Named after Nancy Grace Roman – the first female executive at NASA who is also known as “Mother of Hubble” for her role in planning the Hubble Space Telescope – the latest Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope is NASA’s flagship infrared space telescope that aims to provide a better view of the universe. Roman Space Telescope launch wallpapers

The Roman Space Telescope launched aboard a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket from Launch Complex 39A at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida at 7:26 AM on August 30.

Since Falcon Heavy’s maiden launch on February 6, 2018 (when it placed Elon Musk’s personal Tesla Roadster to space), it has flown 13 times with an impressive 100% success rate. So, NASA choosing Falcon Heavy to launch its most ambitious telescope makes absolute sense.

The Roman telescope is now on its three-month journey to the Sun-Earth L2 Lagrange point, about 1 million miles from Earth. Once it arrives, Roman will enter a large halo orbit around L2, where it will begin its mission to picture the universe.

NASA says that:

The Roman telescope is designed to survey the universe a thousand times faster than the Hubble Space Telescope. This new telescope will have an unobstructed view of the universe and a wide field of view at least 100 times larger than Hubble’s.

Roman will be able to map billions of galaxies, study black holes, and more. It will help astronomers explore dark matter, dark energy, and worlds outside of our solar system, known as exoplanets.

Furthermore, the Roman telescope will send back 1.4 terabytes of data every day, which is the highest data rate of any NASA astrophysics mission so far.

As with all SpaceX launches (or any rocket launch, for that matter), the latest Falcon Heavy mission produced plenty of spectacular imagery. I have rounded up some of the best shots, each of which would make an incredible wallpaper for your phone.

I intentionally didn’t crop the wide images in tall phone resolution so you can use them as computer or tablet wallpapers. Plus, a wide image gives you the flexibility to pan and set the wallpaper as desired on smaller screens.
