Twitter pulls option to receive DMs from everyone

A little over a month ago Twitter rolled out a new setting in the web interface allowing you to choose whether to receive direct messages (DM) from any of your followers. Traditionally, the micro-blogging service has only allowed users who follow each other to send direct messages back and forth to one another.

The change has allowed Twitter users to elect to receive direct messages from any follower, regardless of whether or not they’re following the person back. Unfortunately, the company has now inexplicably removed that option, seemingly without an explanation...

Tweetbot 3 gets swipe actions, lists as timeline, text size independently of iOS 7 Dynamic Type

Tapbots' Tweetbot, the popular iPhone, iPad and Mac client for Twitter, has been updated today on the App Store with a dozen new tweaks that will enhance your productivity.

My favorite improvement has got to be the ability to set in-app typeface independently of my system-wide text size preference, as defined under iOS 7 Settings > General > Text Size.

The enhancements in Tweetbot 3.1, among other tweaks, include the new square avatars, the ability to email conversations and hide profile badgets, quick reply (or other action) via the right-swipe gesture and the return of the 'Last tweet x minutes ago' label and using a list as your timeline.

Twitterrific 5 refreshed with new profile layout and other tweaks

Following up on its mid-October update which brought you the ability to edit your Twitter profile in-app, developer Iconfactory today posted another Twitterrific update bringing a fresh new profile layout and a few other tweaks.

Twitterrific 5.5.3 includes some noticeable performance improvements: it feels really snappy and more responsive than it's ever been - and it wasn't like Twitterrific were a slouch to begin with.

There is also a brand new pull-to-refresh animation and you can now view profile banners by tapping on them. The full breakdown is right below the fold...

Twitter enables inline images/Vines, adds quick reply/retweet/favorite buttons

The micro-blogging service Twitter just refreshed its mobile apps and the web interface with in-stream previews for images and Vine videos so you can see attached media without having to click the hyperlinks like crazy.

It's a marked improvement over Twitter's Media mode that similarily infests your timeline with media previews at the expense of completeness, because all non-media tweets get omitted from Media view.

Additionally, this edition of Twitter for iPhone and iPad includes a set of handy buttons to quickly re-tweet, reply or favorite someone's tweet right from the timeline...

Tweetbot 3 is out with all-new design for iOS 7

Popular Twitter client Tweetbot has finally received its iOS 7 update this afternoon. A week after Tapbots announced that the new app had been sent off to Apple and was awaiting approval from the App Team, Tweetbot 3 has arrived.

As expected, Tweetbot 3 has been completely redesigned from the ground up for iOS 7—as you can see in the screenshot above, it looks nothing like its predecessor. And also as expected, the brand new app comes with a new price tag...

Vine app update adds new ‘Time Travel’ and ‘Sessions’ features

It's been about 10 months since Twitter launched its video-sharing platform experiment known as Vine, and it's still going strong. The app recently crossed the 40 million user mark, and it's currently in the top 20 free apps in the App Store.

And today, it gets even better. Vine posted an update for its iOS client this morning, bringing about two huge new features: Time Travel and Sessions. The former is essentially a time-shift editing tool, and the latter is the ability to save drafts...

Tweetbot for iOS 7 has been submitted to Apple for approval

Tweetbot users who have been waiting for an updated version of the app for iOS 7 can rejoice, as it has been submitted to Apple for approval.

In a blog post published yesterday on the company's website, Tapbots explain they were taken by surprise by iOS 7, and that the app required more than a fresh coat of paint. The upcoming version of Tweetbot for iPhone will be a brand new app that has been reworked from the ground up.

Although the developers don't mention anything about pricing in their blog post, it's safe to assume the new version of Tweetbot for iPhone will be a new app, which means you'll have to pay full price for it...

Twitter mulling standalone Direct Messaging app

Twitter, of all companies, could enter the crowded instant messaging space dominated by WhatsApp, Viber, Apple, Google, Microsoft and Facebook with a standalone direct-messaging app. According to a new report Thursday, the company plans to "significantly update its direct-messaging product".

One of the options being considered is making Twitter's Direct Messages the focus of the rumored standalone app. It wasn't immediately clear how exactly such an app would compete with Viber and WhatsApp, the two leading services in the instant messaging space that tie to your cell phone number...

How to quickly post to Twitter or Facebook in iOS 7

One feature I really miss from iOS 6 is the Share Widget that would let you to add "Tap to Tweet" and "Tap to Post" buttons to Notification Center, allowing you to quickly send a tweet or post to Facebook.

When the first iOS 7 beta versions were released, we all thought the widgets would make their way to the final release, but they didn't. Today, we're going to show you a workaround that allows you to quickly send a tweet or post to Facebook in iOS 7...

But with this new setting, which apparently began rolling out last week, Twitter users can elect to receive direct messages from any follower, regardless of whether or not they're following the person back...
