iMessage Bug Lets Thieves Keep Texting From a Stolen iPhone

One of the benefits of iCloud is Find My iPhone, a service that lets you locate and remote wipe a handset if it is stolen or misplaced. While remote wiping an iPhone on iOS 5 cleans the device of your personal information, a bug in iMessage has been discovered that lets a thief continue to send messages from someone's iMessage account.

Ars Technica has uncovered the bug, and the scariest part is that permanently deleting your Apple ID is the only way to circumvent the issue until it is addressed by Apple.

Recent iPhone 4S 5.0.1 Update Was in Response to SIM Card Errors

Apple released a number of updates for its iOS products this week. It seeded the second beta for iOS 5.1 to developers, Apple TV 4.4.4, and a small iPhone 4S update.

The latter release was strange because it wasn't available to everyone (just those on iOS 5.0 or lower), and the version number didn't change. So, what was it for?

Apple Expected to Sell 190 Million iPhones and 81 Million iPads in 2012

What's better than 30 million? How about 190 million. Morgan Stanley analyst Katy Huberty has predicted that Apple is set to shatter its previous sales records in 2012, with 200 million iPhones expected to fly off the shelves.

Oddly, more consumers are expected to buy iPhones in the first quarter of next year rather than this holiday 2011 quarter. Demand for the iPad isn't weakening, either.

How to Use Siri to Help You Shop for Gadgets

We've seen Siri do everything from turn on a fireplace to control a TV set, so there's not much that Apple's digital assistant can do at this point that would surprise us. But all of these tricks require use of the Siri Proxy.

What about the average user that probably hasn't installed the proxy? Well, there's still Wolfram Alpha. The database allows you to do a number of things with Apple's new handset, and it just added another cool feature.

Make Your iPhone Apple Logo Glow with this Cool Mod

Chinese manufacturer K.O. Gadget has just revealed a cool new hack that will make the Apple logo on the back of your iPhone 4S glow, much like the logo on MacBooks. For $42, the company will send you the kit to perform the mod and claims that it can be done at home in less than five minutes.

The mod is actually pretty simple since you are only replacing the back panel of your iPhone. The back panel has a transparent Apple logo which lets light pass through it, but the trick is the "light strip" that you add to it...

iPhone 4S Launches in Over 20 New Countries

Just as was predicted earlier this month, Apple rolled out its latest handset to several new countries today. Even though the company didn't make an official announcement in advance, its website now reflects the additional regions.

The iPhone 4S launched here in the states back in October, along with a handful of other countries. Since then, Apple has been speedily rolling out the popular device to new areas on a month by month basis. So who got it today?

Apple’s A5 Processors Now Being Made in Texas

Some interesting news today if you like chips (and who doesn't?), especially those that go into the beating hearts of our iPads and iPhones. Samsung's Texan facility has historically been the source of NAND flash memory, but according to a new report by Reuters, it is also now responsible for the A5 chip used by Apple.

The A5 chip is what powers Apple's iPhone 4S and iPad 2, and bringing production of the part to the United States hasn't been cheap for Samsung.

Siri Jailbreak Tweak Promises SBSettings-Like Experience

I've always thought something like this will be a good idea, and it will come to fruition as soon as an iPhone 4S jailbreak is released.

While the circumstances around an iPhone 4S jailbreak are still a tad sketchy, what's clear as day is that this tweak would be ridiculously handy, and should have been a native Siri feature to begin with.

Essentially, this allows you to control various toggles like Wi-Fi connection, bluetooth, etc. using only your voice. e.g. "Turn Wi-Fi on", "Set the backlight level to 60%", and pretty much anything else you'd normally be able to toggle with SBSettings.

New iOS 5.0.1 Release Makes iPhone 4 Siri Port Legally Feasible

You may have noticed that Apple released an updated version of iOS 5.0.1 not too long ago, and with it comes some interesting news regarding security.

It appears that the new iOS 5.0.1r2 features decrypted ramdisks, which means that it now possible to write a script to download the 5.0.1 and extract the necessary files needed for a Siri port.

Since the download is publicly available from Apple's server, the idea of a Siri port just got a lot more legal...

Apple Seeds Updates for the Apple TV and iPhone 4S

Apple has been on a roll this week with software updates, seeding iOS 5.1 beta 2 to developers and iTunes 10.5.2 to the masses. Now the company has just released two more software updates for iOS devices.

The first is for the Apple TV 2, bringing the device to iOS 4.4.4. The update appears to just contain minor improvements, as no new features have been discovered yet. And the second is for the iPhone 4S.

Vietnamese iPhone Fans Set For 4S Release This Week

Another country is going to be getting its teeth into the iPhone 4S soon, with the news that Vietnamese carriers will begin offering the newest Apple smartphone as soon as tomorrow, Friday 15th of December.

The move comes as Thanh Nien News confirmed that both VinaPhone and Viettel will be offering the iPhone 4S to its customers starting tomorrow, with both locked and unlocked flavors available.

What is a little less clear is the pricing structure for the handsets, with the unsubsidized prices looking decidedly strange, to say the least.

iPhone 4S Promo Tops List of 2011’s Most Viral Tech Videos

Viral videos have become a popular form of online advertising over the last few years. A company can potentially reach a large audience for minimal production costs if YouTube aficionados deem their videos interesting enough to spread the word.

And since no other company does advertising like Apple, it's no surprise that the iPhone-makers have found themselves on a list of the most viral tech videos of 2011. The year's most popular handset stars in one of the year's most popular tech clips.
