Netflix launches virtual recommendation assistant Max, coming soon to iPad

Netflix today announced that PlayStation 3 users can take advantage of its new feature, a goofy recommendation engine dubbed Max.

Kinda a crossover between iTunes Genius and Siri, Max is designed to help you find something great to watch in a fun, conversational way (Netflix rather confusingly calls it "the child of Siri and HAL 9000").

Tapping Netflix's extensive database of tags and your viewing history, the engine recommends movies and television shows it thinks you might be interested in watching. And when it doesn't feel confident enough about its predictions, Max may ask you a question or challenge you to play a "ratings game"...

Amazon Instant Video iOS app gets personalized recommendations

Good news for those how prefer to get their entertainment from Amazon instead iTunes. In a newest update to its Instant Video streaming iOS app, the online retail giant has enabled personalized recommendations for movies and television shows based on your past viewing habits, while enhancing the experience with a handy new navigation bar.

Of course, in order to take advantage of the app you'll need to be subscribed to Amazon's Prime, a $79 a year membership which gives you unlimited access to thousands of titles and over 140,000 videos available from the Amazon Instant Video store, with support for Watchlists, offline viewing and more...

First full trailer for Ashton Kutcher’s ‘Jobs’ film released

The first official trailer for Ashton Kutcher's 'Jobs' was finally released today, giving the general public its first glimpse at the movie. We saw a snippet of the film earlier this year, when it debuted at the Sundance Film Festival, but it never really made it beyond the tech world.

'Jobs' has had an interesting year thus far. After receiving mixed reviews at Sundance, the film's April release date was canceled and the project was shelved. Then, earlier this month, we learned it would finally be hitting theaters in August. So without further ado, here's your trailer...

Man of Steel game arrives ahead of tomorrow’s Superman movie premiere

As part of the upcoming Superman movie, Warner Bros. today released the official movie tie-in game on the App Store. The Man of Steel companion game supports all form-fator iDevices natively and features great graphics and memorable locations such as Smallville and the Kent Farm.

This being an action-focused arcade title means you'll be fighting foes using a plethora of moves, bone-crunching combos and super powers. I've included the official promo video and more tidbits right after the break...

Ashton Kutcher’s Jobs flick to debut on August 16

Following Funny or Die's awfully received iSteve flick, another Steve Jobs biopic is slated for release later this summer. Ashton Kutcher's jOBS film, which debuted at the Sundance festival back in January, was originally slated for a worldwide release on April 19, but got delayed. According to the latest Hollywood chatter, the movie is now set to launch on August 16 in the United States...

Warner Bros posts trailer for upcoming Man of Steel game

Folks looking forward to the upcoming 'Man of Steel' Superman flick will be happy to hear that Warner Bros has just posted the "official mobile game trailer" for its iOS/Android game of the same name.

The trailer is very entertaining, but it doesn't offer up much in terms of details. At a high level, it looks like your typical big budget super hero movie game, with high flying action and a good-vs-bad storyline...

Apple hasn't done much with iTunes Movie Trailers since it released it in late 2011. The app, much like Flickster, offers up movie previews, reviews, showtimes, and other useful information regarding feature films.

Apple inexplicably pulling movie trailer downloads

A movie buff like myself has always been a big fan of Apple's QuickTime movie trailers web site. I've especially enjoyed the ability to download my favorite trailers in their full-resolution 1080p glory, useful for times when I'm without or on a slow Internet connection.

Unfortunately - and in a rather surprising move - Apple seems to have started removing the download option from both past and upcoming submissions. Worse, the company appears to have effectively eliminated 1080p trailer availability, meaning people accessing the QuickTime movie trailers web site from their computer can now only stream those videos in either 480p or 720p...

If you thought TodoMovies was great, wait until you see Limelight for iPhone. Created by young developer Oliver Cameron of the iOS app development agency called 9:42am, Limelight lets you manage your collection of the movies you've already watched or want to watch, share your movie lists with friends, receive recommendations and more.
