The iPhone 6s is now available for pre-order

Following their unveilings on Wednesday, Apple has made both the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus available for online pre-order. As usual, folks initially had a hard time getting orders to through on Apple's website, and I had a terrible time with AT&T, but all portals should be working now.

If you're still having issues, we highly recommend trying out the Apple Store app, which you can download here. It offers a more streamlined buying experience and supports Apple Pay. For those trying to pre-order an unlocked iPhone, you may want to check out our tutorial here.

5 last-minute preparation tips before iPhone 6s pre-orders go live

The Apple Store is down and the stage is set for the release of the new iPhone 6s. We're hoping for a much-improved online ordering experience since Apple revamped its online store, but you can never be sure when it comes to Apple pre-orders.

The last big pre-order event was for the Apple Watch, and that was an absolute nightmare. Granted, Apple didn't have nearly as much Apple Watch inventory as it will have iPhone inventory, so things should be quite a bit better this go around.

Still, though, there are steps that you can take to make your morning a whole lot easier. Although there should be plenty of supply, you need not take any risks or create any unnecessary delays. You want to approach this ordering process in a strategic and tactical manner.

This is your mission. To succeed at this mission, you'll want to take the following five steps seriously...

Apple’s online store goes down ahead of iPhone 6s pre-orders

Apple has just taken its online store down, ahead of its pre-order launch for the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. Beginning at 12:01 am Pacific Time, or 3:01 am Eastern Time tomorrow, customers will be able to place pre-orders for both of the handsets.

In a new interview with The Wall Street Journal, Apple design chief Jony Ive reveals that the company spoke to Hermès regarding a possible Apple Watch partnership before the product was announced to the public last fall. "It’s something highly unusual for Apple to do—to talk about an unannounced project,” he explained.

For those who missed the news on Wednesday, Apple unveiled an all new Hermès edition of the Apple Watch that starts at $1,100. The device features custom watch faces, and a Hermès leather band that's available in multiple colors and three different styles: double tour, single tour and cuff.

Apple quietly raises the price of AppleCare+ for its new iPhones

If you plan on picking up a new iPhone 6s, you should be aware that the price of AppleCare+ just received an increase.

AppleCare+ is an enhancement to the basic AppleCare coverage that every new iPhone comes standard with. With AppleCare+, customers extend their hardware repair coverage and complimentary phone support to two years, and add up to two incidents of accidental damage coverage. Accidental damage covers anything from water damage, to drops, or other follies.

To take advantage of the accidental damage coverage, customers are required to pay a deductible fee for each accident. This fee is on top of the initial AppleCare+ signup fee.

When AppleCare+ initially debuted back in 2011, the signup fee was $99 and it the per-accident fee was a mere $49 for each event incurred. But over the last four years, the fees have slowly risen to the levels that they are today...
