evasi0n sees over 100,000 downloads in first 10 minutes

About 20 minutes ago, the moment everyone has been waiting for finally arrived: the evad3rs released their untethered iOS 6 jailbreak called 'evasi0n.' Now, everyone with a device running iOS 6 or higher (except for the ATV) can jailbreak their devices.

And it seems like everyone wants to. Unless you got in within the first few minutes, you probably received the above error when trying to download the evasi0n utility. That's because there's over 270,000 people trying to access the site right now...

Evasi0n could drop at noon EST tomorrow

By now, most of you have probably already heard that Evasi0n will not be arriving today. The evad3rs tweeted this afternoon that the final countdown towards 'tomorrow's release' has begun.

Of course, they didn't give us any idea of what time to expect it tomorrow. But, as a few folks on Twitter have pointed out, the progress bar on the Evasi0n page is set to expire at noon tomorrow...

evasi0n moves closer to release, now 80% complete

Sunday is not that far away. Depending on where you are in the world, it could be as little as a day away. With that in mind, it's great to see status bar on evasi0n.com, which signifies the completeness of the upcoming jailbreak, continue to rise.

Earlier today we reported that the status had approached 75%, with the Linux version of evasi0n still being in the works. Now, the Linux version is completed, and private beta testing is proceeding full steam ahead...

Use your iOS device as USB flash storage with roqyUSB

One of the features I've missed from the classic iPods is the ability to plug the devices into a computer in order to directly access their hard drives or flash memory. When I was in school, I didn't carry a USB key around with me because I always had my iPod and everyone had the cables handy. While there is software that can transfer files between an iPhone and a PC, we're generally not permitted to install programs on shared computers.

One solution is roqyUSB, a jailbreak utility that allows users to create virtual hard disks which can be accessed by USB. This isn't the first virtual USB drive we've seen for jailbroken devices, but it is the first we've seen in a default repository...

Flex now available on Cydia

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XG-dICc0i0o

Flex — the jailbreak app that allows you to create your own jailbreak tweaks — is now available for download on Cydia's BigBoss repo. As we showed you in our hands-on walkthrough, the app allows you to create patches and run them on the fly to modify aspects of iOS.

Flex has been met with a bit of controversy. Some developers believe that the tweak is too powerful for the average user, and thus shouldn't be released. Others believe it's an awesome attempt to get users familiar with how iOS works on a low-level. Wherever you stand, it can't be denied that Flex is an awesome looking tweak with an excellent UI to boot.

Flex can be had now for $3.99 on Cydia. Let me know what you think about it in the comment section.

evasi0n jailbreak is 75% complete, private testing has begun

As most of you know, the iOS 6.x jailbreak got official this week. The evad3rs launched their website on Wednesday, unveiling evasi0n, the software that's going to break our devices free from Apple's chains.

Also on the website is a progress bar, which gives an updated look at how close the jailbreak is to completion. And if you looked at it this morning, you would have noticed that it just jumped to 75% complete...

5 tweaks that you must download after jailbreaking iOS 6

Once the iOS 6 jailbreak is released, there are a few tweaks that you absolutely must download. Thankfully, Cydia will be better equipped to handle the barrage of users so that you will be able to download all of your favorite apps and tweaks with little issue.

While we wait, why not consider a few of my must-have jailbreak tweaks for iOS 6? Post jailbreak, we'll follow up with more recommended apps and tweaks, but we think this list would be enough to wet your appetite...

‘Pages+’ adds customizable backgrounds to each Home screen page, boasts Barrel compatibility

Evasi0n, the much anticipated jailbreak tool for iOS 6 compatible devices, will be available in the very near future. With that in mind, many jailbreak developers are updating their tweaks and apps, and even establishing brand new creations to prepare for the new jailbreak.

One such developer is SBCoders, the same team behind such hits as Aero and Dash. SBCoders' latest creation, the yet to be released Pages+, continues the tradition of solid jailbreak tweaks. Pages+ allows you to customize each page on the iPhone's Home screen. You can accomplish this by means of custom wallpaper packs, or by its built in page tinting system.

The most exciting thing about Pages+, however, is that it plays nice with Aaron Ash's Barrel. Barrel, of course, is the jailbreak app that allows you to implement various page transitions on your iPhone. When you mix both creations together, you're guaranteed to get some wild results.

ZodTTD resumes work on n64ios

If you're an avid retro gamer like myself, you probably snagged the $1.99 preview build of n64iOS on Cydia, hoping to enjoy classic titles. Unfortunately, in it's current state, the N64 emulator for iOS is more of a tech demo than a working emulator. Although games run at near-playable speeds on hardware as old as the iPhone 4, the many graphical glitches combined with the jumbled control scheme make most games unplayable.

Shortly after the emulator was last updated in May, ZodTTD posted on Twitter that there would be an update which would revamp the entire UI, including the ROM manager and the wonky controls. Since then, there has been no new release of n64iOS. That may be changing soon: According to a recent conversation with Will Strafach, ZodTTD is once again working on n64iOS.

New iOS 6.x jailbreak to be called ‘evasi0n’

The iOS 6.x jailbreak has a name, and it's 'evasi0n.' The evad3rs—a team of hackers made up of musclenerd, pod2g, pimskeks, and planetbeing—have just launched their official website. And their first post is a big one.

Not only does it give the name of the new jailbreak, but it also shows their progress on it, what the requirements will be to run it, and other details...

How to write longer tweets with TweetAmplius

Do you have lots of contacts in Twitter, but aren't crazy about limiting your tweets to 140 characters? Do you you use tweet expander services and URL shorteners, and find they're more hassle than they're worth?
