Jailbreak Tweak Adds #NowPlaying Feature to Facebook

Now that 4.3.3 jailbreaks are available, you may be looking for some new tweaks to improve your iPhone experience. Luckily, the jailbroken app store known as Cydia is chock-full of them.

One of the latest tweaks to enter the underground app store is a nice, tiny extension for your Facebook application. If you have always wanted an easy way to share your music with your Facebook friends, you may want to check this out...

Tweetbot Goes Under the Knife With Two Recent Jailbreak Tweaks

It's no secret that we at iDB love us some Tweetbot. In fact, I think Alex gave it its most glowing review to date.

Despite the positive response from us and the public in general, the app does have some opportunities for improvement in a few basic areas.

The first noticeably lacking option is landscape mode. That's right, there's no built in landscape mode to speak of just yet.

Secondly, the ability to tweet out messages longer than the stock 140 characters is nowhere to be found as well.

For those of you who love Tweetbot, but are at odds with these glaring omissions, jailbreak developer Filippo Bigarella has provided two worthwhile solutions...

Physwitch Allows You to Switch Apps with Your iPhone Volume Keys

When Apple unveiled their multitasking bar in iOS 4.0, they were fairly late to the party. As with multiple features, the jailbreak scene had already had multitasking apps like Backgrounder out for a while. Although it was belated, a lot of people really took a liking to Apple's new multitasking support.

Then there are people like me, who are constantly searching for a better alternative for switching between applications. Sure, there are apps like Stacks and Dock that make multitasking easier, but is there anything else available?

DataDeposit Let’s You Wirelessly Backup Your Saved iOS Data with DropBox

If you haven't discovered how awesome DropBox is just yet, I highly recommend checking it out. The ability to sync content from your iPhone to your computer without wires or multiple steps makes transferring photos and other media a snap.

Not only is the service free, but you constantly have folks in the jailbreak community developing neat extensions for it. FullDrop is a nice one that allows you to use DropBox to transfer files between your iDevice and your computer outside the scope of the App Store's app. Today, another app for the popular sync service has surfaced in Cydia...

PKGBackup Tutorial – How To Backup And Restore Your Jailbreak Apps, Settings, and Preferences

If there's one area of jailbreaking that continues to be a source of confusion, it's backing up all of your jailbreak apps and tweaks.

There are many different methods devised by just as many people, but there continues to be a lingering sense of misunderstanding among the throngs of jailbreakers.

Fortunately there is one surefire way to backup your iPhone, and all of your jailbreak settings each and every time by means of a handy little jailbreak app called PKGBackup...

Lima is a New Browser-Based Cydia Alternative

After Cydia was crippled by the the recent Amazon EC2 outage, jailbreakers have been seeking out alternative options to get their favorite iOS extensions. Currently, Cydia is widely known as the "only" jailbroken app store, but it certainly seems like the Infini Dev Team is looking to change that.

You may recognize them as the developers who are bringing back the popular Icy package installer, which has been absent from the jailbreak scene since iOS 3.0. But Icy's not the only Cydia challenger these guys have been working on. They have another project in the oven called Lima...

Icy Cydia Alternative Makes a Comeback

That's right folks, the silky smooth Cydia alternative is back up and running. For folks who have been around the jailbreak scene for a while, you undoubtedly remember Icy. The dpkg installer worked similar to Cydia, but always seemed faster and more refined than its counterpart.

Since Cydia and Rock joined forces, there really hasn't been any competition in the jailbroken app store industry. Icy is looking to change that by returning to the scene with a fresh coat of paint. Does it have what it takes to be a worthy challenger after being gone for so long?

Speed Intensifier Speeds Up Your iPhone

Tired of waiting for Apple to release the next iPhone to experience faster speeds? Luckily, there's an app for that. Well, at least there is if you are using a jailbroken device.

Speed Intensifier is a 2-part tweak that can speed up your iPhone's performance by shortening or completely removing iOS animations. These transitional animations typically happen when you open a folder or window, and can really slow you down as you bounce between apps...

xBackup Allows You to Completely Backup Cydia with One Tap

Apple has been dropping firmware updates like they were going out of style lately. Just 2 months after iOS 4.3 was released, a third update is on the horizon. Luckily, the jailbreaks are keeping up with the releases, but are you?

While most folks don't appreciate rebuilding their iPhone, I relish it. I love starting with a clean slate and making my iPhone look completely different than it did before. If you haven't upgraded to a recent firmware in fear of losing all of your stuff in Cydia, check this out...

ScreenSaver Gives Your iPhone… Well… You Get the Idea

It's not real hard to figure out what an app called ScreenSaver does. The Cydia application has been making some noise around the web the last few days, so we figured we should mention it on iDB.

For those who don't know, ScreenSaver takes .mov files stored in its Library folder and automatically plays them when the iPhone auto-locks itself. It sounds pretty cool, but does it really work as advertised?

‘MyApps’ Makes it Easier to Find Jailbreak Apps And Tweaks From Specific Developers

Have you ever found a tweak so ridiculously useful, so incredible helpful, so indubitably beneficial, that you wanted to find and download every other app or tweak from that developer?

I've found myself in that boat quite a few times over the years, and usually it results in something resembling a search and rescue mission with the help of Google.

If there's one feature that Cydia needs, it needs a "more by this developer" section, so that we can find more apps from a particular developer that we've grown fond of.

Until that day comes, there is a stopgap app that has been released on the Cydia store entitled MyApps. Does it fit the bill until Saurik gives us the real thing?

Jailbreak Tweak Adds #NowPlaying Feature to Tweetbot

Some of the things that pop into the Cydia store amaze me. Innovation can really flourish in an environment like Cydia where there are little restrictions to hold developers back. Untrackerd is a perfect example of that innovation.

But jailbreaking is not just good for disrupting Apple's hidden tracking service, it's also good for customizing your iOS and downloaded tweaks to make your life easier. The jailbreak tweak I'm about to mention falls in the latter category, by making a great app even better...
