Horn goes free as Apple’s new App of the Week

I sincerely hope that you've downloaded last week's Free App of the Week, Warhammer Quest, a triple-A role playing game from Rodeo Games and Games Workshop set in the famous Warhammer world.

Apple does not always highlight premium apps and games in its ongoing promotion, but this one has definitely rightfully earned every avid gamer's attention.

So, how about another not-to-be-missed freebie?

Your prayers have been answered: enter Horn for the iPhone and iPad, Apple's latest Free App of the Week. Normally a $6.99 value, Horn is free until next Thursday, April 24.

This premium third-person action adventure game has you playing as Horn, the young blacksmith's apprentice who must fight monstrous creatures - actually your fellow villagers transformed into dark creatures by a curse.

Released in August 2012, Horn is set in a lush and beautifully rendered fantasy world. The game received some rather raving reviews due to its wonderful graphics, precise controls, Zelda-like appeal, great voice acting completed by Austin Wintory's soundtrack and an addictive combination of puzzle-solving and sword slashing action.

Best you act now and grab it free in the App Store, lest you forget about it later...

Hitman Go arrives in the App Store

As promised, Square Enix Montréal has brought its console-only Hitman franchise to iOS with today's release of Hitman Go. Like past Hitman titles, this game puts you in the shoes of the franchise's main hitman character, Agent 47.

But unlike previous releases, Hitman Go is turn-based and involves stealth elements coupled with puzzle solving and requires a strong focus on strategy planning.

The game features diorama-style set pieces and its turn-based approach dictates game mechanics where you navigate fixed spaces on a grid in order to avoid enemies and infiltrate well guarded locations. Your ultimate goal: taking out your target.

The iPhone and iPad game is now available for five bucks a pop. Jump past the fold for more info...

Upcoming ‘Castaway Paradise’ is an Animal Crossing-like game for iPad

It doesn't look like Nintendo is going be bringing any of its games over to iOS anytime soon—despite pleas from both fans and critics—so iPhone and iPad gamers are going to have to make do with the titles they have. Fortunately, that list will soon include Castaway Paradise, which looks and plays a lot like Animal Crossing.

For those unfamiliar with Animal Crossing, it's a cluster of community simulation games developed by Nintendo. Set in a village of talking animals, players are tasked with carrying out a variety of activities in an open-ended storyline. And if you consider yourself a fan, you should check out Stolen Couch's 'Castaway Paradise.'

SideSwype mixes the mechanics of ‘Threes’ and the match-three genre

When you look at the picture above, your first thought may be, “this looks like another clone of Threes.” I know that I thought so when I took my first glance at the game. Although the basic mechanics are the same, the game is not a clone.

SideSwype is a match-three game that doesn’t act like it. Unlike traditional gem matching puzzles, players don’t have nearly as much control over what matches are made or when…

Knights of Pen & Paper turns an RPG into a tabletop adventure

Have I told you yet that I play Dungeons & Dragons? I have a group of friends that introduced me to the game back in 2002 and we’ve managed to keep the group together for 12 years through moves, marriages, kids, and everything else that might normally destroy a good gaming group.

Knights of Pen & Paper is a satirical role-playing game that lets you play a tabletop adventure, complete with dungeon master and unhealthy snacks. In this version, you want the cat to jump on the table. You’ll get a power buff…

‘Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft’ for iPad now available worldwide

Back in March, Blizzard launched its digital card trading game ‘Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft’ on the Mac, and as promised, it has brought the game to iOS. The title soft-launched for iPad earlier this month, and now it's available in App Stores worldwide.

Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft, for those unfamiliar with it, is a strategy card game set in the Warcraft universe. Players compete in 1v1 battles—either against the computer or via Battle.net—in an effort to grow the size and power of their card collections…

David. brings minimalist platformer gaming to iOS

When I think of platformer games, the last thing I am thinking about is minimalism. However, it appears that there is a new trend in mobile games and it comes in the form of cubes and blocks. Last week, we told you about Sometimes You Die, which does not follow any traditional platform game rules.

David. is a similar game that doesn’t look like it’s supposed to, but still employs game mechanics you are familiar with. The game’s developer describes it as a mix between Limbo, Shadow of the Colossus, and Angry Birds…

The new vehicles fall under the new 'Open Wheelers' category, and include classics such as the Caterham Seven 620R, Ariel Atom 3.5 and Atom V8. The 2014 Porsche 911 RSR and Hyundai Veloster Turbo have also been added...

Nintendo DS emulator that runs on both non-jailbroken and jailbroken iOS devices arrives

Back in February, GBA4iOS 2.0 released with iOS 7 controller support and Dropbox integration, running fine on both non-jailbroken and jailbroken devices.

If you're not a big fan of Game Boy Advanced, Game Boy Color and original Gameboy games, how about a similar iOS emulator that lets you play Nintendo DS titles, no jailbreak required whatsoever?

Enter NDS4iOS, now available to install through an over-the air download via the NDS4iOS website. This app has been available for ages, but not for non-jailbroken devices. Harmonix announces upcoming ‘Record Run’ game for iOS

The name Harmonix is legendary in the console gaming world, as it was behind a number of popular games in the early 2000's—Guitar Hero, Rock Band and Dance Central to name a few. And now it's hoping that success will translate into the mobile world.

The studio announced its first mobile game yesterday at PAX (Penny Arcade Expo) East called 'Record Run.' It's an endless runner of sorts that asks players to avoid various obstacles and collect vinyl records, while jogging to the beat of a custom soundtrack...

Warhammer Quest goes free as Apple’s new App of the Week

Like every Thursday, Apple yesterday refreshed the App Store's ongoing Free App of the Week promotion.

The company's been running this promotion for months now and we've seen both must-have and mediocre apps and games go free in Apple's continuing mission to boost downloads by giving cherry-picked titles additional exposure. Warhammer Quest by Rodeo Games and Games Workshop is the latest title to go free for a week.

Previously costing five bucks and now available free of charge until next Thursday, this dungeon-based game will win you over with its addictive mix of role-playing and strategy elements.

Released ten months ago, this iOS adaptation is set in the Warhammer world and stays true to the original in looks and design. The game involves hundreds of weapons, armors and items and - yes - challenges you to battle through the legions of orcs, goblins, skavens and other creatures...
