Verizon to Throttle Data Speed and Start Compressing Images and Videos

BGR came across an interesting document from Verizon revealing that the company will be throttling data speed for its heaviest data users. If you're one of Verizon's top 5% users of data, the company will periodically reduce your data throughput speeds.

Additionally, the company intends to optimize images and videos by compressing them before they get to your device, which will inevitably decrease the quality of the converted content.

As Verizon is starting to take pre-orders for the iPhone 4, this move doesn't come as a surprise...

Best Buy Will Have the Verizon iPhone at Launch

There had been rumors within the past few weeks that Best Buy would carry the Verizon iPhone 4 on its launch on February 10, but up until now, these were just wild speculations. Today, Best Buy confirmed that the company will indeed be selling the Verizon iPhone 4, on the first day it is available to the general public.

The 2 iPhone models will sell for the same price as AT&T's iPhone: $199 for the 16GB model and $299 for the 32GB model. Below is the full press release from Best Buy...

Verizon iPhone 4 Available for Pre-Order Tomorrow

According to a Press Release from Apple, all existing Verizon customer will be able to pre-order an iPhone 4 tomorrow from Apple or Verizon's website to be picked up or delivered beginning on the 10th of the month.

"Beginning on Wednesday, February 9, all qualified customers will be able to order an iPhone 4 on Verizon through the Apple Store (www.apple.com) for delivery or reserve for in-store pick up beginning February 10.

Beginning at 7 a.m. local time on Thursday, February 10, iPhone 4 on Verizon will be available to all qualified customers at Apple’s retail stores. iPhone 4 will also be available at more than 2,000 Verizon Wireless Communication Stores nationwide."

Yeah, it's on. Let the cat fight begin! Now that Verizon is getting the iPhone, Apple is trying to downplay the differences between the 2 carriers with sweet commercials reminding us that the network doesn't matter. But because Apple is playing nice doesn't mean the 2 carriers have to play nice.

Today AT&T sent emails to some of their customers with the subject line "Feel free to make a call while reading this email". The email goes on saying that "only AT&T's network lets you talk and surf the web at the same time on your iPhone"...

AT&T Makes Good on Rumored Texting Plan Changes

A couple of weeks ago, we reported on some rumored changes that AT&T was planning for their texting plans.

It was said that the main reason for the change was to "simplify" their texting plans. Coincidentally, this change comes just prior to the iPhone's arrival on Verizon.

Simply put, AT&T is looking to capitalize on any and every advantage it possibly can as a way to help combat a potential mass exodus to Verizon.

Apple’s Co-founder, Steve Wozniak, Confirms That the White iPhone 4 Will Ship Soon

Apple's co-founder, Steve Wozniak, recently confirmed that issues with the infamous white iPhone 4 are fixed and that the product would be ready to ship in the near future. In an interview with Engadget, Woz addressed some of the mysterious problems that have been preventing the white iPhone 4 from shipping.

According to Woz, the white paint was not the only problem with the mythical unicorn. The white iPhone parts were causing the iPhone's camera to malfunction.

In the interview, Woz claims that Apple has fixed the production line issues with the white iPhone 4, and that shipping should begin in the distant future...

Found in Cydia in the pre installed Big Boss Repository, FakeCarrier from Eric of the mirror dev team allows you to change the wireless carrier name to whatever you would like.

Although the Verizon iPhone's official launch is slated for February 10th, Verizon is giving existing customers the first shot at the device by offering pre-orders.

These pre-orders are slated to start at 3AM EST on February 3rd, but the good news is that you don't have to change out of your pajamas to do so.

All pre-orders will be registered online via the company's 'My Verizon' site; therefore, we advise you to set up an account in advance if you are not already registered...

AT&T Offering Customers Unlimited Data to Get Back at Verizon?

Reports are surfacing that AT&T is quietly offering certain customers the opportunity to switch back to unlimited data. This comes right on the heels of the revelation that Verizon will be offering $30 unlimited data for a limited time to early iPhone 4 adopters.

If you can remember, it was back in June of 2010 when AT&T eliminated its unlimited data plans in favor of a tiered data package, and needless to say there was quite an outrage over the change.
