Sopio, Icetris, FontLab, and more apps to check out this weekend

With Appleā€™s big announcement for a March 9 special event, it is difficult to stay focused on apps and games. However, we still need to keep you guys up-to-date with new content coming out each week.

Soon, these lists will include updates to your favorites titles with Apple Watch compatibility. But until then, we will continue to bring you information on new apps and games to check out this weekend.

Sopio

Sopio

Sopio is a card game of puns and points. Players lay down cards with funny quips and stick drawn illustrations. It comes off of the heals of such popular card games as ā€œFlux.ā€ This iOS version allows you to play the game solo and just read the funny cards, or compete against computer-generated opponents that are compatible with your skill level. You earn points by playing plus cards and lose points when your opponent plays a negative card on you. There are also two booster packs that can be added through an in-app purchase. This game is available for $1.99.

iSelfie Two

So, just to be clear, if you are not actually holding your camera (or iPhone, or whatever), it is not technically a ā€œselfie.ā€ It is simply a picture. But, semantics aside, this app makes it possible for you to connect two iPhones so that one can be used as a remote shutter control. Both cameras will show a viewfinder preview so you can see what the camera sees. The controls allow you to take pictures or video and adjust the AE/AF and white balance. Plus, you can set a timer and take multiple pictures, all at a remote distance from the iPhone that is taking the snapshot. This app is available for free.

Icetris

Icetris

In this retro style pixel party, players must tap receptacles at the bottom of the screen to match the objects falling from the sky. For example, fish need fishbowls, spiders need webs, and soap needs a bathtub. The ice buckets are used to catch the falling ice. Objects fall from three columns above and it is your job to tap the receptacle to match the object. If you are too slow, the game is over. It is pretty simple. There are six levels to unlock. Each has a different theme (like Valentineā€™s Day or Christmas). To unlock a level, you have to earn a certain number of points. This game is available for free.

FontLab

FontLab

Are you tired of the same old Helvetica Neue on all of your text messages? Would you rather write with more style? Would you like to be free of the restrictions and have a choice in what type of font you use to write with? This app makes it possible for you to add a different font to whatever you type. There are 10 different fonts to choose from. Simply add the third-party keyboard to your system and select the font that fits you best. This app is available for $1.99.

Echo Dawn

Echo Dawn

Hit the road with your adventuring party in this traditional RPG style game. Select members for your party and customize their abilities. You can choose to focus on three out of six skills to train your characters in, so your ninja may be slow, but hits hard. Or, you may want to make him speedy and agile, but somewhat weak. There are seven different classes with four different abilities and hundreds of different items. As you travel along on your journey, you will come across dozens of enemies. Train your warriors to be quick to the draw, or strong on the defense. It is up to you. This game is available for $3.99.

WakeMeUpNear

WakeMeUpNear

Have you ever missed a stop on your bus ride because you fell asleep? Or forgot to get off at your stop on the subway because you were so engrossed in your book? Well, this utility app will notify you when you are approaching your stop. You can set your home location or the station you are supposed to stop at. You can also set any destination so you donā€™t forget to get off the bus on your way to a location either. You can customize the alerts if you are a heavy sleeper, or change the distance before receiving the alert if you take a while gathering your belongings. This app is available for free.

Striker Arena

Striker Arena

Have you ever wondered what it would be like if Vikings, Gladiators, or Samurai warriors played soccer? Well, you donā€™t have to wonder any longer (is this something people think about). This game pits warriors against fighters in team-up battles across three epic arenas. Players control a Striker team and play a good old-fashioned game of soccer. Get the ball into the vortex to score a goal. Grab special abilities on the field to tackle, punch, or even blast players on the opposing team. There are no fouls in this game, so let your fists fly. This game is available for $2.99.
