The iPhone 5: super-glued on one of the busiest squares in Amsterdam

Human nature is generally tricky, sometimes odd and quite often hard to fathom. One of the more awesome ways of observing us mammals and our peculiar interest in valuable objects is the classic dollar-bill-on-a-string trick.

Surely you remember this one from your childhood: some joker attaches a string to the underside of a dollar bill and hides behind a corner. Then, when you reach down for it, the person yanks it away. But that's so last century.

A more contemporary take on that classic formula: stick an iPhone 5 to the pavement in one of Amsterdam’s busiest squares and watch what happens…

Fail: Fox 5 News reports the iPhone 5 has laser keyboard

If you've ever seen your local news station report about Apple products, or other tech-related topics, you know it isn't always the best coverage. Let's just say, technology isn't really their strength.

That was once again confirmed last night, as Fox 5 News in New York inaccurately reported on the iPhone 5 and its features, claiming Apple's new handset has a "laser keyboard and holographic images..."

The banned iPhone 5 promo video

You knew it was coming, so here it is: the banned iPhone 5 promo video.

My favorite line? "The iPhone 5 is the thickest and heaviest iPhone we've ever made. Just fucking with you. Of course we made it thinner and lighter. 18% thinner, 20% lighter, blah blah blah. Are people still impressed by this?"

Funny, hey?

Joy of Tech on the ‘disappointing’ iPhone 5

As expected, Apple's "boring" iPhone 5 has shattered previous sales record, selling two million pre-orders in just 24 hours. Cupertino's rivals were quick to point out how the updated hardware "only" boasts a slightly larger display (versus jumbo-sized Android phones), 4G LTE and a faster chip - ignoring numerous little hardware tweaks under the hood.

As Apple fans know, these include the handset's refined two-tone redesign, HD Audio for crisper phone calls, three mics, better battery life and seamless integration of hardware, software and services delivering the smoothest mobile experience there is, to name a few.

We love Joy of Tech comics and were expecting their take on the "boring iPhone 5". Here it is...

Samsung kidnaps buyer to copy iPhone 5 tech in new Conan vid

Conan O’Brien regularly pokes fun at Apple and we here at iDB love his funny takes on Cupertino's products and moves. He mocked the Apple v. Samsung monster trial, the new iPad Retina Display, Siri commercials and the lost iPhone prototype meme, to name a few. Now he's back at it again.

Riding high on the iPhone 5 tidal wave, the 49-year-old host of the TBS late night show sent out an intern to buy an iPhone 5 from Apple. The poor kid got kidnapped by Samsung's men in black to presumably held him hostage in order to gain access to the Phone 5 technology.

If you didn't laugh at Conan's video, laughing at yourself is always a nice alternative (here, here and here)...

The iPhone 5: It’s all in your head

"How will people know that I upgrade?", asked rhetorically a guy standing in the line for a new iPhone in Samsung's anti-Apple ad from last November. Breathing new life into the "iPhone is boring" meme, ABC's Jimmy Kimmel sent the camera out on the street to ask people to check out the new iPhone 5 whereas in reality they were looking at the current iPhone 4S. Apparently, a lot of people are willing to believe that an iPhone 4S is the iPhone 5...

CollegeHumor does its version of the iPhone 5 event

Apple's media events, like the one for the iPhone 5 yesterday, have long been a source of fodder for parodies. They're both distinct and recognizable, which always makes for easy mockery material.

CollegeHumor is the latest contributor to the category, as it recently posted a new video called "Apple Coasting Keynote." In it, a Tim Cook-like character takes the stage and announces...nothing.

The genius behind Shit Apple Fanboys Say

Apple commands cult-like following and rivals like Samsung and Motorola (Verizon, too, in its pre-iPhone days) were quick to isolate Apple's core base as both its biggest advantage and a major PR vulnerability. If you believe a series of anti-Apple ads by Samsung, people who stand in the line for a new iPhone are weirdos collectively known as iSheep.

These ads play to the widely accepted notion that die-hard Apple lovers are fanatics. Just ask Mac consultant and FileMaker Pro developer Scott Rose, the brains behind a pair of clips conveniently titled "Shit Apple fanboys say" (here and here).

The funny videos that rationalize on Apple’s behalf blew up in no time and became a trending topic on social media sites, racking up nearly a million views on YouTube in just a couple days, here's how he went about doing them...

Shit Apple fanboys say, Part 2

We like how Scott Rose nailed it in Part 1. This is even better. If you recognize yourself saying any of these things, you're officially Apple's bitch.

Hey, we can laugh at ourselves, right? My favorite: "“Don’t listen to Woz, he’s crazy”.

Apple’s patent war meets Star Trek in this parody video

Despite Apple's clear court victory last week, ultimately proving its theory that Samsung crossed the line with its iPhone and iPad copying, the Cupertino company is still taking heat from critics.

Some folks believe that Apple using its hefty library of patents to sue other companies will end up destroying innovation in smartphones. And, according to this video, the Starship Enterprise...

New game lets you fight presidential candidates Infinity Blade-style

We're in the middle of an election year here in the US, and come November, we will have a new President. But until then, we will be forced to endure countless hours of debates, political TV ads and who knows what else.

Luckily, the folks over at Chair — the team behind the popular Infinity Blade franchise — just released a game to help us cope with all of the stress of the election. It's called VOTE!!!, and it's actually pretty fun...
