How to reopen windows and tabs from your last browsing session in Safari for Mac

If you've ever accidentally closed a Safari window loaded with dozens of tabs, you know how daunting a task recreating them from your browsing history can be. Like many people, I used to be a huge fan of Google's Chrome before I eventually made a switch to Safari.

One of Chrome's simple yet tremendously useful features that I've always valued is a switch in settings telling the app to open with all the windows from your last browsing session.

Apple's desktop Safari, too, has had that feature for a while now but did you know of a hidden option for reopening all windows from the last session?

As many of you readers know, I’ve been in the midst of a serious mental debate involving the new iPhones.

As an iPhone 6 Plus user for the last year, I'm intimately familiar with all of the things that make the larger-sized iPhones so desirable. This generation, however, I decided to forgo the added luxury brought on by the Plus model, and rolled with the "regular" sized iPhone instead.

This decision, as you can probably imagine, didn’t come easy to me. If you’ve followed any of my recent blog posts or tuned into our recent podcasts, then you know how much I’ve waffled on this subject.

Why did I end up going with the iPhone 6s, when I was initially set on re-upping with the iPhone 6s Plus? In the end, it all boiled down to one particular reason...

I'm a huge fan of Apple's wireless keyboard, mouse and trackpad. My daily driver is a 2014 MacBook Air model and I also own a 27-inch Apple Thunderbolt Display which gets hooked up to the Air when I'm tied to my desk.

And of course, I also own a Magic Mouse, Magic Trackpad and Apple's Wireless Keyboard. These accessories soup up my desktop computing with precision input, wireless design and small footprint.

That being said, I'm currently on the fence of upgrading to Apple's new Magic Mouse 2, Magic Trackpad 2 and Magic Keyboard. I'm sure I'll eventually purchase them just because I'm sick and tired of buying new alkaline batteries every few weeks.

But right not, I'm having second thoughts because not everything about the new Magic devices is as rosy as Apple paints it.

WhatsApp gains 3D Touch ‘Peek’ and ‘Pop’ gestures on iPhone 6s

Facebook-owned WhatsApp messaging platform has received an update today, bringing support for 3D Touch gestures on new iPhones to the popular software.

The new WhatsApp 2.2.18 allows you to press in-app content harder to Peek and Pop pictures, videos, links, contacts cards and locations in chats. Home screen shortcuts via 3D Touch are not available yet in this release.

In addition, the app's interface is now mirrored and optimized for right-to-left languages on iPhones running iOS 9.0 or later.

No, it’s not just you; the iTunes Store is experiencing issues [Updated]

If you're having problems downloading apps or installing updates from the App Store, you're not alone. I am not able to download apps or install updates, and another colleague has verified the same. Also, if you check Apple's system status page, you'll see where the iTunes Store is experiencing issues.

This issue appears to be affecting iTunes Store, App Store, and Mac App Store purchases and updates. Best advice? Just be patient until Apple gets things resolved.

Designing the new iMacs and Magic accessories…

As you know, the Apple news of the day is the official release of a much-improved 21.5-inch iMac with Retina 4K display, refreshed 27-inch iMacs and the new Magic Mouse 2, Magic Trackpad 2 and Magic Keyboard wireless accessories.

Speaking with Apple's engineering leaders Kate Bergeron and John Terns, technology writer Steven Levy shared in a Medium article some rather interesting tidbits pertaining to creating the new iMacs and how members of Apple's Input Design Lab tackled the design issues encountered while engineering the new Magic accessories.

iMovie updated with 4K video support alongside new 4K iMac launch

iMovie for Mac just received a significant new update that brings 4K support and support for full HD videos at 60 frames per second. The update, which corresponds with the launch of Apple's long-expected new 4K-toting 21" iMac, allows users to edit and share 4K movies.

Billed as version 10.1, the new iMovie update will allow those using Retina Display-enabled iMacs, or a MacPro with a connected 4K display, to edit videos in 4K resolution. Although Apple doesn't explicitly state it, I'm assuming that iMovie's 4K ability will work with MacBook Pros that are capable of driving an external 4K display as well.

Apple’s refreshed Magic accessories have introduced a new Bluetooth pairing process

Apple's just announced Magic accessories—the $99 Magic Keyboard, $79 Magic Mouse 2 and $129 Magic Trackpad 2—don't just feature a refreshed design with an integrated litium-ion battery, Bluetooth 4.0 and a built-Lightning port for recharging, but a new way to pair them with your computer.

The previous-generation mouse, keyboard and trackpad had to be paired to your Mac using the standard wireless pairing process for Bluetooth-compatible peripherals: you would go through the Bluetooth pane of OS X's System Preferences to scan for Bluetooth device and pair one to your computer.

With the Magic Trackpad 2, Magic Mouse 2 and Magic Keyboard, the pairing process has been vastly simplified, however.

In addition to refreshing its iMac lineup with enhanced screen technology and faster chips across all models, giving the 21.5-inch iMac a brand new Retina 4K display and removing non-5K Retina models from the 27-inch lineup, Apple has also introduced a trio of new accessories today.

As rumored before, the second-generation Magic Mouse and Magic Trackpad have been announced, as well as an all-new aluminum keyboard marketed under the Magic Keyboard moniker.

As suspected, Apple today announced a refresh to its all-in-one desktop, refreshing the 21.5-inch model with a brand spanking new screen with 4K resolution versus a 1080p screen on the previous-generation model.

In addition, the Retina 5K display is now available on every 27-inch iMac as Apple has removed the non-Retina 27-inch models from sale.

The updated all-in-ones come outfitted with more powerful processors and graphics, two Thunderbolt 2 ports and new storage options that make the high-performance Fusion Drive even more affordable.

Last but not least, the Cupertino firm has refreshed its keyboard, mouse and trackpad accessories with rechargeable batteries, Bluetooth 4.0 networking and more, with the Magic Trackpad 2 featuring Force Touch technology.

New in iOS 9: scrub through your photos quickly

On the surface, the refined Photos app in iOS 9 hasn't changed much from the previous release. But scratch a little deeper and you'll discover a few gems that might not be readily apparent but will leave you wondering how you lived without them.
