Bricks – Arcade Game review: a brick breaking game with a twist

The brick-breaking genre is decades old. Breakout was one of Atari’s early runaway hits in the mid 1970s. It spawned generations of clones and homages (Did you know that, if you type “Atari Breakout” into a Google image search, you can play the game with the image results?).

Bricks is a version of the brick-breaking genre that bucks tradition and leaves you with a completely new love of the arcade classic. Your iPhone is the paddle and the wall surrounds you in this new take on an old favorite. We’ve got a review of Bricks – Arcade Game for you below…

Both games, including all downloadable packs for each, are available starting today through multiple outlets, including the Steam platform, Aspyr’s online store GameAgent.com and other participating online Mac game retailers.

At the time of this writing, neither game was available through the Mac App Store. Aspyr is the same company which brought you the Mac port of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare back in 2008 as the first title in the series...

Japanese games maker Sega has confirmed that a brand new Super Monkey Ball is set to bounce onto iOS this summer.

You must basically rescue his playable monkey friends as you bounce, slide and rebound your way through jungles, volcanoes and glaciers, with game mechanics borrowing heavily from the classic mechanical game, Pachinko.

Game Stew launches another RPG mash-up with Devil Shard

The team at Game Stew Studios is best known for their charming retro role-playing game (RPG) Tower of Fortune. In that mix between adventure and chance, players would battle against the forces of evil to try to reach the top of the terrifying tower. The sequel proved to be just as adorable and twice as hard.

Devil Shard is the most recent release from the mash-up loving team. This time, instead of mixing RPG with slot machines, players fight enemies using a match-three mechanic. Talk about identity crisis…

Flappy Bird creator teases his next iOS game

We haven't heard much from Flappy Bird creator Dong Nguyen since he removed his smash-hit game Flappy Bird from the App Store just over three months ago. After tweeting that the popularity of the game was ruining his life, the Vietnamese developer went quiet for over a month. Since that time, the App Store has been bombarded with dozens of copycat games such as Flappy Bird: New Season.

Then, just yesterday, Nguyen confirmed that Flappy Bird will be returning to the App Store in August with less addictive gameplay and a new multiplayer mode. Building upon that news, the indie game maker has now announced that he is also working on a brand new game that will involve a character jumping from building to building. He gave a sneak peek of what the game looks like in a recent tweet…

Flappy Bird: New Season – an unapologetic clone as good as the original

If you can't wait for the official return of Flappy Bird in the App Store, then here is a clone that will surely keep you tapping your iPhone screen frenetically until this Summer. Called Flappy Bird: New Season, this clone is as close as the original as it gets.

As a matter of fact, it is so close, that even the developer's name is the same as the original Flappy Bird's Dong Nguyen. But don't be fooled, this is still a clone, even though some of the raving reviews peg the game as the "closest clone to the original version."

Minimalist indie puzzle platformer Thomas Was Alone hits iPad

Another noteworthy platformer has arrived in the App Store. Named Thomas Was Alone, it's an iPad version of the beautifully done console original, now ported to iOS by Surgeon Simulator developer Bossa Studios.

In Thomas Was Alone, you're a curious rectangle - basically an AI sentient trapped in the computer mainframe - who must unravel the mysteries of his existence. It's a minimalist platformer game with some puzzle elements and a unique twist to it. There's a certain eerie vibe to it which reminds us a little of the wonderful Monument Valley [$3.99 Universal, Info].

With a hundred levels to keep you occupied, engaging atmosphere, stylish presentation and unique mechanics, Thomas Was Alone is a no brainer for fans of the genre.

The game is available now in the App Store...

Flappy Bird creator bringing game back in August with multiplayer

Vietnam-born Flappy Bird creator Dong Nguyen previously said he would be bringing the game back on the App Store.

For those totally oblivious to the phenomenon which has taken the gaming world by storm, Nguyen has willfully removed the game from the App Store back in February because it became "an addictive product", even though it was earning him $50,000 in daily ad revenue on average.

Having just been live from the New York Stock Exchange on CNBC's Closing Bell, Nguyen once again confirmed that the game will make a return to the App Store soon. This time around, he was willing to share some specifics and confirmed that Flappy Bird will include an all-new multiplayer mode...
