Velox updated with new activation method and several bug fixes

Velox, arguably one of this year's most highly anticipated jailbreak tweaks, finally landed in Cydia this weekend after what seemed like several weeks of waiting. Initial feedback for the tweak has been mostly praise, but there have been some scattered reports of bugs.

Of course, bugs are typical in first-version software releases, as are the bug-squashing '0.1' updates that follow them. And today, Velox has received its 0.1 update that includes a new, double-tap activation method, and a handful of other improvements and bug fixes...

Path updated with enhanced privacy features and more

Attention Path users: the personal social network has just released a new version of its iOS app. The update brings the application to version 3.0.4, and includes enhanced privacy features, as well as other improvements and bug fixes.

The fact that it includes new privacy tools is particularly interesting, given that Path spent most of this past week dealing with privacy concerns after a user accused its app of 'erroneously' sending text messages to all of his contacts...

Apple releases iOS 6.1.4 for iPhone 5 with updated audio profile

Apple has, unexpectedly, released a new version of iOS this morning. The update brings the firmware to 6.1.4, and doesn't appear to include any new features or changes other than an 'updated audio profile.'

The new software is currently only available via OTA (over the air update), but it should be posted online shortly. As usual, jailbreakers will want to stay away from the update, as it will not work with evasi0n...

TinyUmbrella updated with support for iOS 6.1.4

Earlier today, Apple unexpectedly released a new version of iOS. The update brought the firmware to version 6.1.4, and only included a single item in its change log: an updated audio profile for the iPhone 5.

Folks who are currently jailbroken on iOS 6.1.2 or lower should obviously stay away from the evasi0n-killing software. But for those of you who already updated, there's a new version of TinyUmbrella out...

Amazon updates Kindle app with new accessibility features

Amazon today announced a nice little update for its Kindle iOS app, bringing the title to version 3.7. The update includes a handful of bug fixes and improvements, but the biggest change has to be the new VoiceOver support.

Tapping iOS' Accessibility features, Amazon has made it much easier for blind and visually impaired users to navigate their way around the Kindle app through the use of VoiceOver. More details and full change log after the fold...

Jawbone opens API for its UP fitness bracelet to third party devs

Jawbone, a company well-known for its bluetooth headsets and speakers, ventured into the world of fitness accessories last year with its UP bracelet. Well I should say re-entered. That was its second attempt with the UP, after hitting early manufacturing issues.

Today, reviews of the UP still seem to be a mixed bag, but Jawbone is looking to sweeten the deal with third party app support. Earlier today, the company unveiled its new 'UP Platform,' which it says will allow developers to integrate UP data into their apps...

QuickReply for Facebook Messenger updated for iOS 6

Good news today for jailbreakers who frequently use Facebook's Messenger application. Moeseth has updated his popular QuickReply tweak for the social network's messaging service to be compatible with devices running iOS 6+.

Much like its older sibling, TwitkaFly, QuickReply for Messenger allows users to quickly reply to Facebook messages by tapping on incoming notifications from either the Home screen, Lock screen, or within open applications...

BiteSMS updated with big performance improvements and bug fixes

Good news for folks who like the features of biteSMS, but don't use it due to performance and reliability issues. The team behind the popular Messages app replacement claims many known bugs were fixed in an update today.

BiteSMS version 7.5 was released this morning with a number of performance-related improvements and bug fixes. In fact, the developers say it's now 100% the same speed as the Messages app. Full change log after the fold...

Personal social network Path passes 10 million users

Last month, I downloaded Path for iOS for the third time to try out the app's new 3.0 update, and I thought to myself "this app is so beautiful." It's just too bad that no one I know uses the decidedly more intimate social network.

But just because no one I know uses it, doesn't mean that no one is using it. Dave Morin, the company's founder and CEO, announced earlier today that Path has just crossed a major milestone in its short life: 10 million users...

TinyUmbrella updated with support for iOS 6.1.3

Good news jailbreakers. Notcom has finally updated his popular SHSH blob-saver to support iOS 6.1.3. Apple seeded the update to users more than a month ago with a fix for the latest Lock screen security bug and Maps improvements.

Unfortunately, 6.1.3 also killed several of the exploits that the evad3rs were using in evasi0n, effectively killing the iOS 6 jailbreak. But for those of you who upgraded to it, whether by accident or choice, here's TinyUmbrella version 6.13.00...

Discovery Channel and TLC apps gain new ‘Plus’ second-screen experience

This is pretty cool. Discovery Channel Communications has released updates today for both the Discovery Channel and TLC iOS apps with a new interactive second-screen experience called 'Plus,' that promises to make TV watching more enjoyable.

For those unfamiliar with second-screen apps, they essentially allow users to sync their smartphones or tablets with TV shows/movies to serve up additional—meaning more than what's being offered through the show itself—content to them in real-time...

ZodTTD seeds public beta of new gpSPhone GBA emulator

Fans of legacy console video game systems rejoice! The well-known iOS emulator developer ZodTTD is back in action. Zod has been absent from the jailbreak scene for a while, but there's been plenty of talk of him coming back to update N64iOS and other popular ports.

That speculation materialized last night, as the developer announced that he had created a Cydia repo where he would be posting public betas of his updated emulators. And he's already seeded his first beta: gpSPhone v8.0.0, an emulator for Game Boy Advance ROMS...
