Mortal Kombat X, HBO NOW, Count, and more apps to check out this weekend

Now that we’ve gotten all of that Apple Watch pre-order business out of the way it is time to focus on new apps and games that came out this week. There is always something new to check out in the App Store. I can’t wait to test out all of the Apple Watch apps in two weeks.

If you are itching for some iOS action, we’ve got a list of apps and games that are worthy of your time this weekend. If you don’t find anything that tickles your fancy, don’t worry. We make these lists almost every day.

Helicopter Flight Simulator Online

Helicopter Flight Simulator Online

I’ve always wanted to take a ride on a helicopter. I’ve taken plenty of plane rides in my life, but never a helicopter. This simulation game puts you right in the pilot’s seat of an Apache AH64 (or a Euro copter, Bell, or Aerospatiale). As you fly over the New York terrain, you’ll see all sorts of details, like blimps, balloons, and even an aircraft carrier. Once you’ve learned how to take off and land, you’ll be able to complete 60 missions as a rescue pilot, military pilot, and private or commercial pilot. Each category has its own set of objectives. This game is available for free.

Count – powerful finance manager

Count

If you are looking for a new way to track, plan for, and manage your personal finances, this new app may be just what you are looking for. You can add multiple accounts and keep track of purchases, income, and other financial information. You can easily select which account a purchase has been made from to track bank and credit card activity. The financial report will display a colorful, easy to read graph, showing you where you spend your money. There is even a section to keep track of who you have borrowed money from and who has borrowed from you. This app is available for free.

Sky Wings

Sky Wings

It seems like the theme for this week is flying. First you can imagine yourself as a helicopter pilot. Now you can take to the skies in a prop plane that looks like it was built at Disneyland. Fly through dozens of levels in an endless flyer style game. Grab as many coins as you can and spend them on power ups and upgrades. Earn you wings for getting high scores. The skies won’t be clear for this adventure. You will be dipping, diving, and dodging from all manner of obstacles, including tall buildings and wayward commercial planes. This game is available for free.

Diode – 108 Drum Machine

Diode - 108 Drum Machine

If you fancy yourself a homegrown digital musician, you are going to want to check out this new drum machine app. Not only can you get inspired with retro sounding beats, but you can also mix it up with new sounds from today’s rhythm section. Plus, you can import your own Wav files for even more selection. Kits are fully customizable with pan, volume, pitch, and more. You can mix and match sounds, like snare, handclaps, and cowbells to create your own kit. With Note mode, you can tune your drums to any chromatic note in an upper or lower octave. This app is available for $5.99.

Mighty Marvel Heroes

Marvel Mighty Heroes

Marvel is really making a name for itself in the entertainment industry. It used to be just a comic book company. Now, games, movies, and music are regularly coming out in the name of Marvel. This battle arena coop style game lets players fight as their favorite super hero on the streets of New York, fighting against the evil villains that are trying to take over the world. You will join up online in real-time four-player cooperative battles. Defeat the most villains to take the lead in your group. The more experience points you earn, the higher your overall ranking will be. This game is available for free.

HBO NOW

HBO NOW

The new season of Game of Thrones is just around the corner. If you are not already a cable subscriber, this is your opportunity to get in on everything HBO has to offer just before the kickoff of the new season. For $15 per month after the 30-day free trial expires, you will get full access to more than 2,000 titles, including HBO hit shows and the latest movies. You can also finish where you left off. Watch something on Apple TV and pick up on the iPhone right from the spot you stopped. This is it, guys. This is what we’ve been asking for decades. If HBO gets it right, maybe this will happen across the board with other channels. This app is available for free.

Mortal Kombat X

Mortal Kombat X

The tenth installment of the Mortal Kombat series is now available on iOS. In this swipe/tap version of the long-standing fighting game, players travel across the land to fight enemies. Create a team of three with such iconic members as Scorpion, Johnny Cage, Sub-Zero and more. Unlock new fighters by opening collectable card decks (or, Kard Decks, as they are called here). You can compete in a coop arena with other online players against real life teams in the Faction Wars. You can even call on other players to “lend” you one of their characters to be your ally as you fight your battles. This game is available for free.
