Apple Watch hacked to run native Flappy Bird clone game

Native apps are indeed coming to Apple Watch in watchOS 2, but one developer is jumping the gun and showcasing his native clone of Flappy Bird running on Apple's wearable. Developer Hamza Sood, who is no stranger to hacks, tweaks and leaks involving Apple products, just revealed his Flappy Bird clone on video.

Want to see what it looks and sounds like to have a game utilizing native frameworks, Digital Crown control, and speaker output on Apple Watch? If so, watch this video.

BitTorrent Shoot moves batches of large media files between iOS, Android and Windows Phone

In this age of government-sponsored attacks on our privacy and eavesdropping of our digital exchanges, incredibly weak security in most sharing apps frustrates me. Unless you use iMessage or select few services, the spooks can pretty easily intercept those nude shots as they're being uploaded.

So why take the risk and not opt for the device-to-device sharing method, whenever possible?

While iOS's AirDrop feature is great, it leaves a lot to be desired. AirDrop isn't very reliable, doesn't cope well with large media files and is unavailable on other platforms, making direct photo sharing with an Android friend mostly a pipe dream.

Enter BitTorrent, one of the most common protocols for transferring large files. Based on peer-to-peer technology, their new mobile app called Shoot can help you share batches of photos and video directly between multiple devices, no matter what device you use or what network you’re on.

As it bypasses the cloud, utilizes encryption and was built from the ground up on top of the proven BitTorrent Sync engine, Shoot can move gigabytes of files easily and securely so your data remains completely private.

Twitter for iOS and twitter.com to start autoplaying videos today—here’s how to turn it off

You could say I'm not a big fan of intrusive autoplay videos in apps, not to mention those pesky autoplay video ads on some websites. With that in mind, I was taken aback when Twitter announced today adding this very feature to its iPhone and iPad application and the web interface.

Now when you stumble upon a tweet with an embedded Vine, animated GIF or a clip in Twitter's native format, it will begin to play back automatically.

It's all part of the grand plan to shove advertising down our throat though Twitter would have us believe it's trying to make our lives easier so we could “keep up with the action without missing a tweet and get a better sense of what’s been shared instantly.”

Because autoplay videos suck your cellular data, this feature is a major concern in this age of non-unlimited plans. True, Twitter promises to opt out of autoplay anyone who's on a high-rate data plan, but I'd rather trust my instincts and revert back to the old-school click-to-play experience.

Thankfully, there's an easy way to do just that.

Apple hiring a team of professional journalists to run Apple News service and curate content

Apple News, a brand new Flipboard-like app set to debut when iOS 9 launches this fall, will be run by a team of professional journalists who are currently being hired by Apple, The Financial Times learned Tuesday.

It's part of a broader push by the company to personalize the content it delivers to users of its devices, according to a recent job ad seeking successful candidates that would “identify and deliver the best in breaking national, global and local news”.

More importantly, the move indicates Apple is more interested in doing curated distribution for the News service than rely on algorithms like Google News does.

Telltale Games announces its first ever mini-series called The Walking Dead: Michonne

Telltale Games, the makers of rather popular cinematic cross-platform games such as The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones and The Wolf Among Us, announced at E3 a brand new miniseries for the iPhone and iPad called The Walking Dead: Michonne.

Developed by Skybound and framed as the next installment in The Walking Dead: A Telltale Games Series, the game takes place between issues #126 and #139 in the comics series and features the particularly popular Michonne character.

New in iOS 9: Native print preview

I don't often use AirPrint to print from my iPad or iPhone, but occasionally I find the need to do so. One of the things that's always bugged me about printing from my iPad is the lack of any sort of print preview.

Prior to iOS 9, if you wanted to print directly from the native iOS share sheet, you pretty much had to go into the whole ordeal blind, as you weren't provided with a print preview. With iOS 9, things have changed. You'll now find a native print preview option whenever you invoke the printing dialogue from the native share sheet.

Spotify launches fun new feature called Rewind that turns your music back in time

If you ever wondered which artists you would be listening to if you were born in another time, now you can thanks to Rewind, a new feature by Spotify that helps you turn your music back in time.

By doing so, Rewind makes it easy and supposedly fun to know what you'd be listening to in another decade, based on what you listen to today and thanks in no small part to Spotify's rich knowledge graph about its user base.

iOS 9 code hints larger ‘iPad Pro’ could have 2732×2048 display

The oft-rumored 12.9-inch 'iPad Pro' could feature a 2732x2048 display, according to evidence found in the first iOS 9 beta. Developers Hiraku Wang and Steve Troughton-Smith point to code in the beta that refers to a 1366x1024 device, which implies a true resolution of double that using @2x scaling.

That works out to a display area of roughly 12.93 inches and a PPI of 263, which lines up with previous reports. In January of last year, NPD DisplaySearch cited supply chain sources, saying that Apple had a tablet in development with a larger 12.9-inch display, a resolution of 2732x2048 and PPI of 265.

Cellular Continuity allows for phone calls on iPads even when your iPhone is off

Last week, it was reported that cellular Continuity would be making its way to iOS 9. The first carrier to support cellular Continuity is T-Mobile, which is unsurprising; it was the first to adopt Wi-Fi calling on iPhone as well.

Cellular Continuity allows you to use the Continuity features that debuted with iOS 8, features such as the ability to answer phone calls destined for your iPhone on Macs and iPads, without needing the involved devices to be connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

That means that you'll be able to leave your iPhone at home, and still receive phone calls on your iPad or other valid device while away from home and connected to the Internet via cellular or Wi-Fi.

But it goes deeper than that. After testing out this new feature on the iOS 9 beta, the Continuity features appear to be truly bound at the cellular network level. In fact, I could receive phone calls on my iPad while my iPhone was completely turned off. Watch our video demonstration for more insight.
