Take “a Ride into the Mountains” to discover the joy of casual gaming

You may not be a fan of gaming on your iPhone. Maybe you have Angry Birds and Sonic CD just to give you something to do while waiting for the bus. You may be the kind of person who prefers gaming on a living room console instead.

A Ride into the Mountains may change your mind, or at least give you a reason to add another game to your iPhone. It is simple, fun, and will keep you coming back for more…

Apple rejects Send Me To Heaven game over smartphone recklessness

In today's app rejection news, Apple has shown the door to a free game called Send Me To Heaven by Carrot Pop as it promotes smartphone recklessness. The game taps the iPhone's accelerometer sensor to track how high it flies when thrown up in the air.

Apple's App Store review team rejected the software on the basis of “encouraging behavior that could result in damage to the user’s device,” in spite of an appropriate disclaimer showing up prominently upon launching the app. Indeed, what was Carrot Pop thinking?

Zynga shutting down OMGPOP’s gaming portal website next month

If you've ever played the game 'Draw Something,' then you're familiar with OMGPOP's work. The game studio struck it big last year when its pictionary app hit 20 million downloads in just 5 weeks, inspiring Zynga to buy the company for close to $200 million.

But unfortunately, that's about where OMGPOP's success story ends. Since the acquisition, the studio has been gravely affected by Zynga's financial struggles. Its home office in New York has been closed, and now its popular gaming portal site is shutting down...

Upcoming ‘Neon Shadow’ game features same-device co-op multiplayer

Looking through some of the more popular games in the App Store, most of them appear to feature rather simple gameplay. There's Bad Piggies, Cut the Rope and Candy Crush, all of which can be played with swipes and taps.

On the other hand, there's also a number of iOS developers pushing the envelope. And a good example of that is the upcoming Neon Shadow game—a first person shooter that offers same-device co-op multiplayer mode on the iPad...

Following ‘Dungeons’ cancelation, new evidence suggests Infinity Blade 3 in the works

Following months of silence, Chair co-founder and Creative Director Donald Mustard announced last month that 'Infinity Blades: Dungeons' had been canceled. Rumors about the game had been bouncing around since it debuted onstage at Apple's iPad 3 event.

But it doesn't look like fans are going to have to mourn the title's demise for very long. According to a Senior QA Tester’s LinkedIn profile, Infinity Blade-creator Chair looks to be in the middle of either development or beta testing a sequel to the popular game...

A Brief History of the World review: conquer the world straight from your iOS device

The iPad is great for so many different reasons, but my favorite reason it is that I can have epic board game sessions without having to schedule a get together with friends, or even get out of my pajamas.

Maybe you won’t actually be learning history, but A Brief History of the World is an engaging and challenging game of domination over the empires of the world. No set up required. You don’t even need another person to play with…

In celebration of the series’ fourth anniversary, Minigore 2: Zombies goes free

I reviewed the original Minigore for iPhone over at Geek.com three and a half years ago. Developed by the Finnish developer Mountain Sheep and put forth by the red hot UK publisher Chillingo, this dual-stick survival shooter with furries won me over with its rich visuals (especially with objects skewing slightly in 3D as they come in and out of the screen), unapologetic shooting and unsettling fantasy environments that include strange woods, mysterious mushroom and much more.

Four years and countless updates later, the magic is still alive. In fact, Minigore has kept up pace with technology and now looks just as cutting-edge on the latest hardware as it did back in 2009 on the iPhone  3GS. If you passed on the game, you can now download Minigore 2: Zombies free for a limited time, part of its fourth anniversary celebration...

Here’s Asphalt 8: Airborne gameplay footage

Mid-June, French games maker Gameloft released first screenshots depicting the upcoming eight installment in the Asphalt racing franchise, Asphalt 8: Airborne. The high-quality game is coming to iOS and Android later this summer, priced at just 99 cents.

Earlier this week, the prolific publisher posted a new teaser trailer, along with a dev diary video from earlier offering a behind-the-scenes look at the making of Asphalt 8, including interesting looking gameplay footage. I've included both videos for your viewing pleasure just after the break...

Play this now – Prince of Persia: The Shadow and the Flame

Montreuil, France-headquartered games publisher Ubisoft last Thursday released Prince of Persia: The Shadow and the Flame, its highly-anticipated reboot of the award-winning Prince of Persia game franchise.

The new iPhone, iPad and iPod touch game has already scored some raving reviews from the specialized press and is highly recommended to gamers who are in the market for an action adventure with console-grade graphics, interesting storyline and challenging puzzles.

It should be an impulse purchase for fans of the Prince of Persia franchise like myself. Your download link and launch trailer are right after the break...

Sky Gamblers is a popular flight simulation series of arcade games that puts you in the cockpit of a fighter plane as you take down enemies in a variety of missions. It is best known for being a Mac based game, but the game’s creators have decided to launch an iOS version in tandem with the desktop app.

Classic zombie board game Chainsaw Warrior coming to iOS soon

Chainsaw Warrior, a one-player zombie board game published way back in 1987 by Games Workshop (best known in the US for the Warhammer 40,000 and Blood Bowl franchises), will be making the leap to iOS later this year, the British publisher announced.

Created by Auroch Digital, an indie development studio based in UK's Bristol Games Hub, the game is set in the near future: the year is 2032 and you must defend the mankind from a zombie apocalypse which has ensued after a dimensional rift opened up in a New York slum...
