Today in our quick tip section, we will see how to create and manage folders on your iPhone. Again, if you’re not new to the iPhone, you may want to skip this article as you won’t learn anything new here.

With iOS 4, Apple introduced a new way to organize your icons inside folders. Folders are an easy way to put related applications under the same label (ie. games, photography, etc…). Personally, I’m a big fan of folders. They make my iPhone screen look clean and organized

Here is how to organize your icons into folders…

Step 1: Tap and hold any icon until they all start jiggling.

Step 2: Tap an icon and drag it onto another icon.

Step 3: Your iPhone will automatically create a new folder, which you can rename to your liking.

Step 4: Click the Home button when you’re done.

To remove an icon from a folder, open the folder, tap and hold until icons jiggle, then drag the icon out of the folder.

The only thing with folders Is finding that one app that you do not use alot but can not get rid of it just in case… I’ve got to many folders now

  • GT

Am I the only one that doesn’t use folders? I only have 3 pages of apps in total and like seeing all the apps full size. Folders don’t look very pretty in my opinion.

its fix the delay (hiccup) when opening folder

Sorry Could you remind me one more time HOW TO SUCK EGGS

    • Z

I can remind you that it’s called tea bagging!

Thanks for the tip Sebastien! I know it’s off topic, but what’s the function of a hard reset?

      • I usually do a hard reset when my iPhone freezes (rarely happens). Hold the home and power button together until the iPhone shuts down.
Hey Z, I think it’s about time you go to and get your avatar to show up when you leave comments here. You’re a local on iDB and you deserve your own avatar instead of this default one. No?

      • Z

I was surprised to have that default avatar as it stuck and matched me perfectly. I also wear glasses 😎

I remember you already mentioned about the hard reset, but I wonder what it is that it actually resets and how it is different from a reboot. Also you can continue holding the home and sleep till your phone actually starts up, wonder if that makes any difference.

if you’re trying to put huge quantity of apps into folders, it’d be much easier to do it via iTune then sync to the iPhone.
To do this, first connect iPhone to computer, launch iTune, then go into the “App” tab. Put one app onto another will creates a folder, give this folder a name. Now here is a little time-saving trick: leave the folder open, then go to the app selection panel in the left-hand side, tick whatever app you wish to add to this folder, they’ll automatically add to the folder, no more drag and drop.
Once you are done creating and arranging folders/apps, just click the “sync” button to commit the change to iPhone.

Thanks for the tip! I have been longing for a utility that will automagically group all of my apps into their own categorized folders. This seems like the next best thing. Cheers!

Will not work with FolderEnhancer since it does not sync with iTunes.

You could also use MultiIconMover. It works great with FolderEnhancer.

  • 1. Touch and hold any icon until all the icons begin to wiggle like a bowlful of Jello.

    2. With the icons wiggling and jiggling, drag the icon into another icon.

    3. The iPhone creates the folder and the 2 apps inside. To change the name tap the name field.

I know that this is a really old thread. But has anyone had the issue on their iPhone (i’m a 4S) that MultiIconMover isn’t working with FolderEnhancer? I have been told to try turning all my other tweaks off, one by one, to see if it is one of them that is causing the issue. I was wondering if anyone had come across this, and could help me narrow it down or if there was a quick way of turning tweaks off and on to make the elimination process quicker.

    Thanks in advance.
