How to add the date and free RAM info to your Status Bar

How many times have you asked yourself "how can I add today's date as well as free RAM info in my Status Bar?" If you're anything like me, it would be about zero time. But let's me honest, we aren't all looking for the exact same things, and chances are you may be looking for such a tweak.

If that is the case, then let me introduce you to StatusModifier, a jailbreak tweak by Firemoon777 that was released earlier last month on Cydia. The tweak, as the name suggests, lets you modify parts of your Status Bar by hiding items, but also by letting you add the date and free RAM info...

Apps of the week: Peek Calendar, Dungeon Keeper, and more

Well, after weeks of complaining about dry skies, my hometown finally got its first wet day. Unfortunately, the rain did not last more than a few hours, but something is better than nothing. I immediately took a shower. I probably used up any water that may have collected during the short rainfall. Oh, well.

This week, lots of cool apps and games made their way into the App Store. If you need a new calendar, love John Woo, or want to follow the winter Olympics, we’ve got a list you might find to be worth a read…

NFL deploys iBeacons in Times Square, MetLife Stadium for Super Bowl

Apple's iBeacon technology seems to be catching on rather quickly. Just introduced at WWDC a little over 6 months ago, it's already being deployed in grocery and retail stores, several Major League Baseball ballparks, and now apparently NFL stadiums as well.

The New York Times is reporting that the National Football League has installed iBeacons at MetLife Stadium, which is hosting the Super Bowl on Sunday, as well as Times Square. They'll be used to help folks find their way around town, and then to the big game...

How to add the Now Playing icon back to the status bar in iOS 7

When Apple dropped iOS 7, some of you may have noticed that the now-playing indicator that resided in the status bar was no longer a thing. It appears to have been removed per Apple's sweeping design changes for iOS 7.

NowPlayingStatusBar is a jailbreak tweak that adds the now-playing indicator back to iOS' status bar. Along with the triangular now-playing indicator comes additional option—each of which can be configured by means of the tweak's settings. Have a look at our video inside for a deeper look.

Health & fitness tracking features said to headline iOS 8

Over the past year or so, Apple has been hiring a number of doctors and other experts in the medical field to work on an unknown project. And up until now, we've known little about its plans outside of recurring iWatch speculation.

But a new report out this afternoon may help shed some light on what it's been working on. Apparently health and fitness tracking are going to be headlining features of iOS 8, and they're expected to play well with Apple's smartwatch...

PassTime lets you customize the passcode requirement duration (and it’s really awesome)

If you've been listening to either Let's Talk Jailbreak or Let's Talk iOS, you've probably heard Cody and I rant about the fact that you can't use Touch ID for iTunes purchases without either using Touch ID or a passcode to unlock your device.

Since I first got my iPhone 5s, this has been a big annoyance. I do like the simplicity and security that Touch ID brings to my purchases on iTunes or in the App Store, but I do not want to use Touch ID or even a passcode to unlock my device. As it turns out, Apple won't let you do one without the other.

Enters PassTime, a new jailbreak tweak by Julian Weiss that lets you set custom passcode or Touch ID unlock requirement durations, effectively solving my biggest Touch ID pet peeve...

Lenovo CEO: Motorola purchase part of mission to surpass Samsung, Apple

When news hit earlier this week that Google had agreed to sell its Motorola Mobility unit to Lenovo for $2.9 billion, it surprised a lot of people. Not only was the sale price some $10 billion below what Google paid for Motorola 3 years ago, but Lenovo? Where'd that come from?

According to a recent Fortune interview with Lenovo CEO Yuanqing Yan, that was the plan all along. Yan says that his company has been eyeing Motorola since before Google came along , and it has major plans for it. Lenovo wants to become the #1 smartphone-maker in the world...

Tim Cook visits Irish government to talk tax evasion

Apple CEO Tim Cook flew to Ireland today to meet with the country's government officials and tour the company's corporate office. Although the meeting agenda was shrouded in secrecy, media reported Cook and the head of government discussed tax loopholes and a change in the Irish laws that should prevent firms like Apple and Google to avoid declaring tax residency in either the U.S. or Ireland.

A loophole in Ireland's corporate tax laws has enabled many of the world's top corporations to operate as virtually stateless firms, ungoverned by any nation’s taxing authority...
