The ongoing litigation between Lodsys and a large group of iOS developers just took another turn yesterday. If you've been living under a rock for the past 90 days, then you should be informed that Lodsys is suing a handful of iOS app developers for infringing on their recently purchased patents.

About 2 months ago, Apple filed a motion to intervene as a defendant against the patent licensing firm, but was quickly met with an objection from Lodsys' lawyers. After a few weeks of silence, Apple finally filed a response yesterday — and it's good...

South Korea Fines Apple $2,855 Over Locationgate

It seems Locationgate just won't go away, with Apple being fined 3 million Won, or $2,855, by the country's communications regulator.

The fine relates to the infamous storage of iOS device's location in an unencrypted file on the computer they were synced to. Using this data, it was possible to plot people's movements on a map, causing mass hysteria, panic and general confusion. This file was discovered back in April, with seemingly the whole planet baying for Apple's collective blood.

Apple later released an update to its iOS software that addressed the issue, but the damage was done...

Lodsys Attacks Angry Birds and Others in More Lawsuits

The legal team over at Lodsys doesn't seem to have been phased at all by Apple's cease and desist letter, or attempt to intervene in the patent dispute. Not only is the company not backing down, they've actually upped the ante.

FOSSPatents reported yesterday that Lodsys has amended its patent complaint and modified the list of defendants. 5 new companies were added to Lodsys' infringement case, including Electronic Arts, Take-Two Interactive, Atari, Square Enix and Rovio- the makers of Angry Birds...

Another Patent Troll Pops Up, Seeks License Deals from Apple and Others

While the Lodsys saga with Apple and its developers drudges on, another company has decided to join in the patent troll party. This time, it's an Indian-based company by the name of Kootol, and this time, they're not just going after the little guys.

FOSSPatents is reporting that Kootol has distributed a press release announcing that it has sent "notices" to a long list of companies (large and small) regarding their use of Kootol's Intellectual Property. The IP in question involves social "feeds" like you'd find in Twitter or Facebook...

Korean Court Orders Apple to Pay Up Over Location Tracking Fiasco

We all remember the infamous "Apple's tracking my movements and is going to follow me around town with a camera" fiasco, don't we?

Assuming you've not been living under a rock for the last few months - and Apple's GPS data tells me you haven't - then you'll remember that Apple's iOS devices were accused of keeping tabs on users' locations and storing the information in an unencrypted file on said users' computers.

Well, as it turns out, one South Korean iPhone user has forced Apple to cough up a spot of compensation, though we aren't exactly talking mega-bucks...

Apple More than Likely to Lose Amazon Lawsuit, “App Stores” for Everyone

Most of you are probably aware of Apple's trademark lawsuit against Amazon. But if not, it's easy to catch up. The online retailer opened up a new app market earlier this year, entitled the Amazon Appstore for Android. Apple's legal team quickly filed a motion with the courts to ban the retailer from using their trademark.

Apple coined the term back in 2008 when they launched their infamous App Store, and they don't want customers confusing it with a 2nd rate offering. It looks like Apple is going to have to do better than that, as Bloomberg is reporting that the judge has stated that she will "probably" deny Apple's motion...

Court Denies Samsung a Peek at iPhone 5 and iPad 3

Apple and Samsung are currently in the middle of a heated copycat lawsuit. Apple accused Samsung of stealing the iPhone's design, and Samsung retaliated by asking to see Apple's unreleased products for comparison.

Both companies believe that their products designs are being copied, but one thing's for sure: Samsung won't be seeing any unreleased products from Apple.

Apple Files Response to Samsung’s Request to See the Next iPhone

Now that the Nokia and Apple dispute has been settled, the tech world can turn its attention back to the Samsung "copycat case." Apple filed the lawsuit back in April of this year, claiming that Samsung copied several iDevice design elements in their products.

The Cupertino company submitted another filing shortly after that, asking to see some of Samsung's upcoming products in relation to the complaint. In turn, Samsung likewise submitted a Motion to Compel, asking to see Apple's new iPad 3 and iPhone 5 models. How did Steve Jobs and company respond?

Nokia Wins Apple Patent Dispute, Apple is Now a Nokia Licensee

This particular court battle between Nokia and Apple has been a doozy. Nokia originally filed suit against the Cupertino company back in 2010, citing their use of data transmission and certain antenna technologies as patent infringement.

Earlier this year, an ITC judge ruled in favor of Apple, claiming that he saw no evidence of infringement in their products. Just days after the court's decision, Nokia launched a 2nd lawsuit against the iPhone makers which appears to have been much more successful...
