Check out an unofficial client which lets your Apple TV stream Steam games from a PC

Kevin Smith, the developer behind the MAME emulator that allows you to run classic Nintendo and Sega games, as well as play arcade games on your fourth-generation Apple TV, is back with another cool software: an unofficial client that can stream Steam games from a Windows PC to Apple's new box.

The solution takes advantage of an iOS edition of Moonlight, an open source implementation of Nvidia's GameStream technology used by its Shield console.

Moonlight technology makes it possible to stream the full collection of Steam games from a PC to the new Apple TV without needing to run on the Apple TV hardware.

Moonlight for iOS jailbreak app lets you stream Steam games to your iPhone

Although I'm far from being a hardcore gamer, and even less so of a PC gamer, my ears perked up when I heard about Moonlight compatibility on iOS on Reddit. Moonlight lets your stream games from your PC to external devices. With Moonlight for iOS, this means that you can stream your full collection of Steam games to your iPhone or iPad.

Moonlight itself is an open-source Nvidia GameStream client that lets PC owners equipped with the proper hardware to stream games to other computers and Android tablets. An official iOS client is coming, but you can try it now if you're jailbroken.

Valve takes aim at your living room with SteamOS

Games developer Valve has built a nice little business around Steam, a digital distribution platform for Mac/PC titles, basically an App Store for cross-platform desktop games. Now, for some time we've been hearing whispers of a Valve-branded gaming hardware, especially with its CEO seeing Apple more of a threat compared to the console guys.

According to Valve, hardware makers can now build devices based on SteamOS, Valve's new and free Linux-based operating system for the living room gaming PCs (Android, much?). Of course, SteamOS comes with both the Steam distribution platform built-in and a whole new interface specifically designed with big screens in mind. Should Apple be worried?
