Echofon Twitter client redesigned in iOS 7 update

Those keeping track of major iOS 7 app updates can add another one to the list this morning. The popular Twitter client Echofon has received a major redesign in its 7.0 update.

For the most part, the app acts and runs like its predecessor. But the UI has received a fresh coat of iOS 7-inspired paint with flat blue text and icons, and ample empty white space...

Twitter’s third major redesign to follow shortly after Wednesday’s iOS 7 launch

A lot of iPhone and iPad apps have been updated - or are receiving iOS 7 bug fixes and related updates - ahead of the software's general availability this Wednesday.

And while the micro-blogging service Twitter recently started embedding tweets right into its #music app (along with the ability to reply and re-tweet them), its plans for an iOS 7-focused update have been some time in the making but kept secret, until today.

According to people in the know and some deeply entrenched sources, Twitter is waiting until some time after iOS 7 is out to show off its brand new design, the third major revamp in Twitter's seven-year history...

Twitter puts Twitter into Twitter #music

After updating its official iOS client with the somewhat controversial conversation redesign (hint: blue lines), the micro-blogging service Twitter now turns its attention to its music discovery app, Twitter #music. In a new update issued Friday, Twitter #music now shows tweets along with each track right in your #NowPlaying feed.

"We've put the Twitter into Twitter #music," the company boasted. That's not all, as these tweets are fully actionable, which makes me wonder whether the company will eventually fold the #music app into the Twitter mobile client down the road...

‘Cate’ combines Gmail, Twitter and other services into one unified messaging app

I hate email. Even with innovative apps like Mailbox, I'd rather iMessage or talk with someone on Twitter than email back and forth with them. There's subject lines, headers, signatures, and loads of other useless text—it's just all way too complicated.

I would be willing to reconsider my predisposition, though, if an application like this one ever makes it to market. It's called 'Cate,' and in addition to being gorgeous, it promises to make communication easier with direct Gmail messaging and more...

Shazam previews now play right in Twitter

Apart from bringing out the ability to purchase multiple songs at once through iTunes back in June, the music discovery service Shazam has been pretty quiet in terms of its iPhone and iPad app, releasing only a few maintenance updates. Today's version 6.2.1 update changes that.

The just-refreshed application now features way faster song recognition on older devices and brings integration with Twitter, allowing everyone to play tweeted out Shazam song previews right in Twitter, thanks to Shazam's new Twitter Card.

The micro-blogging service recently released an iOS music discovery app called #music so this Shazam update ups the ante in terms of social music discovery. More tidbits right after the break...

Twitter updates iOS app with controversial conversation redesign

Apart from bolstering up users' security with two-factor authentication, it's been a while since Twitter added any life-changing capability to its iOS and Mac software. That being said, today's update should mark good news for mainstream users who for a long time have been asking for a sensible way to follow long conversations on the micro-blogging service.

As part of the redesigned timeline, there's now a blue line indicating a conversation between people you follow. The conversation flow is even kept intact if you reply to a tweet, but delete the user name of the person you're replying to. Also, the first tweet in the conversation now appears above the most recent reply...

Twitter’s Vine hits 40 million registered users

Twitter's Vine has seen little action over the past few weeks, especially in light of Instagram Video and with a bunch of startups vying for our attention in the short video-sharing space.

That's not saying Vine has peaked - quite the contrary. Although I don't share vines as much as I used to, I find myself firing up the app every other day to enjoy some of the truly stupendous or just downright hilarious clips.

According to the latest Twitter-provided data, the Vine community is now home to some forty million people. Even though that's a respectable figure by any measure, it fails to impress in today's connected world where a service without at least a hundred million users is largely viewed as a failure...

Twitter #music updated with personalized recommendations, new ways of discovering music

Twitter's #music app launched in April as a way to discover music people share on Twitter. The micro-blogging giant updated the software in June with new discovery charts and the addition of genres. Since then, we haven't heard much from Twitter on the music front until today's version 1.3 update which expands on content discovery with new tools while adding the ability to scan your music library to provide personalized recommendations...

Twitter app updated with two-step verification, enhanced photo search and more

Folks using the official Twitter client on iOS will be happy to hear that it has received a significant update this morning, bringing the app to version 5.9. The update includes a handful of improvements, including 2 step authentication and enhanced photo searching.

Twitter first introduced two-step authentication back in May, following a number of widely widely publicized hacks involving celebrity and other high profile accounts. With today's update, Twitter is bringing the new security feature to iOS and Android devices...

How to customize Twitter sharing text from Safari

Would you like to be able to customize the share text that appears when sharing a link from Safari using Twitter? If so, then there's a new jailbreak tweak available that allows you to do just that. SafariSharePatcher is a beta tweak that's not available on the default Cydia repos just yet. It allows you to customize text by means of a handy preference panel located in the settings app. Have a look inside to see what I mean.

Twitterrific gains Today view, better photo viewing, sleeker UI and notable bug fixes

Twitterrific on iOS with its flattened interface and light typeface may have paved the way for the iOS 7 redesign. But Twitterrific is much more than a prettified Twitter client. I typically use Tweetbot for my daily tweeting needs on mobile and desktop, but Twitterrific has always been my second choice.

In an update today, Twitterrific has gained a sidebar item called Today, basically an overview of your most recent favorites, retweets and new followers...

OS X Mavericks: How to use Safari Shared Links

Safari has received a miniature overhaul in OS X Mavericks, and one of the most outstanding new features is Safari Shared Links. This is a features that takes links shared with from people you follow on Twitter or Linkedin, and makes them easily accessible directly within Safari for your consumption. In a world dominated by social networking, Safari Shared Links makes sense, and I find its implementation to be well done. Take a look inside as I guide you step by step through its usage on video...
