Learn about a quick, built-in way to see the month and year when your Mac was manufactured, as long as it’s running macOS 27 Golden Gate.
Starting with iPhone 15, iPad Air M2, and iPad Pro M4, Apple started showing the battery’s manufacture date right in the Settings app.
But Mac was left behind. So you had to use third-party apps like coconutBattery or estimate your Mac’s age based on its battery’s manufacturing date. If your Mac model was from before 2021, you could also use its serial number to decode the manufacture date and location (like China, Vietnam, etc.). This is no longer possible, as Apple has since switched to a randomized serial numbering system that no longer carries these details.
macOS 27 Golden Gate (which you can easily install on a partition to have two versions of macOS on the same Mac) adds a super easy but non-obvious way to find out when your computer was manufactured. It hides the date in the regulatory certificate section, and we’ll show you how to uncover it, thanks to a tip from pdfu (who also shared earlier how to enable a hidden Siri UI in macOS 27).
However, another user (adrianlondon) soon shared that the date of manufacture shown there isn’t exactly the Mac’s, but rather its logic board. Adrianlondon says:
I bought my MacBook in November 2024, and it says it was manufactured in February 2025!
I had the logic board replaced in April 2025 under warranty, so it’s showing the logic board’s manufactured date, which makes sense, I suppose.
We can conclude that the date of manufacture you see on the regulatory certificate is for the logic board, not the entire unit. But if your computer has never been repaired, this date gives you a pretty close idea of when your Mac was put together (give or take a couple of weeks).
See your Mac’s manufacturing date in macOS 27 settings
- Update your Apple silicon Mac to the latest version of macOS 27 Golden Gate.
- Open System Settings and go to General > About.
- Scroll to the bottom and click the tiny Regulatory Certification link.
- A separate window will appear, with the Date of Manufacture mentioned at the bottom.
My MacBook Air (or rather its logic board) was manufactured in July 2025, and I had purchased it in the first week of September 2025.
My Mac mini was manufactured in December 2022 (I had purchased it in January 2023).
My old M1 MacBook Pro is still on macOS 26 Tahoe, and hence it doesn’t show the date of manufacture when I click the Regulatory Certification link in System Settings.
