Here’s What iOS 5’s Initial Setup Looks Like on the iPad 2 and iPhone 4

Sure, the iPhone has been receiving the most press regarding iOS 5, but some of Apple's other devices stand to benefit greatly from the update as well.

I've had the privilege of being able to update both my iPhone 4 and iPad 2 with the latest and greatest mobile operating system, and frankly, it rocks.

As you likely are already well aware of, Apple has adopted a well received PC Free mantra for iOS 5, and that makes setting up a new device a relatively painless affair.

It's so nice to see your device welcome you, instead of staring blankly at that ugly "connect to iTunes" message when turning on your device for the first time.

Check out the following video walkthroughs of both the iPad 2 and iPhone 4 in iOS 5 initial setup action...

Strange iPhone Android Knock Offs for Sale at Sears [Updated]

If Apple's litigation team thinks they have a pretty good case against Samsung for violating trade dress, wait until they get wind of this new iPhone-imitating Android device.

While blatant iPhone rip-offs certainly aren't anything new, the fact that a major U.S. retail chain like Sears is selling them is kind of surprising. Even though the device touts some big features, iDB has a pool going on just how long this device remains available...

Retina Display iPad Referenced in iOS 5 SDK

After doing some sleuthing in the iOS 5 beta SDK, the folks at 9to5Mac have discovered graphics for the next generation iPad that are 2X the size of the iPad's current, 1024 x 768 resolution. These graphics are capable of fulfilling the requirement for Apple's 'Retina Display' that is currently used on the iPhone 4 and fourth generation iPod touch.

It was originally dismissed when 2X iPad graphics were discovered in the iOS 4 SDK, but 9to5Mac believes that this Retina Display-worthy resolution references the iPad 3's screen.

Unlocked iPhone 4 Now Available in Apple Online Store

We reported a recent rumor that Apple was going to start selling factory unlocked versions of the iPhone 4 in its U.S. retail stores this Wednesday, and that rumor has already come true.

Already, both the 16GB and 32GB GSM versions of the iPhone 4 are available as unlocked devices on Apple's online store. Sources still confirm that the devices will hit retail locations across the country tomorrow.

Unlocked iPhones Headed to U.S. Apple Stores This Week?

Apple could start selling unlocked iPhones in its retail stores, starting this Wednesday. According to famed jailbreak developer, Chronic, Apple retail is gearing up to offer factory unlocked iPhones in U.S. locations. If Chronic's sources are correct, travelers and SIM-swappers should be very happy with this news.

This would be the first time that Apple offered factory unlocked iPhones in the U.S. Customers in countries like Canada and Hong Kong have already been able to purchase carrier-unlocked iPhones.

Two iPhones Going Into Space to Help Conduct Research

As if the iPhone 4 needed any more publicity, the device is about to get some intergalactic marketing. Cult of Mac is reporting that a pair of iPhone 4s running research software are headed for the International Space Station next month.

The 2 devices are set to launch into the stratosphere on July 8, and will be running SpaceLab software. The iOS app will help the ISS crew determine their relative position in space as well as aid in several experiments. Want to get hands on with the app?

Gevey SIM Will Unlock iPhone 4 on iOS 5

Following the news that RedSn0w will jailbreak iOS 5, an unlock solution for the iPhone 4 on iOS 5 has also been uncovered. The Gevey SIM is a TurboSIM-like piggy back SIM card that will unlock iPhone 4 basebands.

On iOS 5, it appears that the Gevey SIM will still unlock the iPhone 4. Be warned: the Gevey SIM is technically illegal, so we do not recommend this method for unlocking the iPhone 4 on iOS 5.

Wal-Mart Offers iPhone 4 Priced at Only $147

The mega-retail chain, Wal-Mart, is currently offering Apple's iPhone 4 for a reduced price of $147. The 16GB iPhone 4 is originally priced at $197, but Wal-Mart's promotion offers the device in white and black at a $50 discount.

This sale goes through June 30, and requires an accompanying contract with either AT&T or Verizon.

Do You Know About Your iPhone’s Radiation?

While your iPhone may be way ahead of rival devices in terms of technical specifications and software, it's severely trailing behind others when it comes to radiation. A study by the Environmental Working Group found that Apple's popular smartphone only gives off an "average" amount of radiation, whereas Motorola handsets come with significantly more.

This CNN report comes after the World Health Organization announced on Tuesday that there was sufficient evidence to categorize exposure to cell phone radiation as "possibly carcinogenic to humans."

Can You Tell These Fake and Real iPhones Apart?

We've seen our share of fake iPhones in the past but this is without a doubt the best one ever made. It's so close to the real deal that it is even compatible with Apple's official 30 pin connector and headsets.

Have a good look at the pictures below. I dare you to find out which one is real, and which one is fake. In case you can't figure it out, we'll give you the answer at the bottom of the post...

AT&T Running Out of Black iPhone 4, iPhone 5 Coming Out Soon?

Wow oh oh. This is probably the most exciting news of the day, even though it doesn't look like much on the surface. If you look at AT&T's website right now, you'll see that they are running out of black iPhone 4s.

They do have the white iPhone 4, and they even have refurbished black iPhone 4, but no new ones. What can that possibly mean? Maybe a new iPhone 5 coming out real soon?

Rumor: iPhone 4S This Summer With A5 Chip, 8MP Camera, GSM/CDMA Support, Integrated SIM

With WWDC right around the corner, the last, pre-summer iPhone rumors are coming in fast and strong. The latest one seems a little far fetched, but it does make some interesting claims about hardware announcements we'll see from Apple this year.

Instead of an iPhone release this fall, Macotakara claims that the 'iPhone 4S' will be released this summer, and that the iPhone 5 will be released in spring of 2012. The iPhone 4S will supposedly be a minor upgrade from the iPhone 4 (like the 3G/3GS), while the iPhone 5 will be a complete revamp. Sound crazy to you?
