How to play a Flappy Bird clone on the Pebble Smartwatch

Flappy Bird continues to be all the rage even after it was removed from the App Store. In fact, it's so popular that a Flappy Bird clone named Tiny Bird was created for the diminutive Pebble Smartwatch. The gameplay is much the same, although it is significantly less forgiving than the game that inspired it (if you can believe that).

Inside I'll show you how to get Tiny Bird on your Pebble watch. And yes, I even have video of my embarrassing hands-on gameplay.

Pebble launches smartwatch app store with over 1,000 apps and watch faces

As promised back in December, Pebble launched its dedicated app store today. The store, which can be accessed via the official Pebble iOS app, features over 1000 apps and watch faces that can be installed on the company's line of smartwatches.

Like other app stores, the Pebble Shop pulls together all third-party apps developed for the Pebble and organizes them into categories like Fitness, Notifications and Games. This makes it easier to browse through existing apps and discover new ones...

How to invoke Siri from the Pebble Smartwatch

Great news for all of your Pebble Smartwatch owners: PebbleSiri and the Smartwatch+ jailbreak app has been updated to work with iOS 7. This means that you can now invoke Siri from your Pebble Smartwatch without touching your iPhone.

iPhone plugged into an outlet across the room, but want to set an alarm? No problem, just press the Siri button on your Pebble Smartwatch to invoke Siri and start dictating your commands. PebbleSiri is an absolute must have jailbreak tweak for Pebble Smartwatch owners, because it lessens the friction between the end user and Siri.

Pebble Profiles: suppress Pebble notifications while your iPhone is unlocked

If you're a Pebble Smartwatch wearer, then you are probably already quite familiar with the device's idiosyncrasies. As I stated in my review of the device, I like my Pebble, but it's definitely got a few opportunities for improvement.

One of the more glaring issues is solved by a recently released jailbreak tweak dubbed Pebble Profiles. This tweak suppresses notifications on the Pebble when your iPhone is unlocked. The end result is a great reduction of duplicate, and hence redundant, notifications. Take a look at our video inside for a demonstration of how it works.

CES 2014: Pebble announces next-generation ‘Pebble Steel’ smartwatch

For weeks, Pebble has been hinting that it had a big announcement coming up at CES, and today it finally let the cat out of the bag. The smartwatch-maker unveiled its next generation wearable, the Pebble Steel, with an all-new band and face design.

The Steel features a stainless steel body with a leather or steel band—a huge upgrade from the plastic used in the previous model— and a face covered with Gorilla Glass. The new Pebble is lighter, and has a thinner profile thanks to slimmer bezels...

Pebble Appstore is slated to launch early 2014

The Pebble smartwatch project has certainly hit the ground running since receiving funding via the crowd funding platform Kickstarter.

The regularly updated software has been improving the smartwatch's functionality as the company looks to secure its position before heavy-weights like Apple enter the category with their own products.

Aiming to secure its footing in the still nascent but fast-growing wearable technology industry, Pebble on Wednesday announced that an official Pebble appstore is coming early next year to give customers the official venue to download and install third-party smartwatch apps to their Pebble.

The store will launch with watchfaces and six app categories for Daily, Remotes, Sports & Fitness, Notifications, Tools & Utilities and Games. Like Apple, Pebble will feature a selection of the best/new apps on a per-category basis...

Pebble firmware update brings Do Not Disturb mode, faster notifications and more

The Pebble Smartwatch has gotten smarter than ever as the company pushed a new version 1.4 firmware which enhances notifications while bringing a new Do Not Disturb mode along with other new features, improvements and fixes.

Like on your iPhone, Pebble's new Do Not Disturb mode lets you specify a time frame during which notifications won't be displayed. You can also specify what notifications are displayed, create a new Snooze Alarm, create multiple alarms, toggle alarms on and off, edit existing alarms and enjoy improved iOS performance...

Pebble Cards brings always visible customizable cards to the Pebble Smartwatch

Information you care about, right on your wrist. That's how developer Keanu Lee presents Pebble Cards—a new app for the Pebble 2.0 that places customizable cards on your Pebble Smartwatch. After finally getting my hands on the Pebble 2.0 app and firmware, I was able to put the awesome looking Pebble Cards through its paces.

Pebble Cards is an app that provides you with short little bursts of information on cards. Multiple customizable cards can make up a deck that can be scrolled through, updated, or expanded to expose more details about the information pertaining to a particular card.

If you're a Pebble Smartwatch owner, then Pebble Cards should definitely pique your interest. Have a look inside as I show off the Pebble Cards app in our hands-on video walkthrough.

Pebble Smartwatch: some thoughts on why the smart watch is here to stay

Believe it or not, but Monday marked my first hands-on experience with the Pebble Smartwatch. I’ve striven to avoid the product all of these months, because I figured that Apple would eventually get around to making a “real” smart watch.

Apple still might do that, but its time table hasn’t aligned with the expectations of the tech blogging industry, mine included. Apple never said that it was working on a wearable, so it’s really our fault for creating such expectations.

In the meantime, the Pebble Smartwatch and its SDK have had plenty of time to marinate and mature. The latest update to Pebble’s software brings with it systemwide notifications, and there’s no hacking or jailbreaking needed to do that. In the eyes of many, that’s enough to make the Pebble Smartwatch worthy of serious consideration, and I tend to agree.

Pebble update goes live with full iOS 7 Notifications support

Pebble has had basic support for iOS Notifications in place from day one. The implementation, however, left a lot to be desired as the Pebble smarwatch could only relay the most basic of iOS notifications through a companion iPhone app.

Eagle-eyed readers will remember that the company last week confirmed an upcoming update would enable additional iOS 7 Notification Center alerts.

And just like clockwork, a new version of Pebble's iOS app has gone live now in the App Store, introducing full integration with the iOS 7 Notification Center. This allows Pebble owners to receive any alerts enabled in Notification Center on an iOS 7 device and have them displayed on their $150 smartwatch.

Yes, this includes alerts from third-party apps such as Twitter, Facebook, WhatsApp and lots more. Go past the fold for more...

Pebble announces support for all iOS 7 notifications, new SDK

Big news today for current and potential Pebble users. The company announced a major update to its smartwatch platform that includes support for all notifications in iOS 7, as well as a new SDK and new APIs for developers.

Previously, the Pebble was very limited on the types of push notifications you could receive from your iPhone. But now, thanks to updates made in iOS 7, it will be able to receive alerts from Facebook, Google Maps—you name it...

AT&T announces Pebble partnership, will start selling smartwatch Friday

Despite all of its missteps following its record-breaking Kickstarter run, Pebble has done quite well for itself post-crowd-funding. In addition to landing a retail deal with Best Buy, it announced in July that it had surpassed 275k pre-orders.

And now it's taking things to a whole new level. AT&T, currently the United States' second largest wireless carrier, announced today that it will begin offering the popular smartwatch online and in select brick-and-mortar stores this week...
