdio.

While users have long been able to do this—play recognized tracks through Rdio—past functionality required them to switch out of Shazam and into Rdio. They can now playback [full] songs without switching apps...

Shazam updated with new results page, Line integration and more

Shazam updated its mobile app this afternoon, bringing the iOS client to version 7.6. The update brings about a handful of improvements for the song ID software, including a new results page and support for LINE messaging.

The new results page makes for a better experience while 'shazaming' TV shows, as you'll now be able to see a full cast list, as well as catch up on story lines and gossip. And you can then share those new results via the LINE app...

Apple reportedly building song-identification feature for iOS, partnering with Shazam

Apple is working on a song-identification feature within its iOS software, in an effort to continue building out its Music offering to combat streaming services and declining iTunes sales, according to Bloomberg.

Apple is said to be partnering with Shazam, a third-party service on the App Store that allows users to press a button and recognize music and media playing around them. On the iPhone and iPad in a future iOS update, users will be able to identify songs and artists without having to download an app, the report says.

Shazam revamps content pages, introduces scrollable lyrics, enhanced Rdio support and more

Friday, music discovery engine Shazam has refreshed its iOS apps with some fine new features, starting with a brand new track page design and a new look and feel for video, album, track reviews, artist bios and other pages.

"Many" (but not all) song lyrics will now scroll in time with the music, a handy feature if you're singing along a song trying to remember the lyrics.

Shazam last December added the ability to listen for songs and television shows in the background, tagging them automatically.

Background listening can negatively impact your battery so you'll be delighted to learn that the new Shazam 7.5 apps are more power friendly "so you don’t need to worry about your battery life while it’s running."

Both the free, ad-supported Shazam and the paid Shazam Encore have been updated with these changes...
