Elite7 is an iPhone theme that goes far beyond custom icons

A few weeks ago, I spoke with a respected graphic artist about the new challenges that iOS 7 presents for theme makers. In concluding that article, I stated that while the all-new user interface would certainly prove more difficult to customize, it would still be possible with some new techniques. Right on queue, it appears that at least one person has volunteered for the task.

Philadelphia-based Rob Grohman (BarsOverBeats) has been working on an upcoming theme called Elite7 for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, and it is one beautiful package. I'm not just talking about a custom icon set, but rather one of the first themes designed to customize virtually the entire iOS user interface down to the tiniest details. We've got a sneak peek ahead…

StayClassy is a flat and gentle theme for iPhone

iOS themes appear to be at the front and center of the jailbreaking community as of late, many of which we have featured in our ten best Winterboard themes roundup and new Theme Thursday series. The avalanche of releases continues with the arrival of StayClassy for the iPhone, a custom icon set that is both flat and gentle in design…

How to add the date and free RAM info to your Status Bar

How many times have you asked yourself "how can I add today's date as well as free RAM info in my Status Bar?" If you're anything like me, it would be about zero time. But let's me honest, we aren't all looking for the exact same things, and chances are you may be looking for such a tweak.

If that is the case, then let me introduce you to StatusModifier, a jailbreak tweak by Firemoon777 that was released earlier last month on Cydia. The tweak, as the name suggests, lets you modify parts of your Status Bar by hiding items, but also by letting you add the date and free RAM info...

Theme Thursday: Acies, Carla, Radiance and more

There has been a landslide of new themes released on Cydia in the past few weeks, some of which we covered in our recent roundup of the 10 best Winterboard themes for iOS 7. In an effort to continue that coverage, we are introducing a new series called Theme Thursday to showcase some of our favorite releases each week.

If you know of a good theme that isn't covered here, please leave your recommendations in the comments for inclusion in a future roundup. In the first edition, we take a look at Acies, Carla, Radiance and more…

Convergance takes your Lock screen in a bold new direction

Apple has always exercised fine-tuned control over iOS by making it a relatively closed platform, at least compared to Android. That is one of the main reasons why jailbreaking exists in the first place, with a major draw being the ability to customize an iPhone or iPad far beyond what is traditionally allowed. Convergance is an upcoming project for iOS 7 that aims to do just that, taking the Lock screen in a bold new direction with a crisp design, quick toggles and more…

WinterBoard receives an update to fix status bar issues

If you've tried any WinterBoard themes lately, then you've probably encountered the annoying status bar caching issue that causes themed status bars not to show up properly. Well, you'll be happy to know that Saurik has released an update to WinterBoard that fixes the status bar issue.

Dubbed version 0.9.3915, this WinterBoard update fixes the status bar issues, solves a problem with WebKit transforms, and has a couple of other fixes up its sleeve. If you're running any WinterBoard themes, then you'll want to be sure to update as soon as you can. Check inside for the full change log.

Icon Masks tweak takes your Home screen to the next level

If you've been following our blog closely over the last few weeks, you'll notice that we have covered quite a number of different themes that have been released or updated for the iOS 7 jailbreak. While themes are definitely the main option that most iOS users use to customize their devices, other methods exist to change the look and feel of an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.

All that leads into Icon Masks, a new jailbreak tweak that redefines the look of your Home screen icons…

How to add an OS X inspired battery indicator to the iPhone’s status bar

MacBattery is a brand new jailbreak theme that allows you to add an OS X inspired battery indicator to the status bar in iOS 7. The theme uses the Alkaline jailbreak tweak in order to modify the battery indicator without having to rely on WinterBoard. We already reviewed Alkaline in an earlier post last week.

If you're looking to switch up the look of your iOS 7 device's status bar, then Alkaline coupled with MacBattery is a good place to start. Have a glance at our full video walkthrough inside.

Wallpapers of the week: AR7 graphic, app, and theme

We come around to another week, celebrating with the Wallpaper of the Week section. Before digging around for new walls, it is important to point out, there were loads of new tweaks released last week for your jailbroken iPhone. Stylistic tweaks are always complimented by the correct wallpaper and we aim to please.

If many of you follow the section regularly, it is no surprise today is a feature of Italian graphic artist AR7. Several of his wallpapers were included in previous posts and he is well known in the community as one of the best wallpaper creators on the net. Take a look inside for a small wallpaper pack, his new app, and a jailbreak theme...

How to fix the Status Bar not updating properly after applying a theme

Now that WinterBoard has been updated for iOS 7, themers are back on the wagon either updating their themes or coming up with new ones. WinterBoard is a buggy app, and even Saurik, its creator admitted so when it was updated a few weeks ago. In short WinterBoard for iOS 7 is still a work in progress.

One of the bugs that have been affecting themers is related to the Status Bar. The problem comes from a caching issue preventing the Status Bar theming of some themes such as Ayecon or Solstice to propagate correctly to the entire UI. In some cases, you might see the themed Status Bar when running certain applications, while the themed bar might be absent from the Home screen or other apps.

Fortunately, there is one simple fix for this...

Ayecon for iOS 7: a must have theme, even if you don’t like skeuomorphism

If you've been jailbreaking for any decent amount of time, you've surely heard of the legendary Ayecon theme. This is a theme that set the standard for detail when Retina displays were still a relatively new feat in the mobile device industry.

A lot has changed since Ayecon first came riding over that hill on its white horse, reinvigorating the stagnant theming space in the process (I know some people will debate Ayecon's design, but they simply can't deny its influence.)

Flat is in, skeuomorphism is hated (and dead). So where does Ayecon fit in with this wave of change? Will Surenix, its designer, abandon the style that made Ayecon a success in the name of staying with the trend? Or, will he instead, stick to what made Ayecon work? Check inside for the full scoop along with the detailed video walkthrough.

Aura is an upcoming custom icon theme that supports over 200 apps

While theme makers certainly face increasing challenges because of how iOS 7 is designed, we've still seen a handful of great themes for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Aura promises to be the next. The upcoming theme provides well-designed custom icons for over 200 apps and counting, despite its creators—a five-person group called the iApex Team—stressing that it remains in beta with a lot of work to be finished. Even in its claimed infancy, Aura looks fantastic.

Update: This theme seems to be a rip off of another theme called iMIUI we covered last year. We were not aware of that at the time of publishing and we'll not give Aura anymore coverage until its developers come clean.
