Action RPG Battleheart Legacy hits the App Store

Role-playing games (RPG) are tremendously popular in the App Store and even though I generally dislike wasting my time playing demanding and too complex titles on a tiny smartphone screen, I'll be taking this one for a spin.

Yes, developer Mika Mobile has finally released its long-expected spiritual successor to 2011's hit mobile RPG Battleheart. After nearly two years of development, the iPhone/iPad game is now available in exchange for $4.99.

The re-imagined Legacy takes the gameplay from the original into bold new directions. The game takes place in the exquisitely rendered 3D fantasy world and has you battling hordes of enemies as a powerful wizard, a notorious rogue or some of the other available heroes like a noble knight or a savage barbarian, each with its own set of skills and items.

You'll encounter quirky characters while discovering the stories of a troubled realm along the way, all without having to spend hours just managing your heroes. Sounds tempting? Read on for the full reveal...

Real Racing 3 gains Le Mans Prototypes, night racing, split-screen multiplayer and more

I don't think people give Electronic Arts and Firemonkeys the credit they deserve for relentlessly updating free-to-play Real Racing 3, one of the finest racing titles available in the App Store.

Following its February 2013 debut, the freemium game has thus far received at least a dozen content updates, each of which is a winner in its own right. For example, in mid-April it's brought us open-wheel vehicles and other treats.

Today's 'Le Mans' update puts you behind the wheel of the Le Mans Prototypes - the ultimate endurance racing cars. It also includes the eagerly-awaited night racing mode on the classic Circuit des 24 Heures du Mans, the ability to link up to four devices via Bluetooth for an immersive split-screen multiplayer and much more...

Spotology review: simple, but addicting

I’m oftentimes surprised at how much time I spend on a single game on any given day. I know a game is going to be good when I go back to it again and again, even after I’ve finished testing it.

Spotology is one of those simple games that I first thought was good enough for a review, but a week after getting it, realized that I can’t stop playing it. We’ve got a game review of Spotology for your enjoyment below…

Codemasters publishes new official F1 racing game for iPhone and iPad, F1 Race Stars

Games maker Codemasters has released a new and officially licensed Formula 1 game into the App Store.

F1 Race Stars, now available as a free-to-play download for the iPhone and iPad, includes all the cars, teams and drivers from the 2013 FIA Formula One World Championship racing across over 40 tracks from 15 F1 Grand Prix locations across the world.

But unlike other F1 games, this one's more of an arcade title than a true simulation. You can race against AI-driven opponents or against your friends, see how you rank on the global Game Center leaderboards, collect various power-us, powerslide around corners, hit jumps and more.

Speaking of jumps, hit the jump for the gameplay trailer and more information...

The game is of the 2D side-scrolling variety, and allows X-Men fans to participate in the 'Days of Future Past' story arc for the first time. It's combat-focused, fast-based, and looks great thanks to Glitchsoft's proprietary 'Helios Game Engine' tech...

Thomas Was Alone review: making friends in a pixelated existence

It’s interesting to see trends unfold right before your eyes. No, minimalist platform games are not new. However, their popularity has grown significantly in the past few months. The games are oftentimes thought provoking while offering a decent bit of fun.

Thomas Was Alone is a fascinating platformer that uses a minimalistic design but combines it with the complex narrative of a group of coding errors that have a mind of their own. Check out our game review of Thomas Was Alone below…

Exploratory action adventure Globosome: Path of the Swarm hits iOS

Exploratory platformers seem to be all the rage in the App Store. In the past few weeks alone, several notable platformers and action adventures have been released for the iPhone and iPod, including awesome triple-A games such as Leo's Fortune, Thomas Was Alone, Sometimes You Die, Monument Valley and David, to mention a few.

If you're a sucker for the genre as yours truly, you'll want to put Globosome: Path of the Swarm on your wish list.

Released today for the iPhone and iPad and costing $2.99, this great-looking title by independent German developer Navel has you playing as a dark little dot which can replicate into a swarm by feeding on its natural environment. The twist: turning into the swarm is necessary to accomplish tasks and puzzles that would be otherwise impossible alone...

Apple.com promoting new version of Asphalt 8: Airborne coming, but why?

Apple rarely, if ever at all, advertises other people's software on its front page, so imagine our surprise after noticing a line at the bottom of Apple.com saying that a "new version of Asphalt 8: Airborne is coming to the App Store this summer". Yup, just like that.

The message seems to have first appeared on the Apple homepage nearly a month ago on Sunday, April 27, 2014.

I know what you must be thinking, but no - this game has not been featured in Apple's iPhone 5s 'Powerful' television commercial in the United States - though you could be partially right because localized versions of the ad that Apple is airing in other countries do feature Asphalt 8...

Gameloft posts new screenshots of Modern Combat 5: Blackout

It’s been nearly a year since we first saw a preview of Gameloft’s Modern Combat 5, and the game has yet to see a release date. In fact, we’ve heard almost nothing about the title in the past 11 months, leading some folks to believe that the project had either been shelved or canceled.

But that has certainly changed in the last few weeks. In late April, Gameloft offered up new details about the game, and a week later it broke down its new unified progression system. And today, it posted a pair of beautiful new screenshots showing Modern Combat 5 in action...

Apple pulls popular ‘Weed Firm’ game from the App Store

Apple has pulled the popular, and somewhat controversial, game 'Weed Firm' from the App Store this week. The game landed on iOS just a few weeks ago, and had climbed its way to the top of the App Store's 'Top Free' list in several countries.

For those unfamiliar with the game, the game centers around a marijuana business, started by an expelled botany student who inherits a growing operation and expands it. Players control all aspects of the business, including selling cannabis...
