MuscleNerd Confirms Untethered Jailbreak to Ship Before Christmas

Earlier this month, iPhone hacker Comex mentioned on Twitter that an untethered jailbreak would be available before Christmas. It's been over a week now and we hadn't had any status update until MuscleNerd confirmed the release of an untethered jailbreak to be released before Christmas.

Minutes after tweeting the above info, MuscleNerd deleted this tweet, which is nowhere to be found now. So why did he do this?

My Love Letter to PkgBackup

PkgBackup is one of the more expensive jailbreak apps that you will find on the Cydia, but you'd be hard pressed to find a developer that's put as much continuous work into their app.

The backup solution has been on the receiving end of quite a few updates recently, so I thought it would be appropriate to visit some of PkgBackup's most convenient features.

One of those features is the wonderful DropBox integration, which is so good it inspired me to write this love letter...

SBSwitcher Places SBSettings Toggles in Your App Switcher

The first thing I thought when I first saw SBSwitcher on Cydia is "Wow, that's pretty expensive." Indeed $2.99 is quite the hefty price for a jailbreak tweak that essentially duplicates the functionality that you've been enjoying all of this time for free.

SBSwitcher is basically SBSettings placed in your app switcher. Unfortunately, only the toggles apply here, so if you want to invoke any of the other SBSettings functionality, like say, respringing, you'll have to resort back to your old methods...

With that in mind, there has to be some redeeming factor for SBSwitcher, right? Surely, $2.99 will travel further than that, no?

Why Cydia is Called Cydia

Cydia is a household name in the jailbreak community. Anyone who has jailbroken their iDevice has most likely used Cydia. Some of us may even know that Cydia is the brainchild of Jay "saurik" Freeman, whom most consider the father of the jailbreak.

Cydia is used by millions of people, but how many know why it has such a weird name? I mean, "Cydia?" What in the world does that mean? There has even been dispute as how to say the word "Cydia." Little do most know, there is an interesting reason for the odd title behind the icon that every jailbreaker recognizes...

More Details on Cydia for Mac

We recently reported that the creator of Cydia, Jay "saurik" Freeman, is close to releasing an official version of Cydia for the Mac. We speculated on if it was really necessary, and if it is important enough to thrive on a desktop ecosystem.

This "Mac Cydia" would seem to be Freeman's direct attempt at the jailbreak, unfiltered version of the new Mac App Store and OS X Lion. Since the news of a Mac Cydia, there have been more details shared from Freeman himself about the goals and features of the OS X version of Cydia...

Apple Quietly Removed the Stealthy Jailbreak Detection in iOS 4.2.1

According to certain device management vendors, Apple, without an explanation of any kind, has dropped its own jailbreak detection API from iOS no less than six months after releasing it. The reasons behind this decision are a mystery, as Apple has declined to comment on the decision to abandon the API in the release of iOS 4.2.1.

Apple's API let MDM (Master Data Management) applications access core information about the version of iOS running on any given device. Basically, the jailbreak detection API allowed certain applications to ask an iOS system if it had been compromised. Surprisingly, in the newly released iOS 4.2.1, that API is nowhere to be seen...

Is ASLR The Antid0te For a More Secure Jailbreak?

At this years annual Pwn2Own hacking contest, where contestants are challenged to exploit specific software and computing platforms, an iPhone 3GS was successfully hacked in about 20 seconds.

Fortunately, one hacker is making plans to release a jailbreak tool -- aptly entitled Antid0te -- that makes your iPhone more secure.  Just how is this accomplished? We divulge the details inside...

iPhone 4.2.1 Untethered Jailbreak Available Soon

Today, MuscleNerd unveiled the video of an iOS 4.2 untethered jailbreak that is currently in the works. This is wonderful news for everyone who wisely held off on upgrading their iPhones to 4.2.1.

Enhance Your Typing Efficiency With 5-Row iOS Keyboard

5-Row Keyboard is a new jailbreak tweak that does just what the name describes: enables a larger, 5-row keyboard in iOS. All of the numeric keys are added to a top row of the iOS keyboard so that you don't have to constantly change the keyboard layout when typing numbers.

This tweak doesn't do much else besides what is obvious...

SBRotator Adds Landscape Mode to Your iPhone Home Screen

Most apps in iOS support both portrait and landscape mode. The iPad even supports portrait and landscape on the home screen. Apple has limited the iPhone's home screen to portrait mode only, but there is now a jailbreak tweak for adding landscape rotation to your iPhone's home screen.

SBRotator changes your home screen to match your iPhone's orientation, just like most apps will already do in iOS. If you have been dying to have this capability since you saw the iPad's rotated home screen, you should be very happy with SBRotator...

ScrollingBoard, The Ultimate Jailbreak Tweak for Your iPhone’s Dock

ScrollingBoard is a new Cydia tweak that let's you have scrolling, unlimited icons in your dock and folders, and addons in your dock (like iPod controls). What makes ScrollingBoard so interesting is that not only does it bring a few new features to your jailbroken device, but it also replicates the functions of other popular jailbreak tweaks in the process.

ScrollingBoard's main goal is to make your iOS device's dock as useful as can be. The native arrangement of icons on your home screen's pages is also available on your dock with ScrollingBoard. The addons and SBSettings integration that ScollingBoard brings to the dock also make this tweak especially worth the $1.50 price tag...
