Review

My favorite iPad stand is getting an upgrade

On November 27, 2013, I gave a gushing review of the MiStand, where I claimed the stand was "my new go-to dock, with a small simple and highly functional design." Today, I am still confident in that claim, as the MiStand has not left my kitchen counter since that initial review almost four full years ago. I use it regularly to hold my iPad, while working in the kitchen, watching videos or FaceTiming family. Consequently, I was very excited to learn about MiStand+, which is currently raising funds via Indiegogo for an upgraded version.

Jailbreak tweaks of the week: ControlCenterXI, GIFRoll & more…

The jailbreak community has been a bit slower than usual lately, but that's not to say things have gone stale. Great projects are under development that haven't been released just yet. Without spoiling those, however, we'll talk first about those that have been released already.

In this roundup, we'll discuss all of the jailbreak tweaks that were released throughout the past work week, starting with our favorites and finishing up with the rest afterward.

GIFRoll brings animated GIF support to iOS 10

One of the critical shortcomings of iOS is how the Photos app doesn’t display animated GIFs as they’re meant to be seen. Instead, opening one reveals a still image, which is a single frame of the animated GIF you’re trying to view.

Users have requested animated GIF support for years, but Apple waited until iOS 11 (Fall of 2017) to finally implement it. On the other hand, if you plan on keeping your jailbreak after the release of iOS 11 this Fall, you can use a new free tweak called GIFRoll by iOS developer isklikas to enable animated GIF support in the Photos app ahead of time.

DummyPass trumps over-shoulder peeping attempts on your passcode

If you use a passcode to unlock your iPhone or iPad, then you know how important it is to keep other people from seeing the digits you tap on to get into your device.

Since people are inclined to pay more attention to the numbers you tap rather than the pattern of the buttons, a new free jailbreak tweak called DummyPass by iOS developer Wisy uses this concept to your advantage.

NCLink10 groups inbound notifications by app and lets you collapse them

In the most recent iterations of iOS, inbound notifications on the Lock screen and in Notification Center aren't displayed as pleasantly as they once were in older versions. App-based notification groups and the ability to collapse certain groups have gone missing.

With a new jailbreak tweak called NCLink10 by iOS developer HiDaN, you can resurrect these feature on even the latest iterations of iOS.

Send yourself test notifications with this jailbreak tweak

There are countless jailbreak tweaks in Cydia that let you change the look and feel of your notification banners, but not all of them come with an option to preview your changes after you apply new settings.

If you come across this issue often, then you're going to love a new free release dubbed NotificationTester by iOS developer D4ni.

Get the iOS 11 Control Center interface on iOS 10 with ControlCenterXI

Just a couple of days ago, iOS developer LaughingQuoll released the first piece of the Eleven jailbreak tweak suite, which brings many of iOS 11’s features to jailbroken iOS 10 devices without needing to upgrade the firmware. Dubbed LockscreenXI, it mimicked the iOS 11 Lock screen interface.

If you found that release exciting, then you’ll be happy to know another piece of Eleven is now available in Cydia. ControlCenterXI is now available and brings iOS 11's modular Control Center interface to jailbroken iOS 10 devices.

LockscreenXI brings iOS 11’s Lock screen interface to iOS 10

Some jailbreakers are already drooling over the host of interface changes that come with iOS 11, but we encourage these folks to hold onto their seats. A jailbreak tweak collection dubbed Eleven is nearing full release that will bring many of iOS 11's new interface experiences to jailbroken iOS 10 devices.

The first piece of Eleven, LockscreenXI, brings the Lock screen experience of iOS 11 to jailbroken iOS 10 devices. It was just released in Cydia by its creator LaughingQuoll ahead of all other pieces of Eleven, which are still a work in progress.

‘Modern’ brings a new look to notification banners & Today widgets

If you’re interested in a new and modernized look and feel for your iOS notifications, then a new jailbreak tweak called Modern by iOS developer FromDerik might be worth checking out.

This tweak replaces the horrendously-large stock banner notifications that appear throughout iOS, whether you’re in an app, on the Lock screen, or looking at Notification Center with something better.

Give your power down menu an iOS 7-inspired makeover with StyloPowerDown

When you press and hold the power button on your iPhone or iPad, you’re presented with a switch for powering down your device.

This switch has undergone a host of cosmetic changes throughout previous iterations of iOS, and if you’re nostalgic of how it used to look in earlier versions, or you're just looking for a totally new look and feel altogether, then you might want to try a new jailbreak tweak dubbed StyloPowerDown by iOS developer iKilledAppl3.
