Sprint Drops Dime About iPhone 5 in Litigation Documentation

Some interesting information came out of federal court regarding Sprint's ongoing opposition of AT&T's T-Mobile acquisition.

The interestingly worded portion of the court filing states that “Sprint has had to compete without access to the iPhone for nearly five years.” Now of course, we and others could be reaching here, but the wording is most definitely eyebrow raising.

What particularly makes me curious, is the use of the word had, which of course, indicates past tense. It's widely expected that Sprint will finally even the playing field this fall when the iPhone 5 launches, and this just adds more fuel to an already smoldering fire...

Suspects in Last Year’s iPhone 4 Prototype Scandal Plead Not Guilty

Two men charged with misdemeanor theft charges on the leaked iPhone 4 prototype scandal from last year have pled not guilty in court. If you recall, an iPhone 4 prototype was found in a bar in Redwood City, California and then sold to gadget blog Gizmodo for $5,000.

Gizmodo was cleared of charges last month, but two suspects that allegedly found the prototype are now being charged...

U.S. Government Files to Block AT&T/T-Mobile Merger

Much like Google's buyout of Motorola Mobility we told you about a few weeks ago, I don't think anyone saw the AT&T/T-Mobile deal coming. The nation's second largest carrier unveiled it's plans earlier this year to acquire the operator for $39 Billion.

The acquisition would leave only three major wireless companies in the US, angering both customers and other carriers along the way. But with the industry's long history of buyouts and mergers, I think most folks just accepted that it was going to happen, until now...

The Apple-Samsung lawsuit has been grabbing headlines left and right over the last few months. The action has especially heated up over the past few days, as Samsung tried to prove to a Dutch court that it's not copying Apple's products.

But even with their Kubrick evidence, the judge found the Korean company to be in violation of Apple's patents. The ruling bans Samsung from selling several devices, including the Galaxy S and Galaxy S II, in the European Union...

The latest twist in the copycat lawsuit takes the entertainment to a whole new level. Since Apple claims that Samsung copied its tablet design with the Galaxy Tab 10.1, Samsung is claiming Apple copied science fiction...

Should Apple Sue Gawker Media for Gizmodo Story?

A few weeks ago, we told you that the infamous iPhone 4 prototype case was coming to an end. The two guys that took part in snagging the lost device, and eventually sold it to Gizmodo, are getting their comeuppance.

The two men are facing non-felony charges, with an arraignment set for the end of the week. Although Gizmodo, and their parent company Gawker Media, aren't involved in the criminal case, the firm has a lot riding on it...

Shining Some Light on Apple’s Copycat Claims With Samsung

Most of you are aware of the litigation between Apple and Samsung. The ongoing court battle between the two handset makers started with Apple accusing Samsung of copying its products.

The 4-month long debate of whether or not Samsung copied Apple in the production of its devices has spilled into the streets. And, for the folks who haven't picked a side yet, the following graphic may help you see who's really to blame...

Who’s Suing Who in the Mobile Industry [Infographic]

Here at iDB we've covered a lot of lawsuits involving Apple and their hit line of iDevices. Most, if not all, of the litigation has involved patents. You know, those little pieces of paper that tie an invention to its inventors.

In fact, these patents have practically turned into weapons in the warzone that is now the mobile industry. It seems like everyone is suing everyone — it's hard to keep up. Luckily, the folks over at Reuters have made a chart to help us out...

HTC Sues Apple Over Basically Everything

When will the patent cold war ever end? That's the question we keep asking ourselves. In the latest patent battle, HTC is taking on Apple for infringing on.. well, basically everything.

HTC wants an injunction for blocking sales of Apple devices, and the Android-friendly handset maker is also suing for damages. Looks like someone is trying to tap into Apple's Fort Knox...

Court Lifts Ban on Samsung Galaxy Tab Sales in Europe Due to Falsified Evidence in Apple’s Case

Apple recently won a preliminary injunction case in Europe banning the sales of Samsung's Galaxy Tab 10.1. Based on a case of infringed intellectual property, Apple was able to convince the court that Samsung's tablet copied the design of the iPad too closely, and Apple requested a block of all sales in the European Union until the case could be further investigated.

It looks like Apple doesn't mind playing a little dirty. A report has surfaced that Apple could have allegedly tampered with and falsified evidence against the Samsung Galaxy Tab, and the ban on the tablet's sales has been lifted in Europe while the court investigates.

Apple Now Blocking Samsung Galaxy Tab Sales in Europe

For those of you who missed it, Samsung agreed to delay the launch of its Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Australia last week. The move was in direct response to an injunction filed by Apple, who's claiming that Samsung has infringed on some of their patents.

The legal feud has been going on for several months, but it has started to get interesting over the last few weeks. Not only has Apple delayed the Galaxy's Tab launch down under, reports are coming in that they've blocked the tablet in Europe, too...
