Remastered PlayStation classic Colin McRae Rally is now available on iOS

Avid iOS gamers may have noticed a promising pattern as a growing number of premium classics make their way into the App Store. Starting with XCOM: Enemy Unknown just a week ago and the upcoming iOS port of the award-winning Limbo game, we now also have the 1999 PlayStation racing classic Colin McRae Rally 2.0 (the second game in the series), which has been remastered for the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad devices as simply Colin McRae Rally...

Warhammer Quest for iOS review: an addictive mix of role playing and strategy

The Warhammer world is intimidating, even for people like me who have been regularly engaged in role-playing games for more than a decade. The game and its many, many pieces is expensive, it takes up a lot of space, and players are stereotypically known for being merciless in their gaming tactics.

In 1995, Games Workshop released the Warhammer Quest board game as a simple dungeon crawl set in the epic Warhammer world. Its popularity was so massive that the game is still considered one of the best ever to be released by Games Workshop.

Only a few weeks ago, Rodeo Games launched an iOS version of Warhammer Quest that is similar to the board game in look and feel, but makes it much easier for you to crawl through dungeon after dungeon for hours on end without having to wait for your friends to show up with the red vines and Mountain Dew…

Contra: Evolution now available in the App Store

Gamers looking to drum up a bit of nostalgia this evening will be happy to hear that the official Contra game is now available in the App Store. The title actually first surfaced in the US App Store at the end of last month, but it was mysteriously and promptly pulled.

Apparently that May release was unintentional, as Konami and Punchbox Studios still had some finishing touches to put on the game. But it's back in the App Store today, for good this time, meaning you can now grab Contra: Evolution for both your iPhone and your iPad...

Plants vs. Zombies 2 to be delayed until ‘later in the summer’

Bad news this afternoon for Plants vs. Zombies fans. Electronic Arts has announced today that the highly anticipated sequel to PopCap's popular lane defense game will not launch next month as it had originally anticipated.

A few weeks ago, PopCap announced that the game, officially titled 'Plants vs. Zombies 2: It's About Time,' would be released on July 18. But it appears EA—its parent company—thinks it needs more time to fine tune things...

Popular Limbo game hitting App Store next week

Developed by Danish team Playdead, Limbo, the popular puzzle action adventure, became a smash hit shortly following its Xbox Live launch in 2010. Soon after, the game was ported to Windows and Mac PCs and Sony's PlayStation 3 console, winning numerous accolades and garnering over a hundred awards.

I've been looking forward to playing Limbo on my iPhone for ages so you can imagine me surprised realizing my prayers have now been answered because Playdead just announced that Limbo will land on the App Store as early as next week. Couldn't be happier!

Defense Technica review: a game where careful strategy works best

The tower defense genre is a tried and true gaming category in the App Store that has had some gems and flops. What makes a TD game stand out in the sea of others like it is unique design and interesting gameplay.

Defense Technica is a TD game that offers players the ability to get a glimpse at the enemy’s plans in order to use resources most effectively and offers a level of challenge that is uncommon in the genre…

Microsoft to port ‘Age of Empires’ and other games to the iPhone

It appears that Microsoft is really warming up to the idea of launching apps on Apple's mobile platform. Last week, it released Office Mobile for the iPhone, and today comes word that the Redmond company is looking to bring a number of games to the handset as well.

Reuters is reporting this afternoon that Microsoft is planning to port several of its Xbox and Windows games to the iPhone this year. It's apparently contracted Japanese gaming firm KLab Inc. to handle the heavy lifting, and its first title will be Age of Empires...

Infinity Blade II is just a buck until end of June

Infinity Blade, an elegiac masterpiece, is still one of the best-looking iPhone and iPad games. So-called system seller, everyone should have this iOS exclusive on their Home screen. If you were mesmerized by how gorgeously smooth Infinity Blade looks (and still shines to this date, courtesy of Unreal engine) but didn't take the plunge due to its high price, don't miss out on this rare discount and pick up Infinity Blade II for just 99 cents, way down from its normal asking price of seven bucks...

Baldur’s Gate yanked from the App Store

Developer Beamdog did a nice job updating Baldur's Gate, BioWare's classic role-playing game set in the Dungeons & Dragons universe, for the Apple platform. Last December, they released Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition on the App Store.

The RPG title contains the original Baldur’s Gate, the Tales From the Sword Coast expansion pack, an additional monk character, a new 'Black Pits' adventure and lost more content.

If you're a fan of the series which has a loyal following, there'll be lots of teeth-gnashing involved in finding that Baldur's Gate games have been pulled from the App Store due to unspecified contractual issues...

Stickets review: an elegantly ruthless puzzle game

If you are getting tired of casual games in the App Store being too casual, you may be turning into a gamer. Gamers play casual games, too. They just like the ones that are impossible to beat. They enjoy the challenge.

Stickets is one of those casual games that you’ll likely find on a gamer’s iPhone. It looks great, has a simple design, and will make your brain hurt after 10 minutes…

Sega discounts Sonic iOS games to just 99 cents

If you're anything like me, you're a heavy gamer who plays tons of games on your iDevice - and on a pretty much regular basis, too (or at least when the time schedule permits).

That's why I'll only make a passing mention of productivity deals like Readdle’s premium Calendars+ going free for a limited time.

If that fell on deaf ears with you, don't despair - iDB has you covered as games maker Sega has slashed all its Sonic games on the App Store to just 99 cents.

The promotion includes the original Sonic The Hedgehog along with the second and fourth installment, as well as Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing and Sonic CD. Jump past the fold for quick details...

Rovio Stars releases Icebreaker: A Viking Voyage

Finnish Angry Birds maker Rovio back in May announced its new publishing label dubbed Rovio Stars that focuses on “the best new games from talented and innovative developers” and files as Rovio’s first foray into including third party titles in its game line-up.

Thursday, Rovio Stars released its inaugural iOS game on the App Store, Icebreaker: A Viking Voyage from UK-based studio Nitrome. The game combines dynamic ice-slicing mechanics with an offbeat sense of humor. More details right after the jump...
