Apple and Others Gearing Up to Bring Curved Glass to Devices Next Year

Flat glass panels are so 2011! That's at least what smartphone manufacturers are thinking, according to this article from DigiTimes. It appears that the new trend among smartphone makers is going to be curved glass.

As usual, Apple is ahead of its game as the company reportedly invested in glass-cutting machines earlier this year to equip its reluctant assemblers to invest in this new and unproven technology...

Only One iPhone This Year

For the last few months, a rumor that Apple would release two devices this year went around, and to be honest, it seemed to make lots of sense. Apple would release a full-featured iPhone, selling it at the normal full price. The company would also release a watered down version of the iPhone 4 aimed at taking a stab at the prepaid market.

I thought this to be highly believable. If you've ever been to Asia or Africa (I have), you'll know that the prepaid market there is gigantic. This is an untapped market for Apple.

So the rumor mill went crazy on this rumor, and everyone, at some point or the other, seemed to agree we'd see two iPhones this year. John Paczkowski of AllThingsD now thinks otherwise...

Apple to Hold October 4th Event on Its Own Campus

AllThingsD has come back with more news on Apple's upcoming October 4th media event. In the past, Apple has always held its big events in San Francisco at venues like the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts.

This year is proving to be different. Apple will be holding its iPhone announcement at its own headquarters...

Twitter Developer Event Confirms iOS 5 Release by October 10th

Twitter has coincidentally scheduled a pair of "Developer Teatimes" for October 10th and October 12th. The meetings will focus heavily on Twitter's integration with iOS 5 — a feature that was announced by Apple at WWDC this past Summer.

Apple has also told its AppleCare division to expect a high influx of iOS 5-related questions on October 10th. Employee vacation blackouts have also been put in place for the 2nd week of October. Do we finally have our iOS 5 release date?

Here’s What the iPhone 4S Could Look Like

Between all the reports and case leaks we've seen over the last several months, we have a pretty good idea of what the iPhone 5 looks like. The tear drop design, with the capacitive home button, has been documented by several sources.

But with more and more rumors pointing to the Cupertino company only unveiling one handset this Fall, the iPhone 4S, a lot of folks are wondering what to expect. As usual, graphic design artists have used their skills to help us predict the future...

Apple Preparing for iPhone Launch, Denying Employees Vacations for 2nd Week of October

Apple has started denying vacation requests from employees for the 2nd week of October, indicating that the company expects a high influx of customers during that time.

Rumors have suggested that the next iPhone launch will take place in the 2nd week of October alongside the public launch of iOS 5 and iCloud. Apple is expected to hold its next media event on October 4th to announce its new products for the holiday season...

Otterbox Responds to iPhone 4S Case Leak, Denies Knowing Anything

A couple of days ago we showed you leaked iPhone 4S cases from popular case maker Otterbox. The cases and packaging were leaked by Chronic (original founder of the Chronic Dev Team).

Apple Working With Quad-Core Processors for Next-Generation iDevices?

Even with all of the confusion surrounding Apple's iPhone announcement this year, there are two things we know for certain. The device is going to include a faster processor (presumably the A5 found in the iPad 2), and a better camera.

While we don't know much about the camera just yet, we do have a pretty good idea of what the A5 is capable of. It wouldn't surprise me to see Apple tout the next iPhone as the fastest in the industry. And they're already working on making it faster....

Defect in iPhone 5 Touch Panels Could Delay Launch

DigiTech is reporting today that iPhone 5 touch panel supplier Wintek might be encountering issues with the production of the panels, affecting initial shipment targets scheduled for October.

When asked about the issue, Wintek replied that all of its products are being "delivered on schedule."

Did the Target App Just Leak the iOS 5 Speech-to-Text Dictation Feature?

At Apple's WWDC event back in June, Scott Forstall promised us that we would see a public release of iOS 5 "this Fall." And seeing as how Fall officially starts tomorrow, we can't be too far away from an announcement.

While we've got a pretty good idea of what to expect from the new software, there still are a couple of unknowns. For example, we know Apple is working on a secret voice-to-text feature, but we haven't seen it in action. Enter the new Target app...

Will the Next Gen iPhone Launch on October 13th?

With Apple expected to hold its next iPhone announcement on October 4th, we're all wondering when we'll be able to get our hands on the iPhone 5/iPhone 4S. We can look back at history and guess, but 2011 has proved to be an entirely different roadmap for Apple. Anything could happen.

The first real hint at the next generation iPhone release date may have just been dropped, thanks to AT&T's early upgrade policy...

The ‘iPhone 4S’ is Real, And This New OtterBox Case Proves It

Folks, it looks like the 'iPhone 4s' naming designation is indeed the real deal. Just a few minutes ago, Chronic posted an image of new OtterBox packaging that includes the iPhone 4S naming designation printed on the box.

Given Chronic's (real name: Will Strafach) history of posting accurate rumors, we advise you all to start getting used to calling the next iPhone an iPhone 4S...
