Scoble: Apple is Building Twitter in Deeply into iOS 5

Following our report a few days ago that Twitter was going to be integrated into iOS 5, tech evangelist Robert Scoble is adding that not only Twitter will be integrated into iOS 5, but it will actually be built deeply into Apple's latest iOS.

At this point we can only speculate what this deep integration is going to bring to iOS users: widgets, BBM-like messaging system, photo sharing? Your guess is as good as mine...

Twitter Integration Coming to iOS 5

With WWDC and iOS 5 right around the corner, it appears that Apple will be focusing more on social integration. We've heard rumors of a 'MediaStream' service from Apple that would allow you to view and share photos with your friends, and now it appears that Twitter will be integrated in iOS 5.

Instead of opening your favorite Twitter client to upload and share a photo, you could send a photo to Twitter directly from the iPhone's Camera app...

Browse the Photos in Your Twitter Timeline with Photofon

From the creators of the popular Echofon Twitter client for Mac OS X and iOS comes Photofon – a new application for the iPhone which focuses its efforts on photography, and provides you with effortless access to all of the photos posted in your Twitter timeline.

Photofon isn't just another Twitter client for your iPhone, but instead an application for those who would rather look at pictures than read a long list of lifeless text...

Twitter Promises to Not Change TweetDeck

Twitter just announced on its blog that it has officially acquired TweetDeck. On top of that, Twitter has promised to maintain the TweetDeck that "users know and love."

When it was revealed that Twitter was purchasing TweetDeck for nearly $50 million, TweetDeck users got a little nervous. Would a Twitter buyout mean that the TweetDeck faithful would be left out in the cold? Twitter has assured that it has no plans to fundamentally change the popular third party client that so many people rely on...

140plus Lets Twitter Users Really Talk it Out

Another Twitter-related jailbreak tweak has hit the underground app store known as Cydia. With over 200 million folks using the social networking service, it's a fairly popular target for developers.

From Moe Seth, the developer who brought you Photector, comes 140plus. This utility will allow users to continue tweeting, even when that pesky 140 character limit rears its head...

Tweetbot Receives 1.1 Update, Landscape Support in Tow

Ever since Alex introduced me to Tweetbot, I've been smitten. While some folks claim the interface is too busy, I appreciate the sharp graphics and quick animations. However, the original version was missing some key features, like support for landscape mode.

This made tweeting kind of a pain because I tend to type much faster with my iPhone turned sideways. Luckily there was a jailbreak tweak available to force the app sideways. Now for all of you stock iPhone users, Tapbots has released  Tweetbot 1.1 to let you join in on the landscape party...

Twitter Launches New Mobile Web App, Looks Like the Official iPhone App

Twitter has begun to roll out an updated and majorly revamped version of their mobile web app. The new interface looks a whole lot like Twitter's official iPhone app, and the web app is contained entirely in Mobile Safari.

HTML5 is deeply integrated into Twitter's new web app, and the redesign looks really nice. Twitter's main goal with this update is to improve its web experience on mobile platforms...

My Favorite Twitter App for iPhone (No, It’s Not TweetBot)

It seems the landscape of Twitter apps has changed quite a bit since I published this post about the best Twitter apps for iPhone, a year and a half ago. Tweetie 2 is now Twitter for iPhone, and it looks like TweetDeck is officially joining the Twitter family as well.

A few weeks ago a new Twitter app was released with much noise around it: TweetBot. It was so popular that I decided to give it a try, thinking it might even replace my current favorite Twitter app. It didn't. TweetBot is too much for me. It's too busy and overdesigned.

After spending a week forcing myself to use TweetBot, I went back to my good ol' favorite: SimplyTweet...

Tweetbot Goes Under the Knife With Two Recent Jailbreak Tweaks

It's no secret that we at iDB love us some Tweetbot. In fact, I think Alex gave it its most glowing review to date.

Despite the positive response from us and the public in general, the app does have some opportunities for improvement in a few basic areas.

The first noticeably lacking option is landscape mode. That's right, there's no built in landscape mode to speak of just yet.

Secondly, the ability to tweet out messages longer than the stock 140 characters is nowhere to be found as well.

For those of you who love Tweetbot, but are at odds with these glaring omissions, jailbreak developer Filippo Bigarella has provided two worthwhile solutions...

Twitter Buys Tweetdeck for $40-$50 Million

Twitter has acquired the popular Tweetdeck platform for a rumored buyout of $40-$50 million. This move is surprising considered that Tweetdeck very recently updated its iPhone app with a whole new design and set of features.

Tweetdeck has been a staple, cross-platform Twitter client for years. Twitter's buyout seems to be a reaction to UberMedia's original proposal to buy Tweetdeck.

What does this mean for the Twitter/Tweetdeck apps? That's the question on everyone's mind.

White iPhone 4 Teardown

In an interview with Steve Jobs and Phil Schiller last week, the 2 executives commented on how difficult it was to make the white iPhone 4. So how did Apple finally get things right?

It was certainly inevitable that someone was going to open Apple's white iPhone and look inside. After a 10 month delay, due to several design and manufacturing problems, who wouldn't want to take a glimpse of what's going on inside this thing?

Phil Schiller on the White iPhone: “Don’t Believe All the Junk”

It was recently discovered that the newly released white iPhone is slightly thicker than the original iPhone 4. To everyone that cared, it seemed interesting that Apple would release the practically same device with a different set of dimensions.

Phil Schiller, Apple's Senior Vice President of Product Marketing, has spoken out on the white/black thickness debacle. And he's saying that it's a non-issue...
