How to block ‘Write with Siri’ on iOS 27 keyboard

Learn how to get rid of the irritating ‘Write with Siri’ button and the Siri icon that shows above the iOS 27 keyboard on iPhone and iPad.

Write with Siri in iOS 27

Apple has partnered with Google and now uses a custom Gemini model to power Siri and its AI features. As a result, Siri is vastly improved, and Apple is leaving no stone unturned to make sure you notice.

One of the things the new Siri does in iOS 27 is take over the keyboard’s predictions area at launch, then morph into a smaller Siri icon when you start typing (after all, it has to make way for word predictions).

Just like I detest the Copilot icon in Microsoft SwiftKey keyboard, I absolutely don’t like ‘Write with Siri’ showing up on my stock iOS keyboard. It may make sense for a minute in apps like Pages, where I have long documents and could use Siri to help proofread or rewrite a few lines. But why in the world am I going to tap the ‘Write with Siri’ button in the Messages app for casual conversation?

On top of that, I fear these AI writing tools will make me (and people in general) dumber over the years. I really don’t want to depend on an AI writing tool to jot my thoughts in a note or send someone a quick text or email.

So I turned it off, and I will show you how to do the same on your iPhone or iPad running iOS 27 or iPadOS 27, both of which are currently in beta.

Block Write with Siri from showing on iPhone keyboard

1) Open the iOS 27 Settings app.

2) Tap Screen Time.

3) Tap Content & Privacy Restrictions.

4) Turn on Content & Privacy Restrictions.

5) Tap Siri.

6) Tap Writing Assistance and set it to Don’t Allow.

7) Force quit and reopen the writing app, or just restart your iPhone.

Write with Siri will no longer show up above your iPhone keyboard. The minimized Siri icon won’t show up on the left side of the predictions row either. But you may still see the Siri option in the thin menu strip or big menu pane when you select text, and you can use it to proofread or fix your writing.

Since Apple doesn’t provide a simple switch in Siri settings, you’ll have to do this by enabling Screen Time restrictions, as shown above. This is fine if you’re blocking the Siri writing tool on your child’s device. But on personal devices, enabling Content & Privacy Restrictions, along with setting up a Screen Time passcode (which isn’t needed to hide Write With Siri), can lead to minor inconveniences, like the Sign Out button being grayed out in your Apple Account panel.

If you ever want to get Siri’s constant help for writing, return to Screen Time restriction settings and allow Writing Assistance.

If you don’t like iOS 27 beta, there is still time for you to downgrade to iOS 26. Once iOS 27 is released publicly in September, Apple, in its usual fashion, will stop signing iOS 26, and you won’t be able to downgrade.
