Apple introduces new Pencil stylus for iPad Pro

Following its announcement of the long-rumored iPad Pro, Apple introduced two new accessories for the 12.9-inch tablet. The first is the keyboard, which you can read about here, and the second is a stylus accessory that the company is calling the 'Apple Pencil.'

Apple used a traditional Jony Ive-voiceover video to unveil the Pencil, with the newly-appointed Chief Design Officer saying "Apple Pencil is designed to look and feel like a familiar tool. Highly responsive sensors built into Pencil can sense pressure, tilt, and stroke."

Today, Apple unveiled “the biggest news in iPad since the iPad,” as CEO Tim Cook put it. Yes, the iPad Pro gets real. It's got the biggest screen in an iOS device measuring 12.9 inches diagonally and is driven by the fastest Apple-designed iOS device processor yet.

Apple's Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing, Phil Schiller, raved about the benefits of the bigger screen that provides more screen real estate for games and apps.

Apple TV’s Events channel updated in time for today’s event

The Apple Events channel on your Apple TV box has been refreshed with matching teaser graphics and description ahead of today's 'Hey Siri' media event. “Tune in at 7:00 PM (Local Time) on September 9 to watch this event live,” reads the description on the screen. The splash page displays personalized livestream times depending on your whereabouts.

The media presentation is set to kick off in San Francisco's massive Bill Graham Civic Auditorium at 10am Pacific Time. Earlier this morning, the Apple Online Store went offline ahead of the event.

Apple appears to have trademarked ‘tvOS,’ the next Apple TV’s likely software platform name

With just a few hours until Apple's keynote, a series of trademark filings for the name 'tvOS' have been discovered by MacRumors, indicating that the Apple TV's new operating system will indeed be referred to as 'tvOS', which would be in line with the naming convention for iOS and watchOS platforms.

Apple appears to have protected the trademark via a shell corporation, as is its usual modus operandi when it wants to hide trademark filings from general public.

Gruber: there’s only going to be one Apple event this fall

Popular Apple blogger John Gruber went with his gut on Tuesday, and reasoned that there would not be new a new iPad Pro revealed at today's Apple event. His reasoning, I thought, was totally logical: Apple had too many other big items on its plate to give the iPad Pro the proper stage time that it deserved.

After mingling with those in the know out in San Francisco, however, it appears that Gruber is now convinced that there will only be one Apple event for the remainder of the year.

Despite how little sense it makes, the iPad Pro, if it indeed exists, will be revealed in just a few hours from now.

New Product Red Apple Watch Sport band retail packaging leaked in photo

It's been long suspected that Apple would lend some stage time to the Apple Watch at today's big iPhone event, and this photo, first tweeted by Larry Greenburg, makes it more evident that that will be the case.

A new Product Red Apple Watch Sport band retail package was the focus of a somewhat blurry photo, but it definitely looks like the real deal. Of course, we've seen this band before, so it's not a huge surprise that we're seeing retail box photos so close to Apple's event. What could this mean for the rest of the rumored Apple Watch-centric releases at the event?

Apple Online Store goes offline ahead of today’s iPhone 6s, iPad Pro and Apple TV 4 event

If you're thinking about buying some gadgets in the Apple Online Store, you will have to wait until Apple's 'Hey Siri' media event has wrapped up as the company's webstore has just gone offline ahead of the press conference, which kicks off in San Francisco at 10am Pacific.

In a long standing tradition, Apple takes its online stores down around the world ahead of major media events to both raise anticipation and prepare refreshed product pages.
