How to add the date and free RAM info to your Status Bar

How many times have you asked yourself "how can I add today's date as well as free RAM info in my Status Bar?" If you're anything like me, it would be about zero time. But let's me honest, we aren't all looking for the exact same things, and chances are you may be looking for such a tweak.

If that is the case, then let me introduce you to StatusModifier, a jailbreak tweak by Firemoon777 that was released earlier last month on Cydia. The tweak, as the name suggests, lets you modify parts of your Status Bar by hiding items, but also by letting you add the date and free RAM info...

PassTime lets you customize the passcode requirement duration (and it’s really awesome)

If you've been listening to either Let's Talk Jailbreak or Let's Talk iOS, you've probably heard Cody and I rant about the fact that you can't use Touch ID for iTunes purchases without either using Touch ID or a passcode to unlock your device.

Since I first got my iPhone 5s, this has been a big annoyance. I do like the simplicity and security that Touch ID brings to my purchases on iTunes or in the App Store, but I do not want to use Touch ID or even a passcode to unlock my device. As it turns out, Apple won't let you do one without the other.

Enters PassTime, a new jailbreak tweak by Julian Weiss that lets you set custom passcode or Touch ID unlock requirement durations, effectively solving my biggest Touch ID pet peeve...

Problems with Notification Center not properly showing Today view? Try this fix

Jailbreaking has so many benefits that we often forget the drawbacks of it all. When you jailbreak your device, you basically put yourself at risk of breaking little things here and there. That's exactly what is happening with the recently released evasi0n7 jailbreak for iOS 7. On the surface, everything is ok, but when you start digging, you might notice that a few elements aren't working the way they should.

One problem that I and many others have experienced is an issue with Notification Center not showing the Today view information properly. In some cases, it won't show any weather or calendar data. If you've been affected by this issue, read on for a short tutorial on how to fix it...

QuickContacts lets you quickly access your favorite contacts from Spotlight

There are many ways you can quickly access your contacts from remotely everywhere on an iOS device thanks to clever jailbreak tweaks, but to my knowledge, QuickContacts is the first to add your favorite contacts to Spotlight Search.

Developed by Joshua Lee Tucker with help from Kyler Phillips, QuickContacts makes your favorites accessible with a quick pull down gesture from the Home screen. I took the tweak for a spin and will now share my experience with you...

Samsung profits drop as the company faces fierce competition in both low and high end markets

Things are not happy and beautiful any longer for Samsung, the world's number one smartphones manufacturer. As reported by Bloomberg, the Korean giant has posted its slowest growth since 2011.

Who's to blame for the slow growth pace? For one, there is Lenovo, Huawei and other makers of cheap smartphones who've been flooding the markets in many areas, especially in Asia, a strong ground for Samsung. Apple is also partly responsible from Samsung's decline as the fruity company has been luring high-end customers away from the Galaxy line maker...

How to fix the Status Bar not updating properly after applying a theme

Now that WinterBoard has been updated for iOS 7, themers are back on the wagon either updating their themes or coming up with new ones. WinterBoard is a buggy app, and even Saurik, its creator admitted so when it was updated a few weeks ago. In short WinterBoard for iOS 7 is still a work in progress.

One of the bugs that have been affecting themers is related to the Status Bar. The problem comes from a caching issue preventing the Status Bar theming of some themes such as Ayecon or Solstice to propagate correctly to the entire UI. In some cases, you might see the themed Status Bar when running certain applications, while the themed bar might be absent from the Home screen or other apps.

Fortunately, there is one simple fix for this...

SPTouch brings a virtual Home button to your iPhone

There are several ways you can emulate the Home button without actually pressing the Home button on your iPhone. You can use Activator gestures, or even tweaks such as Virtual Home.

SPTouch, a new tweak by Paolo Smedile is yet another option. This tweak brings a small Home button anywhere on your screen that you can tap at any time to go back to your Home screen...

How to prevent iOS screenshots from being uploaded to Photo Stream

On any given week, I take dozens of screenshots of my iPhone or iPad for either personal reason, or as part of my workflow at iDB. For each post I publish involving an app for example, there are at least two screenshots, as you can see above.

Of course, every time you take a screenshot on your iOS device, it is automatically uploaded to your iCloud Photo Stream. Over time, these screenshots can be really annoying and distracting, especially if, like me, you use your Photo Stream as the screen saver of your Apple TV.

Thankfully, a jailbreak tweak called Screenshot Dam is available to stop screenshots from uploading to Photo Stream automatically...

Upcoming tweak lets you unlock your Mac using Touch ID

We've seen our fair share of Touch ID-related tweaks since the release of the evasi0n7 jailbreak a few weeks ago, and we keep being amazed at some of the ideas developers come up with.

French developer Eric Castro came up with yet another brilliant idea to take advantage of Touch ID, but this time, the tweak is not used to directly interact with your iPhone, but rather with your Mac...

evasi0n7 1.0.4 brings security update and fix for Retina iPad mini

Hot on the heels of yesterday's release of evasi0n7 1.0.3, evad3rs today pushed another update to the iOS 7 jailbreak tool. evasi0n7 1.0.4 provides important untether security updates as well as a fix for the iPad mini with Retina display issues.

This is the second evasi0n7 update in two days. Yesterday's release was also supposed to provide a fix for the boot loop issue that some Retina iPad mini users were affected by, yet many still encountered the problem. As the evad3rs note, evasi0n7 1.0.4 will hopefully fix this problem once and for all...

Winterboard updated with support for 64-bit devices and iOS 7

Themers and all around jailbreakers will be happy to learn that Winterboard, a staple in the jailbreak community when it comes to theming, has been updated to bring complete iOS 7 support, and maybe more importantly, support for arm64 devices such as the iPhone 5s, the new iPad Air and iPad mini with Retina display.

Although Winterboard worked fine in many cases for older devices running iOS 7, there were still bugs and inconsistencies. These problems should soon be a thing of the past now that Winterboard has been updated...
