Twitter Promises to Not Change TweetDeck

Twitter just announced on its blog that it has officially acquired TweetDeck. On top of that, Twitter has promised to maintain the TweetDeck that "users know and love."

When it was revealed that Twitter was purchasing TweetDeck for nearly $50 million, TweetDeck users got a little nervous. Would a Twitter buyout mean that the TweetDeck faithful would be left out in the cold? Twitter has assured that it has no plans to fundamentally change the popular third party client that so many people rely on...

Opera Mini for iOS Gets Major Update, Faster Browsing Included

It'll be interesting to see if Apple gives Safari a facelift in the upcoming iOS 5 update. It's already rumored that several areas like voice control will receive an overhaul, but will the tiny browser see any improvements?

If you're not currently happy with Apple's default browser, there are several alternatives in the App Store. iCab and Atomic are awesome choices, but what about Opera Mini? Even if you didn't like the browser before, you might want to check out the latest update...

Square Introduces “Card Case” to Revolutionize Mobile Payments

We've told you about the revolutionary mobile payment system for iOS, called Square. As a creation by  Twitter's co-founder, Jack Dorsey, Square aimed at bringing mobile payments to the iPhone and iPad in a way that's never been done before.

As was unveiled yesterday, Square has introduced the next step in its path towards dominance of the mobile payment industry, called the Card Case. Instead of paying with a physical credit card or cash, why not just use an app and your own name?

Chronic Dev Team Gives an Update on iPad 2 Jailbreak and GreenPois0n Support for iOS 4.3.X

Last week, iOS hacker and member of the Chronic Dev Team p0sixninja was quoted saying it was just a matter of weeks until the team releases an update to their jailbreak tool GreenPois0n, which was supposedly going to work with the iPad 2 as well.

It seems that p0sixninja spoke a little too fast, and got every jailbreaker out there a little too excited. In order to make things clearer, the team posted an update on their blog today. This update covers the iPad 2 jailbreak and support for iOS 4.3.x in GreenPois0n...

Action Menu Updated to Support iOS 4.3

If you've been holding off updating to iOS 4.3.x because of the lack of support for some of your favorite jailbreak tweaks and apps, I can understand your position. While I love iOS updates that include tons of bug fixes and new features, I usually don't upgrade right away due to compatibly issues with jailbreak apps and tweaks I couldn't live without on my iPhone.

With that said, if one of those jailbreak tweaks include Action Menu by Ryan Petrich, you'll be glad to know it's finally been updated for iOS 4.3+ support...

What's the Status of the iPad 2 Jailbreak?

The iPad 2 is one of the most successful Apple products to date in a number of categories. One of those categories is, it has yet to be jailbroken. Now I say that lightly, because I realize that a handful of intelligent folks have hacked their iPad 2s. But nearly 3 months after its release, there is still not a widely available jailbreak solution for Apple's new tablet.

Recently we reported that infamous iDevice hackers p0sixninja and GeoHot were in a friendly competition to see who could break into the iPad 2 first. That unfortunately does not seem to be the case. In a recent online Q & A session with p0sixninja, the hacker confirmed that GeoHot has since declined the iPad 2 challenge due to media attention. I guess you can get a little paranoid after being taken to court by the likes of Sony.

So what now? Comex is out, GeoHot's not in, are we ever going to see a jailbreak for the iPad 2? A ray of sunshine cast down on the Twitter world yesterday, as p0sixninja once again speculated on the status of the new iPad jailbreak. A Twitter follower asked the Chronic Dev team member if the iPad 2 jailbreak would be weeks, months, or years. Apparently the answer is just weeks!

Joshua Hill (p0sixninja) seems to be the most vocal on the status of the iPad 2 jailbreak. After a known exploit was patched by Apple last month, the Dev Team and other hackers have been very quiet about their progress. It'll be interesting to see if Hill and the rest of the Chronic Dev team can deliver an iPad 2 jailbreak within weeks as predicted. I know of many iPad 2 owners that would greatly appreciate it. We'll keep you updated.

Any questions?

PhotoAlbums+ Gets an Update, Still the Best Photo Management App for iPhone

I don't know about your guys, but I'm kinda ticked we can't create photo albums on the fly on our iPhone or iPad. Thankfully, the jailbreak community is once again taking over where Apple slacked. We've already covered PhotoAlbums+, a jailbreak app that allows you to create albums and move pictures from/to these albums, directly from your iPhone, without the need of iTunes.

PhotoAlbums+ just got an update, and while it doesn't bring anything really new to the table, I felt like talking about this app again because it deserves publicity...

Tweetbot Receives 1.1 Update, Landscape Support in Tow

Ever since Alex introduced me to Tweetbot, I've been smitten. While some folks claim the interface is too busy, I appreciate the sharp graphics and quick animations. However, the original version was missing some key features, like support for landscape mode.

This made tweeting kind of a pain because I tend to type much faster with my iPhone turned sideways. Luckily there was a jailbreak tweak available to force the app sideways. Now for all of you stock iPhone users, Tapbots has released  Tweetbot 1.1 to let you join in on the landscape party...

Interview with Peter Hajas- MobileNotifer Beta4 and Widge

Peter Hajas is the genius behind a different take on the iOS push notification system called MobileNotifer. He's a prominent figure in the jailbreak community with a wonderful, open-source philosophy on software.

In a recent interview with Joshua Tucker of ModMyi, Peter sat down and talked about some interesting developments. His amazing iOS notification replacement for jailbreakers, MobileNotifer, is entering its fourth beta with some awesome new features. Peter also talked about a very interesting new jailbreak project called "Widge."

Check out the full, 15 minute interview after the break...

Twitter Launches New Mobile Web App, Looks Like the Official iPhone App

Twitter has begun to roll out an updated and majorly revamped version of their mobile web app. The new interface looks a whole lot like Twitter's official iPhone app, and the web app is contained entirely in Mobile Safari.

HTML5 is deeply integrated into Twitter's new web app, and the redesign looks really nice. Twitter's main goal with this update is to improve its web experience on mobile platforms...

Microsoft Will Continue to Support Skype on iOS

You can rest easy. Microsoft's CEO, Steve Ballmer, has confirmed that the company will "continue to invest in Skype on non-Microsoft client platforms."

As we previously reported, Microsoft has acquired Skype to the tune of $8.5 billion. The technology juggernaut plans on implementing Skype's VoIP technology into its Windows Phone 7 platform, but the company also states that it will continue to support Skype on non-Windows platforms.

MyGreatFest Confirms P0sixninja as Speaker for London Event, MuscleNerd for USA

Things are shaping up very nicely for the world's first jailbreak and iDevice convention. MyGreatFest will hold its first gathering this September in London, U.K. for fellow geeks and the iDevice community.

Among other prominent speakers, like Jay "saurik" Freeman himself, the MyGrestFest team has managed to snag famed hacker and Chronic Dev Team member, Joshua Hill (P0sixninja) as a speaker for the upcoming event. The jailbreak and unlock wizard, MusceNerd, has also been confirmed as the keynote speaker for MyGreatFest's event next year in the United States.
