How to add Twitter and Facebook share widgets to Control Center

A few days ago, I wrote a post showing how to bring Twitter and Facebook share widgets back to the Notification Center using an app called Share Widgets for iOS 7. In this post, I noted that Apple probably didn't add these share widgets in the iOS 7 Notification Center because that's not the right place for them. When you think about it, sharing something on Twitter or Facebook has nothing to do with notifications.

A more natural fit for Twitter and Facebook share widgets is Control Center. With an array of tweaks now being developed for Control Center, one in particular grabbed my attention as it allowed me to do what I really wanted from the beginning: add Twitter and Facebook share widgets to Control Center.

This tweak, some of you may have already guessed, it CCToggles...

How to use Activator to replicate Zephyr functionalities

Zephyr is, with BiteSMS, one of my must-have jailbreak tweaks for iPhone. While BiteSMS has started making its way to devices on iOS 7 for a few weeks now, Zephyr is still nowhere to be found.

In fact, after chatting with Zephyr developer Grant Paul (aka chpwn), I was told that there were no plans at this time to update the tweak for iOS 7. So I decided to make the best I could with what I have: Activator by Ryan Petrich...

iOS 7.1 beta 3 doesn’t patch evasi0n7 jailbreak

With today's release of iOS 7.1 beta 3, many people feared that exploits used in the evasi0n7 jailbreak would be patched. As it appears, and even though evasi0n7 cannot jailbreak iOS 7.1 beta 3 as is, Apple didn't patch evasi0n7.

Although official members of the evad3rs still have to talk about it, the news has been confirmed by hacker iH8sn0w in a recent tweet...

How to access your calendar app from Notification Center

You've probably noticed how you can access the Weather app just by tapping on the weather condition in the Today tab of Notification Center. If you've tried to do the same with the calendar app, then you probably realized that tapping on today's date in Notification Center doesn't do anything.

This is a minor annoyance that a new jailbreak tweak called TapTodaysCalendar is now eradicating...

SkipLock lets you bypass the Lock screen altogether

Regular iDB readers may remember a tweak we talked about last year called SkipLock. SkipLock is a simple tweak that allows you to bypass the Lock screen of your device, unless it is password protected, or unless there is a pending notification on the screen, in which case, you will still have to slide to unlock your device.

An original idea by yours truly, and developed by famous jailbreak dev Filippo Bigarella, the tweak was only available on Filippo's repo and never made it to the public.

iOS 7 broke SkipLock so I asked Filippo if he could do something about it. A few minutes later, he came back to me with a .deb file which I quickly installed on my iPad mini, and it worked just as advertised. The good news is that SkipLock is now available on Cydia...

How to always get a Dark Keyboard on your iPhone

With the release of iOS 7.1 beta 1, Apple introduced a new accessibility feature that would allow users to always have the dark keyboard by default, instead of having iOS display a light or dark keyboard depending on the background. This feature was gone from the next beta release, but it is coming back to life thanks to Bloard, a new jailbreak tweak, developed by GN-OS...

How to bring Twitter and Facebook share widgets back to Notification Center

Share widgets have been gone from the iPhone and iPad since the first beta release of iOS 7. Some thought that they would return with the official release of iOS 7, but as we were all able to verify, that was never the case.

Of course, share widgets have nothing to do in Notification Center in the first place. After all, the goal of Notification Center is to notify you, not to provide ways to share to Twitter or Facebook. Still, that was a great loss for many users.

Jailbreakers rejoice, because today, you can easily bring back those share widgets thanks to a new jailbreak tweak called Share Widget for iOS 7...

Happy new year

And just like that, a year went by again.

I can still remember last year at the same time, when I started making resolutions for the new year that was about to start. As it turns out, I didn’t follow through most of them.

As we grow older, and as our lives get busier, it seems harder and harder to find time to do the things we really want to do. Various obligations make our days shorter, sometimes forcing us to miss the essential parts of life.

I’ll consider myself lucky for doing something I love for a living, which really makes my days more enjoyable than the average worker, I assume. I’m also very lucky to have such an amazing family. My daughter, my wife, and our future baby are constant reminders that life is wonderful and that you should enjoy every single moment. Carpe diem!

Maybe I’m drifting away from the original intent of this post.

I guess what I’m trying to say is that life is short, so I hope you’re getting the best of it. A new year is the right time to look back at where you’re at in life and where you want to get to. Maybe it’s a good occasion to make slight changes and make sure you’re on the right track to do whatever you want to do.

On behalf of everybody at iDB, I would like to wish you a happy new year. I hope this new year will bring you health, wealth, love, and everything else in between. I also want to thank you for being a loyal or occasional reader. Whether you read iDB every single day or you’re just stopping by, my message to you is the same.

Happy new year!

The best apps of 2013: iDB readers’ choice

For the past month or so, we've been compiling lists of what we think are the best apps of 2013. Divided into specific categories, each list is composed of 10 apps handpicked by iDB editors. For each category, iDB readers were able to vote for their favorite app, helping us come up with what we believe to be the best of the best apps of 2013.

In order to be eligible, apps had to have been released in 2013. This ensured that we were putting new apps under the spotlight, rather than always seeing the same ones at the top.

With your help, we present you the best of the best apps of 2013...

evad3rs disable default TaiG installation in China until further notice

Following the backlash coming from the whole jailbreak community for bundling TaiG to their evasi0n7 jailbreak, the evad3rs have decided to turn on the kill switch for this highly controversial feature in order to deactivate it while they investigate the piracy claims.

Earlier today, the evad3rs came forward acknowledging having inked a financial deal with Chinese installer TaiG. According to evad3rs, the agreement clearly required TaiG not to facilitate piracy, which turned out to be closer to wishful thinking than actual binding terms...
