Cydia for Macs to Go Live “Within Weeks”

With the recently announced Mac App store on the horizon -- which brings an iOS-esque store to Mac OS X platforms -- Cydia creator Jay "Saurik" Freeman plans to strike while the iron is hot.

That could only mean one thing, a Cydia Store for Macs; let's just call it Mac Cydia for simplicity's sake. But the real question is, what use will Mac users have for a Cydia store?

Apple Declares The Hottest Apps of 2010

In classic iTunes tradition, Apple has posted their "iTunes Rewind" for 2010. The best content from the iTunes Store is listed in different categories, from "top grossing" to "hot trends."

A huge section of iTunes Rewind 2010 is dedicated to the App Store, as one might imagine. There's a huge selection of chosen apps to check out...

StayOpened Keeps the App Store From Closing While You Shop

Don't you just hate it when you're in a store, and a clerk comes on the P.A. system, and blurts out, "This store will be closing in 15 minutes"?

That's how I feel every time I purchase an app from the App Store. It closes, and I'm not even finished shopping! Wouldn't it be nice, if we could keep the App Store opened  when downloading an app? That's the premise of StayOpened, a new tweak for jailbroken iPhones...

App Store Promo Codes Can Now Be Used Worldwide

Apple recently announced on the iTunes Connect website that app developers can distribute promo codes to iTunes users outside of the U.S. Previously, promo codes only worked for iTunes users in the U.S.

This news is a great thing for app users around the world. You now have the opportunity to receive codes for apps that developers wish to share for free...

Filopanti Does Simple and Pretty Time Zone Conversion

Time zones are a pain. There are 40 time zones in the world, and 4 in the United States. There are so many instances when it's necessary to know what time it is somewhere far away. I've been looking for any easy way to convert time zones on the iPhone for a long time, and Filopanti fits the bill perfectly.

"Filopanti" is named after Quirico Filopanti, who was the first person in history to propose a worldwide system of time zones in 1858. Filopanti's interface is elegant and dead easy to use. With Filopanti, you'll never be wondering what time it is across the country or on the other side of the world...

iOS 4.3 Rumored to Have December Release

We've barely had time to get to know the newly released iOS 4.2, and there are already rumors circulating that iOS 4.3 will be released as soon as next month. In particular, two sources have weighed in on a possible iOS 4.3 release for the not so distant future.

The rumor mill began with some words from John Gruber about Rupert Murdoch's new, mobile-centric newspaper called "The Daily." Apparently, Murdoch has been forming a mobile-specific news publication under the umbrella of News Corp. This new publication is rumored to deliver news through a subscription system in Apple's App Store...

5 Awesome iPhone Task Manager Apps

After positive feedback on my last roundup, I've decided to start a weekly (possibly bi-weekly) list of "5 Awesome iPhone ___________ Apps" articles. To reiterate from last week, the 5 apps I will mention in this list are not jailbreak apps, so everyone can use them.

Each of these apps are fantastic task managers for your iPhone. They have their own fortes and negatives, but, in my opinion, they're all deserving of the word "awesome." Hope you enjoy...

Amazon Releases New App, Price Check for iPhone

"Price Check" is Amazon's latest attempt at getting in your pocket. This shopping app lets you compare prices of products on Amazon.com. Amazon already has their popular Amazon Mobile app in the App Store, but they apparently thought that a more focused shopping app would be a welcomed addition to their mobile offerings.

Price Check allows you to instantly check the price of something with a variety of search options...

Path, The Personally “Personal” Social Network

A new social network startup has been getting lots of attention over the past few days. I say "social network" with hesitation. Path is a San Franciso-based startup with some high profile employees from the tech industry. Dave Morin, the former senior platform manager at Facebook, is the company's CEO. Shawn Fanning, the co-founder of Napster, is also heavily involved in the project. Kevin Rose, of Digg fame, is an investor.

Don't let the attractive and mysterious woman in Path's web banner fool you, you won't find her on Path. In fact, you won't find many people at all. Because Path only lets you have 50 friends...

Twitter for iPhone Updated With Push Notifications

The official Twitter app for iPhone and iPad was just updated to support native push notifications for @mentions and direct messages. Push notifications can be enabled in a new pane for your account settings.

Push notifications for  the Twitter app (and what was formerly Tweetie) has been a highly desired feature for a very long time. I'm sure we're all glad that Twitter has finally gotten around to implementing a feature that should have been part of the app when it was first released...
