Walmart, Everybody and Their Mother, to Carry Verizon iPhone

So, today is officially V-day, a.k.a. Verizon day. To celebrate, everyone's invited, and I do mean, everyone.

Walmart is the latest retailer to get their grubby hands on the Verizon iPhone 4 at launch, making it apparent that Apple wants to move the iPhone 4 into commodity status.

Not that the iPhone 4 was some rare luxury device to begin with or anything, but c'mon, it's Walmart...

AT&T Offering Free “Mobile to Any Mobile” Calling for Customers

Verizon has been stealing attention away from the iPhone's original carrier, and it looks like AT&T is doing all it can to keep disgruntled customers from jumping ship.

500,000+ Verizon iPhones have already been pre-ordered, and the device just became available for purchase on Apple's site.

Needless to say, AT&T is definitely feeling the heat from its new competition, and it's doing everything it can to ensure that customers don't cross over to the dark side...

Guess What’s Available for Order Today? (Hint: It Rhymes With Horizon MyPhone)

Up until now, those wishing to hop on Big Red's iPhone 4 train had to be existing customers. Back on February 3rd, those customers were able pre-order during an event that supposedly resulted in record sales figures.

While we're still a bit skeptical about the numbers, there's no doubt that the prospect of having the iPhone on an alternative carrier in the States is an idea that the masses relish.

Feeling left out? Fret not, because the Verizon iPhone 4 is now available for purchase, even if you aren't an existing Verizon customer...

New Verizon iPhone Has Antenna Issues Too

Just when you thought we were done with the antennagate, a new video from iLounge surfaced, showing that the Verizon iPhone is also affected by an antenna issue. When held in the prior "death grip" position, the Verizon iPhone loses substantial cellular signal, just like we previously saw with GSM iPhone 4.

Additionally, the CDMA iPhone 4 seems to be affected by a loss of wifi signal when held snugly in landscape mode. Both issues seem to be taken care of with the use of a case...

Verizon iPhone Chipset Supports Both GSM and CDMA

The guys over at iFixit already got their hands on a Verizon iPhone and took it apart to compare its guts to those of the "original" iPhone 4. Most of what they found wasn't very surprising, but they did make one interesting discovery.

The Verizon iPhone sports a Qualcomm MDM6600 baseband chipset similar to the Droid Pro World Phone's, which brings support for both CDMA and GSM...

GreenPois0n Updated to Jailbreak Verizon iPhone

According to reports, a few lucky people have already started receiving their pre-ordered Verizon iPhones, which should officially be available to the rest of the US this coming Friday.

Ahead of the official Verizon launch date, the Chronic Dev Team has updated GreenPois0n to jailbreak iOS 4.2.6. We now have a proof that the jailbreak was successful as this picture was released earlier today...

MyWi “OnDemand” Brings Intelligent Hotspot Functionality to the iPhone

MyWi is an incredibly popular Cydia app that allows jailbreakers to have a heavily customizable mobile hotspot with their iPhone's 3G connection. We here at iDB love MyWi, and it's definitely been a staple of what the jailbreak scene has to offer for quite some time.

Intelliborn, the company behind MyWi, recently added a new feature to the popular hotspot app called "OnDemand." The purpose of MyWi OnDemand is to create a smarter mobile hotspot on the iPhone.

MyWi OnDemand will study the behavior of the devices connected to your hotspot, and connect or disconnect when you need it to...

Why Verizon iPhone 4 Record Sales is Anything But Amazing

You might have read somewhere that Verizon broke a sales record with the pre-order of the iPhone 4 this Thursday. Verizon actually issued a press release which quickly got picked up by every tech blog, touting this as an incredible event.

The press release quotes Verizon's CEO saying "in just our first two hours, we had already sold more phones than any first day launch in our history. And, when you consider these initial orders were placed between the hours of 3 a.m. and 5 a.m., it is an incredible success story". I call BS on that...

AT&T Commercial “Answers” The Biggest Problem With Verizon iPhone

And you thought the Mac v.s. PC ads were heated. It looks like Verizon and AT&T are prepared to sling mud now that AT&T is not the only carrier claiming the iPhone as its flagship device.

The finger pointing started when AT&T sent out an email to its customers with the subject line, “Feel free to make a call while reading this email." This jab was aimed directly at Verizon, who's CDMA network does not currently allow voice and data at the same time.

Big Red then struck back at AT&T with a poignant and witty commercial featuring the Verizon "Can you hear me now?" guy. AT&T has now retaliated with its own Verizon-aimed commercial...

iOS 4.3 Coming Very Soon, In-App Subscriptions, Personal Hotspot, and the iPad 2

All signs have been pointing to Apple releasing iOS 4.3 in the very near future, with speculation that Apple's 4.3 announcement could even come next week. Most speculation is centering on an Apple announcement taking place within the next 10 days.

Besides an iOS 4.3 announcement, Apple is rumored to be announcing the iPad 2, the Verizon iPhone's "Personal Hotspot" feature on AT&T, and an official release of in-app subscriptions.

Whether or not all of the speculation is accurate, it's evident that Apple will be holding an event in the near future...

Verizon Strikes Back at AT&T with New iPhone TV Ad

A few days ago we told you about how AT&T slapped Verizon in the face by ridiculing Big Red and the fact that the iPhone on Verizon can't make calls while surfing the web. At the time, I predicted this was just the beginning of hostilities between the two giant.

Yesterday Verizon stroke back by launching their very first commercial for the iPhone. Simple, short, and brilliant, this TV ad makes fun of AT&T in just 6 words: "yes, I can hear you now". Obviously this is a shot at AT&T's poor network...

Poll: Did You Pre-Order a Verizon iPhone 4?

Verizon started taking pre-orders for the iPhone 4 earlier today. While I suspect they won't sell as many as AT&T did in the past on their first day, I'm still pretty sure some of you will jump ships and leave AT&T for a supposedly better carrier.

Please take a few seconds of your time to take this poll, and let us know if you have or intend to pre-order a iPhone 4 with Big Red today...
